Where others see the dark permanence of death
He knows it's the decreed moment of sleep
The Lord upholding all height, width, and depth
Is the light faintly seen from beyond the deep

The presence is better than being in the body
Until body's redemption is made complete
When the seed of renewed creation will embody
The substance of promises now become concrete

Forgotten are the night's terrors
When breathing at heavenly wind's sweet pace
Then going past veils and mirrors
Greeted by the sublime Savior face to face

Hearing heaven's calming lullabies so faintly
Through soul's pleasant rest in the dream
In the renewal of rest with the waiting saintly
On loving embrace of the one who did redeem

Body still one with its first garden's dust
While eagerly waiting for the last trumpet's call
Then revived as one made free from sin's lust
Standing up by power of the one who took our fall

Looking for the pleasure of reconstitution
In the great and joyous moment of return
Ready to live with treasure of absolution
One we gratefully received but did not earn

I tried to maintain a balance between the following four aspects of the Christian view of our future hope (as I understand it).

1. In some sense, we go to heaven or a pleasant heavenly state directly after death.
2. Yet our ultimate future hope is bodily resurrection in the future.
3. What happens before our resurrection can be described as rest and even sleep.
4. Yet it seems clear that there is conscious experience during that time.
