Amy Grant is Christian music royalty, having been recognized by The Kennedy Center Honors earlier this month (Dec. 6). Along with being nominated for 20 Grammy awards, Grant has been awarded over 20 Gospel Music Association Dove Awards over her successful career.

Grant pushed the boundaries of Christian pop music with her 1991 release of “Heart In Motion.” The album would cross the barriers of Christian music, going on to sell more than 5 million copies.

Grant’s hit singles “Baby, Baby,” “That’s What Love Is For,” and “Every Heartbeat” propelled her into the limelight of secular radio stations and into the homes of pop listeners around the world.

The Christian music queen of pop’s success opened doors for other Christian artists like Michael W. Smith, who crossed into the secular music world with his hit album “Change Your World” in 1992.

Grant’s influential platform has given her the opportunity to speak out for the LGBTQ community. In 2013, Grant did her first LGBTQ+ press interview with PrideSource.com for the promotion of her “How Mercy Looks From Here” album.

In that interview, Grant answered questions about her faith and the LGBTQ community. She shared, “I know that the religious community has not been very welcoming, but I just want to stress that the journey of faith brings us into community, but it’s really about one relationship. The journey of faith is just being willing and open to have a relationship with God. And everybody is welcome. Everybody.”

Grant told “Proud Radio” host Hunter Kelly in 2021, “Nothing about who we are or what we’ve done. That’s why to me it’s so important to set a welcome table, because I was invited to a table where someone said, ‘Don’t be afraid, you’re loved.’ Gay. Straight. It does not matter.”

It “doesn’t matter how we behave. It doesn’t matter how we’re wired,” Grant said. “We’re all our best selves when we believe to our core: ‘I’m loved.’ And then our creativity flourishes. We’re like, ‘I’m gonna arrange flowers on your table and my table.’ When we’re loved, we’re brave enough to say yes to every good impulse that comes to us.”

Wow, how arrogant does the Kennedy Center have to be to think they get to decide who is Christian royalty.

Shows we're in the last days when so called Christians start accepting blatant sin. How can things go on much longer.:(

I have noticed that for 40+ years, how much longer O Lord?
Most are as Jesus said, holding an outward form and knowing Him not.
Wasn't she Amy Carmichael before she divorced?

Well, she got parts of it right. Everyone can come to the table, everyone can be saved. But the issue becomes when we say "God accepts you as you are, you don't have to change". It's no good to bring them if we don't preach the truth and let the Lord change them. You do not care about your loved one if you are telling them it's ok to be gay. That's where the hang up comes in. Yes, as the song says, just as I am, but once we hear the truth we change, IF we hear the truth.

Amy Carmichael was actually a missionary to India in the late 1800s till she died in the 1950s.

Is it Kennedy Center or Jesse T. Jackson that is the arrogant one? Looks like the reference to "Christian music royalty" is by the writer of the article, Jesse T. Jackson.

Wow, how arrogant does the Kennedy Center have to be to think they get to decide who is Christian royalty.
I also get a huge kick out of it when worldly, antichristian types in the media and in politics try to teach us about our own beliefs by quoting the Bible to us. Jack Black did that to justify homosexuality and, I believe, same-sex marriage. They deliciously reveal their ignorance in such instances.

Yeah, the whole rainbow band thing she's wearing says more than 'we have to accept people in love'. It says homosexuality is just as acceptable as heterosexuality. And, it is not.

She was married to Gary Chapman (the Christian musician NOT the 5 love languages guy) so she would have been Amy Chapman (hough due to her career kept her maiden name Grant.

Amy Grant should never have been idolized in the first place, nor should she have allowed herself to become an idol. And now she is telling the world a lie. This is both sad and shameful. It is also another indication that the Great Apostasy is getting worse day by day.

She is a member of the Church of Christ denomination. In the south, in particular, they are non-instrumental (which seems an odd choice to me for a professional singer/musician).

Oh well, her denomination is not the problem.

Why are the Kennedy Center Honors ribbons rainbow colored?
It's Not What Some Assume.

Designed by Ivan Chermayeff (the visionary illustrator and graphic designer responsible for the logo of multinational brands like National Geographic or NBC), the rainbow-colored ribbon symbolizes the range and versatility of skills in the field of performing arts.

As Ivan told The Washington Post Sunday in 2008, he didn't intend for it to evoke the style of the rainbow flag, which was first designed by a gay activist named Gilbert Baker and debuted at the San Francisco Gay Freedom Day Parade celebration on June 25, 1978.

"That spectrum was what I had in mind in the first place, in that it's a spectrum of many skills within the performing arts," Ivan said. "Singing, dancing, and so on."

Unlike the Academy Award or the Grammy Award, the ribbon has a distinctive, eye-catching design that makes the honorees immediately stand out from the crowd.

Amy Grant to host gay wedding: Does this honor God?
Larry Tomczak: 'One's music can inspire millions; one's example can mislead multitudes'

[Author's note: I attempted to give this article to Amy prior to publishing. She declined to read it, saying, "Even if I am misrepresented; even if I am in the wrong, God knows my heart." Having reviewed the article first with five senior leaders, including Dr. Michael Brown and one of Amy's original pastors, we pray and entrust this to God.]

This would be willful blindness and willful ignorance.
