Hi guys!

Just looking to chat with other believers. I go to church and nobody says anything to me unless i say hello to them - one way relationships and not mutual. I am disheartened and kind of confused by this. Love to talk to and encourage other people of faith.

Karlon:

I appreciate that you can relate to me in this way. There is something very wrong about this situation. How can I serve people who won't even look at me or care about me? We can't even get past hello. Let us remain in prayer about this situation. I'm reminded of this scripture that tells us how to relate to one another: "John 13:35 By this all people will know that you are my disciples, if you have love for one another.”

1st, are you a born again Christian? you can always pray for people to serve them that way. but know that everyone isn't designed to be gregarious & likable. imagine if everyone was the life of the party? with me, i heard a few statements over the decades that i'm too tough & rough of a person. i'm like an old time course disciplined hard driving guy. by course, ask the Lord to mold you into a "glowing" Christian with a scintillating personality. maybe its only a prayer you need. but if you're not born again, cogitate on becoming 1. blessings to you. have to go now

Hello @ChildofGod1976, welcome to CChat! We're glad that you found us and joined in the discussions with us (and I look forward to talking with you out on the other boards too) :)

Your situation in church seems a bit odd to me. Have you talked to your pastor about it yet  (I ask because if I was facing the situation that you are, that's exactly what I do).

I'll pray that things in regard to fellowship improve for you (and for your brothers and sisters in church too, of course, as it seems like they may not understand how vital fellowship in the body of Christ truly is).

God bless you!! (1 Thessalonians 5:23-24)

~Deuteronomy
p.s. - while I (clearly) don't know all the facts about your church and the issue of fellowship there, it seems to me that you should just keep doing what you are doing (IOW, keep saying "hello", keep going out of your way to show an interest in and be kind to your fellow congregants, etc.), because that kind of behavior is usually contagious, and should, in fact, be all that it takes for things to change.

Galatians 6
9 Let us not lose heart in doing good, for in due time we will reap if we do not grow weary.
10 So then, while we have opportunity, let us do good to all people, and especially to those who are of the household of the faith.

i have tried many different churches over many different years with the same result ....some places are a bit friendlier than others but it pains me to say it but without love for one another, we are just like non-believers, only worse because we know the truth of love and still fail to reach out to others in church beyond their friends. Even Joyce Meyer just said this yesterday - the church can get cliquey and it's a sad state of affairs, according to her. She recommended the next time you/we go to church, reach out to somebody who looks like they are hurting and or simply alone and ask them to come sit with you and your group. I agree 100 percent. I picture heaven as a great place of endless love - between God and us and us for one another. When people ignore me at church, sometimes i think to myself in pity, And THESE are the people I am to spend eternity with? Doesn't look promising.

Welcome to CC, dear brother and friend. :)(y):coffee:
Your church sounds like a very sad and depressing place. I would be count it a privilege to get to know you in a two-way way. Think of us as newfound members of your family.

Be encouraged and of good cheer, my brother! We shall soon see the King... and see Him together. ;)(y)

Hello again brother, your situation is a bit unusual (in my experience anyway), so I will continue to encourage you to speak to your pastor for his counsel and help in this matter, and so that he will know (specifically) how he can be praying for you. BTW, I'm sure that your pastor would want you to talk to him about this, because an ongoing problem with fellowship within the body is no small thing/is a problem that he will, no doubt, want to address promptly (for the people involved directly, and for your church as a whole).

Have you considered joining a small group Bible Study, or perhaps participating in one of your church's ministries (like the Missions Committee) You could also volunteer as a greeter, or something along those lines, but joining a group that meets apart from your church services would be best (it seems to me anyway). Your pastor could help you with this too (y)

There is also the possibility that God is teaching you patience, which is a VERY important, but almost always difficult lesson for believers to learn .. Galatians 6:9-10 (this short passage has patience as one of its main themes, yes?), or perhaps He is teaching you to look to/trust in Him alone (before all others .. e.g. Proverbs 3:5-6; Isaiah 40:31; Lamentations 3:24). As one of my favorite verses in the Bible says,

Psalm 37 (see Matthew 6:33 too)
4 Delight yourself in the Lord, and He will give you the desires of your heart.

Psalm 37:4 is a wonderful command with a wonderful promise attached to it, yes :) As Spurgeon once said, the key to this verse (to our receiving the wonderful promise that God makes to us in it) is to begin to focus all of our attention Him/on delighting ourselves in Him, NOT on the things that we want from Him.

Perhaps you should also begin to find ways to thank the Lord for this struggle that you are facing with wonder and hope/expectation, knowing that God has promised to turn all of the things which may seem "bad" to us (His adopted children) in the moment, into something "good" instead (AMEN) .. e.g. Romans 8:28.

Praying for you! (I realize that giving advice like I just did above is FAR easier than living it out)

God bless you!!

~Deuteronomy
