The model posted here has some bad reviews due to frustrating way the battery loads and how 'loose' fitting the mounting is.
Seems that the little plastic locking pin for the battery compartment is part of the frustration factor. Easy to miss it and lose it too.
But as to operation the unit is seemingly more sensitive than Kidde brand but probably not by much. Kidde and First Alert both work well.
The mounting is kind of loose but that makes it easier to remove and unless you have a lot of vibration it probably is ok. Vibration like truck or train traffic may shake it out of the mounting but a piece of tape on its side would easily resolve that.

I could accept some periodic frustration from loading batteries every few years or so if in the meantime there were no other problems. Seems like it might be a little annoying for a few minutes, but after that you can sit it and forget it for years. Not a bad trade off and perhaps the reviews might be isolated experiences. I would try it out.

When you take one down and/or put it in a drawer for later, please take the battery out, or 6 months from then when you start hearing a strange intermittent beep you just can't find........
