Do not suppose that I have come to bring peace to the earth. I did not come to bring peace, but a sword. For I have come to turn
“ ‘a man against his father, a daughter against her mother, a daughter-in-law against her mother-in-law—
a man’s enemies will be the members of his own household.’ ...Matt 10:34-36

The divisions today in the world, do you see the hand of Jesus causing this? He's not talking about issues between Christians and nonChristians. Is he just setting things up for what will happen in the future. How do you pray for peace and unity, when Jesus himself says he will cause the divisions?

I believe that is exactly what He is talking about. There are those who follow after the world and those that follow after God. They are opposite directions and there is therefore division.

With regard to praying for peace and unity, simply speak what is on your heart to your Lord and Father. Even Jesus prayed that the cup of the cross and judgment be passed from Him. But remember that Jesus also prayed that God's will and not His own be done.

What bigger issues exist except between Christians and non-Christians?

The Lord Jesus was talking to Jewish people. Those Jewish people who converted to Christianity were shunned by their Jewish families.

The same divisions occur between those who convert to Christianity and their atheist friends and families.

Yes I think this is the context ... not Christians against Christians.

Although, I believe the unity described in the Bible is with each individual church striving for unity in themselves, rather than every believer.

This is achievable and admonished by God thru the likes of Paul. Eg. Ephesus, Phillipi.

Every believer unity? What gets watered down when this is strived for? Much!

All who believe Jesus Yeshua are dead to this age yet alive in Him. We cannot be of this age any more. Whenthose who do not yet believe Jesus Yeshua see our separation they do not care for us. All who come to Jesus Yeshua are one in Him.

We are in this world, age, but not of it.
