Yeah, I think that was from the Poster of the video - a 70+ y/o lady? Not from Sting himself...
Not sure what his beliefs are, but suspect that he does has some respect for God... IDK?
He did do a concert/album in one of the churches in Britain... Durham Cathedral (Catholic) and also did something with/for the Vatican?
On the back cover of one of his most groundbreaking solo albums, Nothing like the Sun
of 1987, Sting stands close to a statue of Mary. The album was released a few months
after his own mother, Audrey, died. I looked it up; the webs say "Catholic."
.:D

Fields Of Gold was from Sting's fourth album, Ten Summoner's Tales; the song was inspired by the
barley fields next to
his
Elizabethan country home, Lake House in Wiltshire. Ten Summoner's Tales
peaked at two in the UK and US album charts in 1993, went triple platinum in just over a year, was
nominated for the Mercury Prize in 1993, and for the Grammy for Album of the Year in 1994. The title
is a wordplay on his surname, Sumner and "The Summoner's Tale", one of The Canterbury Tales by
Geoffrey Chaucer. "Fields of Gold" features a silhouette of Sting walking through a village containing
common features seen throughout the UK during that time, such as a red telephone box. (wiki)

Sting is also one of my favorite artists of the 90s and “Fields of Gold” was a song that was played a lot on radio and mtv back then.

I told a Sting story (<= link) a while back (I saw him in concert).

I've run out of songs of his from the nineties .:giggle:. How about some Lucinda Williams? .

2 Kool 2 Be 4-Gotten from her fifth studio album, Car Wheels on a Gravel Road, released on June 30, 1998. At the
end of 1998, Car Wheels on a Gravel Road was named one of the year's best albums in many critics' top-ten lists.

i'm not going to post any songs but i would like to know if any of you on CC think any Christian musicians, generally, are as good or better than the rock, prog rock, jazz, or metal guys. so far, every answer i received is "no". i myself, a professional drummer, haven't seen any Christian musician even half as good. and that has no intentions of being disparaging or in derision. by course, i realize in Christian music, the message in the lyrics are always most important.

I hate to do this but depends what you mean by “good”.
‘Do you mean popularity or skill in playing instruments?

For popularity, Christian music is not as popular as the mainstream music.
‘But when it comes to skill, there’s no difference. In fact, some musicians learned their trade in the church settings before venturing in to other genres.

skill, i mean. what do you mean by, 'there's no difference"? i'm not taking about where musicians learned their trade, just about skill. i hope you don't mean that Christian musicians play as skillful as the guys i mentioned. i don't know anyone who says that's true & i haven't heard any C. musician play as well as the other guys. not even semi close. now, i'm not totally saying they can't, i just never heard them play that super good.

‘I tried to learn the guitar many years ago. So that’s what I mean by skill. Skill in playing an instrument.
‘On skill, all those who play instruments are pretty much the same.
‘You’ll find a good guitar player on a church who has more or less the skill level of Joe Satriani.
You also have slash from guns and roses playing “oh when the saint go marching in” with BB King.
So skill wise there’s no difference after people learn an instrument.

Popularity wise there’s a big difference because you won’t see a Christian guitar player become as popular as Slash or Joe Satriani.

"on skill, all those who play instruments are pretty much the same"? i hope you are joking. wow!!!!!!! more or less the skill level than Sat.? goodness gracious!!!! you haven't the 1st clue what you are saying. Satriani is known as 1 of the best in the world for decades!!! i've been a pro drummer on tour with sound & light crews. i've been around pretty much in the music business. sorry to tell you like this but if you said that in front of many musicians, soundmen, engineers, producers, even lighting crews, they would kick you out immediately! in no way am i trying to be a wise guy but you are talking not in an educated way here. & so, I'm going to quit this conversation. truly, i say to you, Happy Resurrection day, & enjoy the true meaning of Easter.

I agree with you. I think with non-Christian musicians, their priorities aren't focused on God so they put more effort into their music. Whereas with Christian musicians, they're focus is on the Lord, so they don't put their all into their music quite as much, although they can still be pretty accomplished.

lots of Christian music ends up without depth & dimension, another words just "regular joe" patterned music. i'd love to hear what Deep Purple, Zeppelin or Pink Floyd could write on Christian music.

I would have loved if Rush wrote a Christian song. That song would probably be amazing.

Oh and Boston too!

i view it this way: if your focus is on the Lord, then do your best & learn your instrument better. the more you learn the more you are creative instead of learning a few chords & a bit more. plus, the better you can play your instrument the happier you are.

How about famous musicians that got saved after they got popular? I know David Pack from Ambrosia and James Ingram are saved. Maybe even Michael McDonald.

There was a song that David Pack wrote called "I Just Can't Let Go" just so that they can all get to sing together. I love that song with all my heart and soul. Anyway, James Ingram died pretty young of brain cancer and David Pack did a remix and video of the song to dedicate to James Ingram. It's so moving!

-=<David Pack - I Just Can't Let Go>=-
ft. Michael McDonald & James Ingram
(Official Music Video)

[Intro]
Oooooooh

[Verse 1]
Oh, what's the matter, baby?
Is the truth too hard to hear?
Well, I think you know I'm not the one who lied
Now, it's all behind us
And we both play out our lives
But the years don't change the way I feel inside
[Pre-Chorus]
So, I'll play the game now
Though it feels the same now
Are you missin' me?
Well now, baby, just be aware
Of how much I still care
Oh, I need your love

[Chorus]
I gave to you my heart and soul
Now I just need to let you know
You're part of me that I just can't let go, go

[Verse 2]
Well, tell me something, baby
Is there still something inside
To remind you of the way it used to be?
And how the years, they go by
Still there's something I must say
No one ever could have loved you more than me

[Pre-Chorus]
So I'm passin' time now
Wishin' you were mine now
Are you missin' me?
Well, you know it's not too late
Oh, how long must I wait?
Oh, to hear you say

[Chorus]
I gave to you my heart and soul
Now I just need to let you know
You're part of me that I just can't let go, go

[Bridge]
(And I) And I need your love
And I need your love
Everywhere I go there's a memory
(And I) If you can't decide on me (woooh)
Well, you gotta make up your mind
'Cause some day you're gonna find
You just might need me

[Instrumental Break]

[Pre-Chorus]
Well now, baby, just be aware
Of how much I still care
Oh, I need your love

[Chorus]
I gave to you my (gave) heart and soul (heart and soul)
Now I just need to let you know
You're part of me that I just can't let
Part of me that I just can't let go, go

[Outro]
Can't let go
I can't, baby (go)
Oh, no (go)
I just can't let go, just can't let go (go)
I just can't let

Aren't the best musicians classically trained?
Of all the greatest, which of them just "learned by ear?" I mean, wasn't Beethoven deaf?

Inspired by this thread , I’m leaving this here.

I always liked Linger... I thought their first LP/CD the best .:D
That Cranberries song you posted made me think of Sinéad O'Connor
.:)

Loved her Universal Mother CD!

PS~ RIP Dolores O'Riordan .

Became deaf. Slowly. Lost his love interest because of his relatively humble social status.
Contemplated suicide. Relented then produced his best works.

no, not always. stevie ray vaughn, jimmy page, john bonham, ian price robert plant & iommi are some of the world's best. they all are self taught. & there's a huge amount more that are self taught.

More young souls have been seduced and lost by means of occultic music than perhaps any other means IMO.
I was force-fed that trash when I was a kid. All that I do now is preach against it.
