What the Bible is to me

I remember when I first started reading the Bible as a teenager. Someone had told me the Bible is the literal words of God and I believed them. I remember looking at the Bible in awe, heart racing, eyes wide, brimming with curiosity and excitement, savoring every syllable, looking to the heavens and fully anticipating a miracle to occur at any moment. After I had completely read a book or letter, I fully anticipated some new startling revelation or spiritual gift to be bestowed upon me. I felt like I owned something more precious than silver and gold.

Nowadays I am much older and experienced. I see that everything I had expected the Bible to be has come true. The relationship with God, the revelations, and spiritual gifts all came with time as I matured and was able to receive them.

Good stuff Runningman! I know I will be saying the same thing in the future I think even if I was not a Christian the Bible would be a must read as it has everything in it.

Amen. That’s probably the most important foundation to have for the Bible. It contains the words of our Creator.

Yes, our Holy Bible is the 'immutable' Word and mind of our God! I mostly use the Scofield KJV Study Bible to learn word meanings and references shown to understand some old words, not always underststood (and sometimes mis-translated in modern language versions); but "to each his own choice" for sources, as the saying goes! We need to always compare scripture with scripture --especially in the New Testament, to see what God is saying to the Church; which is different than with Israelites of their olden religion, which turned from the Prophets (notably Isaiah's ministry to them) and clamored for the Romans to kill their Messiah. They have suffered much in persecution over the years, and a few of them have come to embrace the Lord Jesus over time --thankfully.
Our guide when we visited Israel was of the tribe of Nepthtali, but had become a true "born again" saint and was much help in our visit in this country.
Thankfully we can see in the book of Revelation that God will restore Israel one day with new leaders (per God's 'covenant' with them for care)---likely being the Prophets who were rejected and killed, and are now with the Lord.
Thankfully: being 'with the Lord' is our present assurance as true saints of God (per John 3; John 14; John 17; Romans 8; 1 Jn. 5:10-12; etc).

Thanks for the post. It and the replies put me a bit of a 'mood' which is a bit 'difficult' to explain. Perplexing, disturbing, enlightening, frustrating, and thoughtful would be some of the adjectives to describe it. Conflicted would probably sum it up, having or showing confused and mutually inconsistent feelings.

Sounds like a bit of a conflicted feeling, but this is just what my experience has been like. I know that not everyone experiences things the same way and that’s okay too.
