I encountered some guys saying Christians are not allowed to use Musical Instriments in Worship. I never heard of such a dumb viewpoint.
Agree its dumb. But nothing new. I first heard this notion over 30 years ago. And I doubt it was new then, either.

Ah yes, we have a few of... Ahem... That particular church organization... In my area. They always seem to be ready for an argument, even deliberately seeking arguments. Their conversation is always loaded with bait to start argum... ah, "discussions" so they can loudly state their views. As if we missed their views the first 300 times.

Three things I will point out though:

1 - I can't see where doing without musical instruments does them any actual harm, so I just avoid talking to them when I can and decline to debate when I have to talk to them.

2 - As Paul once said, if you do something believing it is wrong - even if there's nothing really wrong with it - to you it is a sin, because you are deliberately doing something you think is wrong. So not only is there no profit in arguing with them, there can be actual harm.

3 - There was a real cool older guy I used to work with. I worked with him for YEARS before I happened to find out he was part of that church. It just never had come up before. And when it did come up, he wasn't all defensive and argumentative about it. I wound up giving him a few good acappella albums I had. Just keep in mind that every human is an individual. No matter how many people from that kind of church argue with you, there are still a few who are cool dudes.

Actually a guy from one of those churches did the most amazing thing I have ever seen in my life.

I used to work with him at a factory. He was a standard product of that church, always debating, always looking for an excuse to start an argument. I would always decline to argue for the reasons stated in my previous post, and because I didn't really believe either of us had a chance of changing the other's mind about anything.

FOURTEEN YEARS later I'm out sweeping up trash in the parking lot and this guy comes up out of the blue and says, "I'd like to apologize for how I acted back then. I've been trying to find everyone I used to talk to back then and say I'm sorry I was such a jerk."

It was a good thing I was holding a broom that I could prop myself up with, or I might have fallen over. Back when he was arguing with everyone about everything, you could not have made me believe he would ever get better.

I didn't ask if he was still going to "that church" but I did notice he looked a lot happier now.

After I gave them the verse in my first post and they tried to argue their way out of it. I put up my hand like a police officer directing traffic and told them to grow up, then walked away.

Yeah they say that was only in the old testament. In the new testament there is no mention of anyone using musical instruments.

I ask them what does that mean for other things not expressly mentioned in the new testament? I could make a list...

Another good question, if you are determined to argue with them... Or if they are VERY persistent about arguing with you... Is why does the absence prove you shouldn't do it? Absence of proof is not proof of absence.

But yeah, it's better to just not argue with them.

The last several Psalms, among many others, speak of praising God with all sorts of instruments and song, loud noises and more.

I never understood how so many teachers of the Word are against such. We may even dance if the Holy Spirit moves us to do so, though I do not dance well. God is to be praised with all joy.

Titus 3:9

Good News Translation

9 But avoid stupid arguments, long lists of ancestors, quarrels, and fights about the Law. They are useless and worthless.

They did not understand that text either.

Agree, many modern things are not in the Bible. Does that mean we should not use the internet to spead his Word?
