Do our Churches, congregations, and even we as individuals ignore or avoid certain Biblical passages/readings/teachings because they don't fit into the beliefs of our denominations or our own personal belief.

Do we avoid reading the Bible in the context in which they were written, both Old and New Testaments? Or do we pull snippets of the Gospel out of context so that we may support our own viewpoints?

Are we interested in the truth, the whole truth, God's Truth as written in the Bible. Or are many denominations and individuals only interested in their own truths?

The claim is that is the way the 3rd POTUS treated the Bible. Claim is he would cut out the passages he didn't 'like'. Supposedly, his Bible is on display somewhere.

I've experienced that in a lot of different Christian groups. But more often I've noticed scripture-twisting rather than avoidance.

I don't want to do this myself; I pray daily to know the truth. I don't have anything invested in a denomination or creed so I really don't have anything to lose if I'm shown I'm wrong about something. I just want the truth.

I suspect the problem is more one of not knowing the context, rather than avoiding the context. As for divorcing the text from its context knowingly, I suppose that does happen, but it's probably rare.
