Cops aren't suppose to be fighting. Someone can grab their gun, then what? Keep your hands of the police, comply, sue them later if they are in the wrong.
This is where Jiu-Jitsu training comes in.
It teaches the officer to subdue a suspect using leverage techniques
It also teaches him to remain calm and not going to amygdala hijack because he is able to keep the suspect under control
The quicker the officer can subdue the suspect the safer it is for everyone involved, including the officer

For anyone who is interested here is a conversation between professional MMA fighter Rener Gracie and Sam Harris. The Gracie family basically invented mixed martial arts as we know it today.
Rener goes all over the country training police officers in Brazilian jiu-jitsu
This teaches the officer to subdue a commanded suspect using leverage technique even if the suspect is bigger and stronger
The problem is most police officers are poorly trained and get maybe a few hours a year of Hands-On training for take down procedures
