i am an agnostic, basically meaning i don't believe we can know whether there is a god or not, but for the most part i live my life like an atheist. below i will list a few questions i would like answered to better understand where you all are coming from, and feel free to ask me anything too. (this is a repost, i was told it would fit better here)
1) how did you convert to christianity or were you christian since childhood?
2) what is your opinion on the LGBT community?
3) what is your opinion on atheists?
4) have you ever questioned your faith?
5) do you believe media like harry potter or pokemon to be problematic? why or why not?
1))
How did you convert to the Christian faith?
When I was Muslim I met a Christian man who I felt comfortable asking faith related questions. He answered every question and I was sold on the Christian God being God, but didn't convert at that time because I didn't yet understand salvation (the concept made zero sense to me back then)
2 years later, out of the blue I had a dream. The angel of God came to me in my dream, say with me and explained salvation - I finally understood the concept perfectly and was saved in the dream, and I again confirmed it after waking, was filled with the Holy Spirit and then baptized. (Yes, some day I need to write my testimony).
I have never had a doubt since, to me this is Life, and I'll not give it up for anything. They can kill my body but they can't touch my soul.
2) What is your opinion of the LGBT community?
I have no issues with them, as people. I don't appreciate the constitutional right to civil unions, however, becoming a door to this whole "trans" insanity. If it weren't for that I wouldn't be bothered.
I don't think they are saved, I do think they live in sin, but that's no worse than what I was prior to being saved. In the end, it's not to me to judge them - unless and until it becomes a societal problem, such as all this trans insanity, then society must weigh in.
I do regret any support I gave for homosexual civil unions. The people I once pegged as crazy always said it would be used as a doorway to worse depravity, but I didn't believe them. I regret any support now... Those people who warned us were right.
3.) What is my opinion of atheists? Like any other group some are fine people, some probably suck. .
I just lost a dear friend to cancer who believed the Chinese version of the afterlife (something to do with joining their ancestors) I think it's an atheistic view overall.
At any rate, atheists don't bother me. Sometimes I do feel a bit sad for atheists, I've never known a day in my life I didn't believe in God, while I was on the wrong side of the fence for most of my life, I still believe in God. It's not something I've ever questioned, or felt any need to question.
In the end, we all rely upon faith whether atheist or Christian.
4.) Have I ever questioned my faith?
Since I'm an actual convert, I have to answer that with a definitive yes - however, since I've been Christian absolutely not, I've been saved near to 8 years now. (Nov. 2014 - present day)
5.) Do I believe Harry Potter etc is problematic?
No, but I like fantasy. It's kinda fun going off to a far away land. I myself enjoy shows and books like Lord of the Rings, Game of Thrones etc etc.
Harry Potter is what got my daughter into reading for enjoyment and very much improved her grades in school - and as a parent I appreciate the author for her creativity. For my son it was the Dragonlance trilogy.
I don't see fantasy as a bar to faith. It's just an enjoyable escape from the day to day sometimes, much like good Sci-fi.
Anything else you'd like to ask feel free to.
