I know most people will think this belongs in the family section.But I wanted to discuss how one can tell their children to live right while not doing so themselves and how your witness affects your children.The award winning singer lost her life to drugs and now it seems her daughter will do the same.She was found in the same manner her mother was,in a bathtub,unconscious.

Houston began her singing in the church.She was surrounded by a family of believers.Yet she chose to take the path of fame with led her to drugs.Not every singer goes on drugs so lets not derail the thread on that subject.Her example to her daughter was a life filled with drama and drugs.Now her daughter has followed the very same path.So my point is that when as a parent you say "do as I say,not as I do" it doesn't work.If children are brought up in a home of divorce are they not more likely to be divorced? If brought up in abuse,more likely to abuse or be abused? Do we not understand that the legacy we leave behind,the footsteps,will be what your children follow? I wonder if we do see.

My sister married a "Christian" man that was emotionally abusive to her.He did everything but hit her.When she had her first child I told her "that child cannot walk away,he didn't ask for this,you can walk away."I advised her to separate so he understood she was serious about the abuse.But she felt the kids were too young to be affected by it.Finally her husband got help for his temper and is on meds to control it.The youngest began having trouble with violent temper tantrums and the oldest has anxiety issues.The drama in your life,the sin you dont deal with directly affects your children.At least thats what I believe.So what do you think? Any opinions?
I read somewhere a while back, that prison populations. Are mostly populated by folk that grow up in single parent families.

The main problem I think parents suffer from, is thinking that they set a good example for their children. When the opposite is more often the case. It could be due to a faulty view of one's own behavior, not seeing their poor behavior for what it really is.

I don't believe that many people have an accurate perception of themselves.

Judging others we all do, judging ourselves is just too difficult.

"Bad company corrupts good morals".(1 Corinthians 15:33) And marriage is as close as company gets. My daughter's situation is not quite as dramatic - yet. The kids are too young to be independent. I've seen way too many men play at being Christian until they get the girl. Then the real man stands up. The girl chooses the man over her Christian life (which indicates that she also was not serious in the first place) and she drifts away herself.

That is a very common problem I have seen all my life. So sad, the poor girl is desperate for a relationship.

More often than not the relationship will not workout in the long run.

This is tragic.

many times its the dad that is not a believer married to the mother who is a christian - this means their children can choose to go either way and their loyalties are divided.

@kaylagrl it would appear that there are curses that get passed down from parents to children. These curses can span several generations. You can probably see it in your own family. I know I can see it in mine.

Anger. Low tolerance to drugs and susceptibility to addiction. Lack of affection. To name a few...


But there is no temptation that has taken you but that which is common to mankind.


You don't have to stay trapped in these curses. But there is only one way out.

I wonder who was responsible for raising Bobbi Kristina when both her parents were using.
Since Whitney had a fraught relationship with her mother Cissy I cant picture her taking over or Bobbys parents. ?!

I remember one doco and a family member was helping out (not sure which one it was now) And she said , weeping of Bobbi Kristina 'that little girl never stood a chance'

The curses thing is real, Whitney had several miscarriages as well. I think people tend to gloss over infidelity and adultery when it happens in families but it absolutely does have an impact on the children.

it was not the first marriage for both Cissy and John, and John (Whitneys dad) did have a child with his lover. So it cant be said that all the family were believers. However all these things CAN be forgiven and redeemed, nobody is beyond hope.

It must be said that when Whitney married Bobby Brown she did stay true to him. Even though most of us think he didnt deserve it.

He didnt stay true to her though.

Of Bobby, people said that he was her drug.
Though Whitney was using way before she met Bobby. in the 80s most anybody wanting to have a good time was on drugs, and they were freely available whether it was alcohol, marijuana or cocaine. And it was accepted culture too. Whitneys gold records were always celebrated with. a glass of expensive champagne. Getting high was normal.

Young People can often turn to crime when they cant cope with supporting a single parent as a way of getting food on the table. stealing or drug dealing is easy fast money. You have to drop out of school and hustle to pay the rent. You cant be a poor starving student for too long. its a huge pressure.

its not right. but desperate people do it. they steal.

Whitney was $20 million dollars in debt when she died apparently. $20 million dollars?! eek.

The Houston estate has since paid that debt with the sale of her records but...Whitney famously did say the record industry is all about the $$ they are not concerned with the spiritual wellbeing of their talent.

Her father did wangle a deal for her with the record label that was $100 million and then proceeded to spend it all. She had to sue her own father. He also like most managers, wanted her to work when she wasnt up to it. So he could take his cut. He owned her.

This happens all time in the music industry when talent gets signed underage...the parents control the purse strings.

sorry I mean to say her father sued her there was a big lawsuit. But is true he would spend the money she earned cos he was managing her entourage for Nippy inc and they lived the high life.

However she would blow the fortune on drugs as an escape. Also she owed taxes. I dont think anybody could influence Whitney and say dont do this as she was said to be strong minded and did what she wanted to do. Robyn also did drugs with her...everyone around her did.

when someones exposed to drugs at a young age and uses it to cope with life its very hard to get them off it.

You don't really know a person until you live with them. I don't think people change after marriage per se, you are just finding out about their real selves. There could be other reasons like change in habits, such as men associate eating out/dressing up/paying for dinners to dating, and after marriage they think the wife should cook all meals. Technically they don't have to impress the wife anymore to get sex.

young people dont have many options to earn and even when they do they will be paid minimum wage anyway

But when someone comes up with million dollars recording contract thats a huge temptation to sign it. Would you, if you were Whitney, refuse the offer?

What else could she do...she was groomed to sing. She could model, I suppose, but that wouldnt be using her vocal talent.

Once on the treadmill of the entertainment business, that doesnt leave much room or time for a higher education.

and also always being on the road and touring is not good for a young child. Shed be up all night and tired during the day. And two singers/acts married to each other is always suss but its not like Whitney and Bobby ever sang many duets together just seems like an odd combo. Never saw the disastrous 'reality' show but it was not a great example of a marriage from reports of it.

A very common problem that bands, actors, singers, entertainers in general. Seem to run into, too much money far too quickly. What could possibly go wrong?

Wealth and fame can be very toxic.

I remember someone famous saying years ago, who in Hollywood is not addicted to drugs.

Addiction is an enormous problem worldwide.

Addiction is not just about drugs.

Modern folk are eating themselves to death, just can't say no to fast food.

Its huge problem so many in church seem to suffer diabetes and gout

Gout is caused by over eating, its like a rich persons disease. Also cancer is very common too.

You know why this is?

People dont seem to cotton on to some very good advice in the Bible...this kind goes out only by FASTING and PRAYER

Some modern Bibles have eliminated the word FASTING.

Whitney would have been under pressure by her parents to sing, and sign that record deal she couldnt do without their permission.

I dont know if it was entirely her choice, also she was on the road from a young age singing back up for her mother. Her dad managed them.

One thing in one doco was the question she always asked 'can I be me?' rather than what everyone else expected of her. In some way this contributed to her self-sabotage of her voice.

If she was a bit more grounded, she would have only sung in church or just did gospel. ARista was not a CCM label. Clive Davis was Jewish, and while he was like ok what a brilliant God given voice..he didnt recognise Jesus. He poured money on her like champagne.

In I wanna Dance with Somebody he is portrayed like a saint. Giving Whitney a huge platform and opportunities. But I dont believe he was really. And he was turning a blind eye to what fame and fortune did to her.
