The bible is clear, cover your hair when you pray!

Why call yourself christian when not wanting to follow what bible says?
There is no call in the Bible for woman to wear headscarf... The Bible says that God has given woman long hair as a covering so no other covering is necessary..

And that is why some sects of Christianity "require" or suggest that women never cut their hair. I don't have a problem with that, as long as the woman is doing it of her own conscience, as a sign of reverence.... but to try to make it a scriptural "law" is missing the mark, in my opinion.
If they are going to do that, then they should require men's hair to be no longer than 1/2".....
The silliness can go about as far as people will let it.... just ask the Pharisees.....

Hair & covering slight conflict and arguably sexiest compared to now days.

1 Timothy 2:9-13 9 I also want the women to dress modestly, with decency and propriety, adorning themselves, not with elaborate hairstyles or gold or pearls or expensive clothes, 10 but with good deeds, appropriate for women who profess to worship God. 11 A woman should learn in quietness and full submission. 12 I do not permit a woman to teach or to assume authority over a man; she must be quiet. 13 For Adam was formed first, then Eve.

1 C 11:5-15 - 5 And every woman who prays or prophesies with her head uncovered dishonors her head--it is just as though her head were shaved. 6 If a woman does not cover her head, she should have her hair cut off; and if it is a disgrace for a woman to have her hair cut or shaved off, she should cover her head.

13 Judge for yourselves: Is it proper for a woman to pray to God with her head uncovered?

15 but that if a woman has long hair, it is her glory? For long hair is given to her as a covering. [this appears to be more related to general - women should have long hair and men have short hair]

Genesis 24:65 65 and asked the servant, “Who is that man in the field coming to meet us?” “He is my master,” the servant answered. So she took her veil and covered herself.

Covering appears to be more related to modesty and respectful - whenever i see pictures of Mary she is always covered as women where in them days. Nothing in the bible OT or NT that women shouldn't cover up.

What does the Bible say --is the purpose of a head covering when one prays ------and in your OP you don't specify if this is for a man or woman or both ------

I ask ---can you explain what this head covering does when you pray for yourself ----for instance ---does it make God answer your prayer quicker ----is it for showing Respect for God ?????????

Why do you wear ea head covering ??????

It is fine for you to wear one, but not-so-fine to judge others for not wearing one. It is not righteousness or salvation. It is merely a symbol. Jesus left us with only two commandments...

Matthew 22:
37 Jesus said unto him, Thou shalt love the Lord thy God with all thy heart, and with all thy soul, and with all thy mind.
38 This is the first and great commandment.
39 And the second is like unto it, Thou shalt love thy neighbour as thyself.
40 On these two commandments hang all the law and the prophets.

The reference to the head covering for women is in Corinthians which is not the old testament.
duh.... the law on head covering originated in the OT, the early church was primarily Jewish and the church was moving from the old law to the new reality of faith in and relationship with Christ.
We are no longer under the law.:)

Biblical statements are best applied to yourself and your own life first, not applied to others with the expectation that they conform to your understanding, which may be flawed.

In other words, take the log out of your own eye.

Thanks KJ91 for your posting. It is my understanding that hair is a picture of the gospel in the Bible. That is why so many references in the Bible to hair have to do with prophets. Some call it a hoary mantle. They are prophesying and power is associated with that, and that is why power is the issue with hair. Samson is a good example as he loses power without hair. We read: "For I am not ashamed of the gospel of Christ: for it is the power of God unto salvation to every one that believeth " Concerning prophesy, we read: "the testimony of Jesus is the spirit of prophecy". The verse you mention about women having their head covered, in my opinion, is speaking about the gospel. All Christians are women in relation to Christ, they are Christ's bride. Therefore, the gospel provides a covering for them, since it speaks of Christ's sacrifice and resurrection to cover their sin. The man is Christ, however. We read: "Behold the man! " The man was without sin, and, therefore, a covering for no sin, which would be covering up righteousness, would be a shame. Incidentally, the verse you mention talks about hair being a covering, not about covering up hair. I am happy if you enjoy wearing a hat or scarf but I do not see that as required by the verse and verses you are speaking of.
How Jewish are you, birdie? You can teach westerners what the Bible says?

I actually do wear a headcovering. I know that people understand the passage in 1 Cor. 11 different ways, so I don't judge Christian women who don't. I think the overarching theme in that passage is submission and headship. But historically women have worn headcoverings, at least to church, and there are mentions of a woman's veil in scripture, so I think it's something that probably was practiced.

If asked why I wear a covering, I'd say as a symbol of biblical submission and for modesty.

There are 2 reasons this interpretation doesn't make sense:

1. Paul said if a woman be not covered (which in this interpretation would mean not having hair) let her be shorn or shaven. This would be a non-sensical statement if the hair is the covering.

2.Men are not supposed to pray covered. Is he supposed to shave his hair before each time he prays?

I realize it says her hair is given her for a covering. But it has to mean something different than the aforementioned covering.

The Word Christian today is very much abused and misused ------

the Name Christian was actually first used by the Gentiles to mock all Christ Followers ----Paul kept the name ---so the Word Christian was originally Meant for people who had received Jesus as their Lord and Saviour in the New Testament ----so Born Again people were known as Christians -----today anyone can call themselves a Christian ----- the word really means nothing ---and besides it is a man made term ---It was never a Name Given by God ---------

actually the Bible is clear women have long hair naturally which is their head covering

“But if a woman have long hair, it is a glory to her: for her hair is given her for a covering. But if any man seem to be contentious, we have no such custom, neither the churches of God.”
‭‭1 Corinthians‬ ‭11:15-16‬ ‭KJV‬‬

but as you see it’s not a rule that a women must keep long hair it’s a glory and covering they don’t need to wear any man made covering that’s never worked

same reason we got women pastors. feminism. many western men and women value feminism more than the bible. they see it as just cultural and nothing important, meanwhile these double talking snakes go on talking about "the word of God says"

It’s a reference to women having long hair not wearing a head scarf though is the thing

Its about hair length of men and women

“But if a woman have long hair, it is a glory to her: for her hair is given her for a covering.”
‭‭1 Corinthians‬ ‭11:15‬ ‭

Not being told they must wear a scarf but that long hair is a women’s glory and head covering given by God naturally

sits like when Adam and Eve made thier own covering and the. God made them real ones same thing head scarves v long hair goven of God the creator to every woman who’s hair naturally grows longer than mens

Obviously you have not bothered to see what is actually stated in 1 Corinthians 11. "Man made covering" exposes your lack of knowledge of this matter.

So if people are going to address this passage honestly, they must first of all discern that it is the Holy Spirit -- not Paul -- who has devoted 16 verses of Scripture to a matter of great importance to God and to the holy angels.

Why not just read what the scripture says though ? It’s pretty clear isn’t it

“Judge in yourselves: is it comely that a woman pray unto God uncovered? Doth not even nature itself teach you, that, if a man have long hair, it is a shame unto him? But if a woman have long hair, it is a glory to her: for her hair is given her for a covering. But if any man seem to be contentious, we have no such custom, neither the churches of God.”
‭‭1 Corinthians‬ ‭11:13-16‬ ‭KJV‬‬

a if I don’t bother reading context it sounds like this

“Judge in yourselves: is it comely that a woman pray unto God uncovered?”

but there’s no reason for me to not read the context of what Paul’s saying which leads to the next couple sentences

“But if a woman have long hair, it is a glory to her: for her hair is given her for a covering.”

so now I don’t need to wonder if the Bible commands women to wear a scarf and I can just realize what Paul’s talking about

“But every woman that prayeth or prophesieth with her head uncovered dishonoureth her head:

… For a man indeed ought not to cover his head, forasmuch as he is the image and glory of God: but the woman is the glory of the man. Judge in yourselves: is it comely that a woman pray unto God uncovered?

Doth not even nature itself teach you, that, if a man have long hair, it is a shame unto him? ( because he’s covering his head )

But if a woman have long hair, it is a glory to her: for her hair is given her for a covering.”( because that’s her head covering given by God )
‭‭1 Corinthians‬ ‭11:5-7, 13-15‬ ‭
