Free exercise of religion doesn't mean you can force your religion on others
American Christians.. my religion says it's wrong to do that.
Me. Okay then don't do it
American Christians... My religion also says you can do that
Me.. I am under no legal obligation to follow your religion
Merry Christmas.. STOP PERSECUTING ME!
I believe I stated this and yet... it somehow escaped you.

You mean like stoning people to death for being gay? Yeah let's not do that
You seriously need to review the history of the country and the founders... what they wrote, their thinking process, their philosophy. You will be stunned. And yet... you would remain free.

Most of the founding fathers were deist and sodomy laws would be unconstitutional for the reasons I expressed above
You don't get to force your religion on others through law.
This is america, not Saudi Arabia

So trying to help you understand something better is me persecuting you?
And just so you know, you can't force Christianity on someone. It has to be received. So that is never my intention.
But I will refrain from further discourse and apologize for offending you.

No you missed my point. Christian's in America think anything less than 100% compliance to their demands equates to them being persecuted

Well we saw them he was in the Bible literally say to kill people for being gay so if you're advocating for that I'm not going to get behind that
But I don't want the straw man you. Is that what you're arguing?

That's simply not true. That may be your perspective but that's mostly because you aren't truly understanding what they are saying.

Wrong. Most were evangelical Christians. Again, review your history. Review what they themselves said about Christianity in America and why.

This is a same-sex marriage thread, and the founders' reasons -- my reasons -- for opposing it are not just religious.

By the way... our laws against murder and against theft and against fraud are all Biblically based. Without a transcendent Higher Power establishing rules of right and wrong, morality becomes relative. When morality becomes relative, chaos ensues. When chaos ensues, you wind up in a police state.

So, to say that you don't want my religion forced down your throat would mean you object to the religious laws you don't like, and embrace the ones you do -- this is all subjective opinion, feeling about right and wrong. And, that ought not to govern any society.

Look... unless Christians embrace sin and compromise their beliefs, the pagan will alway see us as causing them problems. So much for the inclusiveness they love to tout.

That was in the ancient Jewish theocracy. The new covenant does not command Christians to kill homosexuals. Actually, it commands us to make disciples of all nations, which means giving them the message of the gospel. You don't do that by bashing their skulls in.

Do you want to live in a society where people can do stuff like rape and murder and go unpunished? Neither do i. Taadaaah.. moral conundrum song. See how I didn't need to envelope religion to arrive at this conclusion?
Also, you dodged my question

You don't want...

That's the basis for your morality. And that is my point.

Morality needs a higher standard than personal wants and desires.

Why?

Because rape is distasteful for you, but favorable to someone else.

I understand different lines of reasoning for different world views. What I don't understand is not actually understanding the other view whether you agree with it or not.

It's a false equivalency because laws are based on harm prevention. So if you injure me or still or damage my property, I can press charges.
A same sex couple getting married harms no one
Also I know I've said this 15 billion times in here but America is a constitutional republic. We're not a theocracy.
Not everyone in America is Christian and not everyone wants to see America turned into the Christian version of Saudi Arabia
Laws are based on morality. But let us run with harm prevention. Why do we have seatbelt laws? Should we tell someone in their own vehicle what to do with their seatbelt if no harm is done to others?

If you ignore that the LGBT community is harmful to others then surely you won't ignore that the lifestyle is more harmful to themselves.

But anyways, you made up that standard. Just as the Communist China made up their standard. America in their foundation placed it on God.

Like it or not that doesn't imply a theocracy. It is a fact. It is what makes us American. And like it or not God's way is the best for society and each individual. I will vote and remote this because I love my neighbor and future generations. It is much bigger than selfish desires, it is the collapse of society we are trying to prevent.

So Im sorry if that doesn't sit well with sinners or the ignorant but until Christ returns we have a country to preserve and people to turn to the true morality.

Christians have no choice but to live and premote this morality.

I don't know what question I missed.
I had said if we followed the biblical autonomy laws we would be killing people for being gay and we should not do that to which she responded with a thumbs down so my question is are you advocating for killing gay people?
After you're rape question, is this tasteful to me because I have empathy and don't need religion to have empathy

Oh boy... you are totally missing so much of what I've written. To give the above response... Ugh.

Dude, I don't hate you or anything, so please don't think that. Besides, I'm not permitted to hate you :D But, you're either willfully not hearing me or something else is blocking you from following me. I really do need to move on now. My tires are bald. Much like my head.

I'll let someone else try to tackle this is they feel it's worth their time.
