Conflict With Sadducees, Marriage At The Resurrection

23 That same day the Sadducees, who say there is no resurrection, came to him with a question. 24 “Teacher,” they said, “Moses told us that if a man dies without having children, his brother must marry the widow and raise up offspring for him. 25 Now there were seven brothers among us. The first one married and died, and since he had no children, he left his wife to his brother. 26 The same thing happened to the second and third brother, right on down to the seventh. 27 Finally, the woman died. 28 Now then, at the resurrection, whose wife will she be of the seven, since all of them were married to her?”

29 Jesus replied, “You are in error because you do not know the Scriptures or the power of God. 30 At the resurrection people will neither marry nor be given in marriage; they will be like the angels in heaven. 31 But about the resurrection of the dead—have you not read what God said to you, 32 ‘I am the God of Abraham, the God of Isaac, and the God of Jacob’[a]? He is not the God of the dead but of the living.”

33 When the crowds heard this, they were astonished at his teaching.

It's the same way in today's religious circles where " Leaders" want to have preeminence. They like prestige of the people looking to them and They really don't want to understand and follow Jesus. Probably, Jesus was a hindrance to their ideas of building a kingdom on earth which included them as the rulers. They like having knowledge to try to lord over the flock, which thing Christ hates.

You have said it, that is Jesus said this would being before He was to return.

Thank you for this timely reminder of His words. God bless you to continue sharing these truths....

I didn't judge anyone. I've seen quite a bit of the Nicolaitans type teachers in the church we grew up in and the same spirit prevails in some churches today.
Revelation 2:6
But this thou hast, that thou hatest the deeds of the Nicolaitanes, which I also hate.

So hast thou also them that hold the doctrine of the Nicolaitanes, which thing I hate.

We are supposed to make righteous judgments and test those that call themselves Apostles.
Revelation 2
Unto the angel of the church of Ephesus write; These things saith he that holdeth the seven stars in his right hand, who walketh in the midst of the seven golden candlesticks; I know thy works, and thy labour, and thy patience, and how thou canst not bear them which are evil: and thou hast tried them which say they are apostles, and are not, and hast found them liars: And hast borne, and hast patience, and for my name's sake hast laboured, and hast not fainted. ..

The KJB says this: Ye do err, not knowing the Scriptures, nor the power of God.

So Jesus did not simply say that they misunderstood the Scripture. He said that they did not know the Scriptures, and what He meant was that they were WILLFULLY IGNORANT of what was in the Bible regarding the resurrection, and the power of God which would raise people from the dead. This could be of relevance today in the matter of willful ignorance regarding the Resurrection/Rapture of the saints, and the power of Christ to totally transform all the saints in "the twinkling of an eye". This could also apply to the willful ignorance of those who believe in Soul Sleep and Annihilationism, and reject the doctrine of eternal Hell (the Lake of Fire).

“And Jesus answering said unto them, Do ye not therefore err, because ye know not the scriptures, neither the power of God?”
‭‭Mark‬ ‭12:24‬ ‭KJV‬‬

That’s exactly the issue the church has today everyone has thier own conclusions that aren’t coming from what scripture actually says much of the church reflects this well

If a person knows what scripture says , they know what God said and Gods word is always the north star always true

specifically the question was “ if a woman marries and her husband dies and she remarried several times , who’s wife will she be after the resurrection in eternity ?”

a few things to note the ones asking Jesus dont even believe there is a resurrection which means they are in error and don’t understand the ot scriptures explaining there is a resurrection from death

“Then come unto him the Sadducees, which say there is no resurrection; and they asked him, saying,”
‭‭Mark‬ ‭12:18‬ ‭KJV‬‬

Thier error begins to show here with their conviction that there is no resurrection

Secondly they are asking about what Moses said in the law which has nothing to do in any way with the resurrection or salvation but they are asking a o it a law of marriage and divorce that Jesus rebuked and said would be adultery

“Master, Moses wrote unto us, If a man's brother die, and leave his wife behind him, and leave no children, that his brother should take his wife, and raise up seed unto his brother.”
‭‭Mark‬ ‭12:19‬ ‭KJV‬‬

the question goes on to explain the man died and several of his brothers each married her when the other died

arhat was the law if your brothers wife died and hadn’t had a child you were to marry her.

a they are asking Jesus to apply Moses law to eternal life and the law of Moses isn’t for eternal Life it’s for the sinful flesh of mankind to bind them from following thier sinful nature on earth

Thier error he’s talking about is tbier belief of no resurrection , they never make any false statement except for that. The rest is a philosophical question posed to tempt Jesus to say something they could use against him

He addresses thier error about the resurrection and then Eventually explains that marriage and child bearing are earthly matters and have nothing to do with the eternal kingdom of Jesus Christ. We’re brothers and sister in eternity it’s a different world

The Sadducees didn't just misunderstand the scriptures -----they really were not much interested in any of the scriptures except following the Laws of Moses so they could hold their high esteemed power positions in the Temple and continue with their lavish lifestyles ------The Sadducees willfully rejected the Scriptures that told them about the Coming Resurrection and God's Power ------

John the Baptise called them and the Pharisees Brood of Vipers ------

Matthew 22 ---AMP B ------

Here we see Jesus answers the Sadducees who should have known about the power of God and the Resurrection if they had paid attention to the Scriptures but they willfully rejected them -----

Jesus Answers the Sadducees

29 But Jesus replied to them, “You are all wrong because you know neither the Scriptures [which teach the resurrection] nor the power of God [for He is able to raise the dead].

30 For in the resurrection neither do men marry nor are women given in marriage, but they are like angels in heaven [who do not marry nor produce children].

31 But as to the resurrection of the dead—have you not read [in the Scripture] what God said to you:

32 ‘I am the God of Abraham, and the God of Isaac, and the God of Jacob’? He is not the God of the dead, but of the living.”

------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

Today many main stream Churches are just the the Sadducees -----they willfully refuse to Preach the truth and are more interested in Sugar Coating and Watering Down the Truth ignoring the vital parts of Scripture that are important to Preach on ------they are more interested in softening Scripture to keep the money flowing in then they are of Saving souls -----

Paul says it best here ----

It is noteworthy that after the resurrection of Christ many Pharisees were saved (as noted in the book of Acts). But we do not read of any Sadducees being saved. These two groups were also at variance regarding their beliefs, and it seems that the Sadducees rejected the supernatural but the Pharisees did not. The former considered themselves "the elite" and were bitter enemies of Christ and Christians.

But when Paul perceived that the one part were Sadducees, and the other Pharisees, he cried out in the council, Men and brethren, I am a Pharisee, the son of a Pharisee: of the hope and resurrection of the dead I am called in question. And when he had so said, there arose a dissension between the Pharisees and the Sadducees: and the multitude was divided. For the Sadducees say that there is no resurrection, neither angel, nor spirit: but the Pharisees confess both. And there arose a great cry: and the scribes that were of the Pharisees' part arose, and strove, saying, We find no evil in this man: but if a spirit or an angel hath spoken to him, let us not fight against God. (Acts 23:6-9)

Sadducees greeted/acknowledged someone with a greeting as recorded when Paul was on trial. "You know nothing at all"

The Sadducees were Levites...a sect/denomination of Levites that had charge of the Temple in Jerusalem. Including its libraries....which they studied.
They were supposedly the most scholarly of any of the Jewish denominations.

Jesus saying the greeting to them of their customary greeting is telling them that a greater scholar is present and is now instructing them.
It appears rude to us today...but they came with a question and Jesus was trying to teach. He wasn't rude or not extending grace to them. (Which people erroneously today think justifies their deliberately rude behavior to others)
It was a greeting that acknowledged their presence and the validity of their question...

The addition of "or the power of God" was a new one....I haven't run across it before....it might have been customary during that time period....but maybe not. Jesus was infamous for playing fast and loose with language utilization. He usually spoke in poetry (Matt 13) and ryhme.

Acts 23:8 For the Sadducees say that there is neither a resurrection,
nor angels, nor spirits, but the Pharisees acknowledge them all.

The Sadducees did not believe in the resurrection of the dead. That is why they were sad, you see.
Daniel, the Prophet, in the very last part the revelation of "reward" came out.

What had upset the Sadducees the most was the syncreticism of Mazdaizm/Zoarastrianism with Judaism. (Alexander brought it with him)
This religion brought about the belief that humans were some sort of prized pawn in a cosmic battle between "Good" and "Evil". Good guys went to eternal reward and bad guys went to Hell for eternal torment. This belief was blended with Judaism and transformed into a war between God and Satan. This sort of theology never existed before Alexander.
Pharisees were a very populist denomination....they were whomever you wanted them to be. They told you whatever you wanted to hear....from ultra legalistic to ultra liberal. (Kinda like Paul Washer to Joel Osteen)

The Sadducees weren't exactly completely accepting of Daniel or Jeremiah. Mostly because Daniel accepted and believed Jeremiah's prophecy before 100 years had passed since its issuance. (100 tests for any writing to be considered scripture and 100 years for prophecy to be accepted)

The Torah was the primary....after that everything else was less believed. It was hard to pick and choose which version of Esther was good...which stories and wisdom books were OK...then the Maccabbees and their money and influence. (Everyone named their kid Judas after them....uggghhhh.....because a lot of what they said wasn't exactly true)

What about "Tobit"? What should we do with that book?

Jesus set straight a LOT of stuff....gave us new standards. And Pilate asked the most pertinent question of all time. "What is the truth?"

Wish i knew how to get what is in my head on paper... The questions of the Sadducees, Pharisees, etc. Did not just happen then happen to get recorded . God set those encounters up, to be recorded for today. While simultaneously using the cult as a means to offer Thee Truth to that generation. Both groups and more , are all over the place by different names.
God has given us ...
Eph 4:11 And he gave some, apostles; and some, prophets; and some, evangelists; and some, pastors and teachers;
Eph 4:12 For the perfecting of the saints, for the work of the ministry, for the edifying of the body of Christ:

He also gave us His Word where we are to try the Spirits
1Jn 4:1 Beloved, believe not every spirit, but try the spirits whether they are of God: because many false prophets are gone out into the world.
Satan does not have any new tricks there is nothing new.
Ecc_1:9 The thing that hath been, it is that which shall be; and that which is done is that which shall be done: and there is no new thing under the sun.
They in trying to trap our Lord were given a strong straight lesson of Scripture and human nature.

Unfortunately, they go hand-in-hand. The Soul Sleep advocates are also the ones who promote the false doctrine of Annihilationism. That there is no eternal torment in the Lake of Fire, but that all souls simply "evaporate" (for want of a better term).

Then there are people like you who claims that sleep is a metaphor for watchful, wakeful awareness.

While calling those who believe what Scripture says "confused" .

Brothers and sisters, we do not want you to be uninformed about those who sleep in death, so that
you do not grieve like the rest of mankind, who have no hope. For since we believe that Jesus died
and rose again, we also believe that God will bring with Jesus those who have fallen asleep in Him.

Listen, I tell you a mystery: We will not all sleep, but we will all be changed- in a flash, in the twinkling
of an eye, at the last trumpet. For the trumpet will sound, the dead will be raised...

By the word of the Lord, we declare to you that we who are alive and remain until
the coming of the Lord will by no means precede those who have fallen asleep.

“Do not weep, for she is not dead but sleeping.”

At that time Your people—everyone whose name is found written in the book—will be
delivered. And many who sleep in the dust of the earth will awake, some to everlasting life,
but others to shame and everlasting contempt. Then the wise will shinelike the brightness
of the heavens, and those who lead many to righteousness will shine like the stars forever and ever.

A lot of people use the term annihilation. I would think you actually know that but like
to pretend otherwise. It's part of your shtick. Those who use the term annihilation often
promote man's inherent immortality, which is definitely not something Scripture teaches.

Immortality is put on by grace through faith in the shed righteous blood of Jesus Christ.
