Seek Out Which Is More Valuable

The Cornerstone was laid by Christ. The Apostles and Prophets laid the foundation. As for everyone else, we only build on this foundation. Assuming you have the foundation taught by Jesus, Paul, Peter, etc.

We have a choice as the pastor or the churchgoer to build or accept teachings of gold and silver or straw and hay.

Both will be tested by fire in truth. Both will see salvation but the straw or hay only by barely escaping the fire.

We have the choice to accept Gold or hay. If you have the option go to where they build in gold and silver. Also, assuming you have paved the foundation by reading the Bible for yourself.

The teaching of immature or weak doctrines can easily lead to destruction as they hang on the edge, barely escaping the fire.

Do not settle for the straw, build out of gold.

"For false christs [anointed ones] and false prophets will rise and show great signs and wonders to deceive, if possible, even the elect. See, I have told you beforehand." Matthew 24:24-25

The big thing now is "present truth" or "new revelation." This is very cunning because it doesn't really deny the authority or sufficiency of scripture. What it does is proclaim that certain modern-day prophets and apostles have an "anointing" to uncover new truths in the scriptures that have been concealed for millennia. These "new truths" are especially for us so the "kingdom" can be established on earth and the Lord can return.

There is no "present truth"; only "the faith which was once for all delivered to the saints," which Jude admonishes us to contend for earnestly.

"And the things that you have heard from me among many witnesses, commit these to faithful men who will be able to teach others also." 2 Timothy 2:2

I know some one who is a poster boy for the lgbtq movement. He says he believes in Jesus.. accepts teachings about Him (in some way).

But he believed he can get revelation from God that can contradict scripture.

If he has genuinely believed in Jesus at some point I can't say he is unsaved, but this is an issue where they treat revelation from God as seperate from scripture.

The thread title made me think of this verse:

1 Thessalonians 5:21 Prove all things; hold fast that which is good.

test everything ... let go of anything that does not pass the test ...

I think Paul is trying to explain how Christians will be judged based on the doctrine(s) they believe in. As far as doctrines go, there are varying degrees of quality. Paul compared doctrine to gold, silver, precious stones, wood, hay, and straw. However, without the foundation of Jesus Christ, there would be no foundation to build on.

Now onto the most important question. When Paul said the foundation is Jesus Christ, what did he mean exactly and didn't Jesus explain something about building a tower on a solid foundation?

1 Corinthians 3:11

And as those who dabble in homosexuality:
Romans 1:27
“And likewise also the men, leaving the natural use of the woman, burned in their lust one toward another; men with men working that which is unseemly, and receiving in themselves that recompence of their error which was meet.”

I believed in Jesus at a very early age, but I wasn't saved. I had to ACCEPT Christ as MY Lord & Savior, as well as confess my sins.
Anyone who says they believe in Jesus & openly rebels from the Word has rebelled from Jesus, for He IS the Word.

What do you consider rebelling from the Word? Some folks believe in Jesus yet still try to follow every letter of the law and whoever does not do so is rebelling from the Word in their eyes. No argument for me regardless of what your answer may be. I’m just trying to gain better understanding.

Believing in Jesus in my understanding would include accepting Christ as Saviour and confessing sins. Romans 10:9-10. John 3:16.

So I do question this guys salvation, but I don't know for sure.

People can be saved and then become deceived afterwards. Get taught the wrong things.

I personally got into New Age type beliefs in my early 20s. I believe I was saved before this.. but didn't know enough about the faith at the time to discern properly.

1. Lgbtq is about as rebellious as it gets.
2. We may have some doctrinal differences, but there's no substitution for the basics. Anyone who strives to live by faith in Jesus Christ will be shown by the Holy Spirit what needs to change in their life. And if they refuse to change, they become a rebel.

No offence, wattie, but much of the known world believes in Jesus. The devils also believe & tremble.
It is a good practice to NEVER apply "believing in" to "accepting". It's confusing, & God's not the author of that.

Plus he is my cousin..so i know him well that's why I'm being hesitant in saying he is unsaved.

This is so true. I have grown sick of this heresy and influence of the NAR, Latter Rain, or radical Charismatic/pentecostal churchs (I know not all are radical). Someone posted this the other day from this community I was investigating.
