In Matthew 16:15 Jesus asked the famous question, "He said to them, 'But who do you say that I am?' "
So who is Jesus? Who do you say that He is?
The promised messiah who is called Christ . He is the one God promised through the law and prophets that should come for the remission of mans sin
Christ is the son of promise
“For unto us a child is born,
unto us a son is given: and the government
shall be upon his shoulder: and
his name shall be called Wonderful, Counsellor,
The mighty God, The everlasting Father, The Prince of Peace. Of
the increase of his government and peace there shall be no end, upon the throne of David, and upon his kingdom, to order it, and to establish it with judgment and with justice
from henceforth even for ever. The zeal of the LORD of hosts will perform this.”
Isaiah 9:6-7
the eternal King of promise
“
Yet have I set my king upon my holy hill of Zion. I will declare the decree: the LORD hath said unto me, Thou art my Son; this day have I begotten thee.
Ask of me, and
I shall give thee the heathen for thine inheritance, And the uttermost parts of the earth for thy possession.
Thou shalt break them with a rod of iron; Thou shalt dash them in pieces like a potter's vessel. Be wise now therefore, O ye kings:
Be instructed, ye judges of the earth. Serve the LORD with fear, And rejoice with trembling. Kiss the Son, lest he be angry, and ye perish from the way, When his wrath is kindled but a little. Blessed are all they that put their trust in him.”
Psalm 2:6-12 KJV
the son of man the king of his eternal kingdom of inheritance
“I saw in the night visions, and, behold,
one like the Son of man came with the clouds of heaven, and came to the Ancient of days, and they brought him near before him. And
there was given him dominion, and glory, and a kingdom, that all people, nations, and languages, should serve him: his dominion is an everlasting dominion, which shall not pass away, and his kingdom that which shall not be destroyed.”
Daniel 7:13-14 KJV
He is the promised suffering servant who would die as an atonement for sin
“Surely he hath borne our griefs, and carried our sorrows: yet we did esteem him stricken, smitten of God, and afflicted. But he was wounded for our transgressions, he was bruised for our iniquities: the chastisement of our peace was upon him; and with his stripes we are healed. All we like sheep have gone astray; we have turned every one to his own way; and the LORD hath laid on him the iniquity of us all.”
Isaiah 53:4-6 KJV
he is the promised high priest in melchezideks order
“The LORD said unto
my Lord, Sit thou at my right hand, until I make thine enemies thy footstool. The LORD shall send the rod of thy strength out of Zion: Rule thou in the midst of thine enemies. Thy people shall be willing in the day of thy power, In the beauties of holiness from the womb of the morning: Thou hast the dew of thy youth.
The LORD hath sworn, and will not repent, Thou art a priest for ever after the order of Melchizedek.”
Psalm 110:1-4
he is the living bread from heaven
“This is the
bread which cometh down from heaven, that a man may eat thereof, and
not die. I am the living bread which came down from heaven: if any man eat of this bread, he shall live for ever: and the bread that I will give is my flesh, which I will give for the life of the world.”
John 6:50-51
The good shepherd
“Behold,
the Lord GOD will come with strong hand, and
his arm shall rule for him: behold, his reward is with him, and his work before him.
He shall feed his flock like a shepherd: he shall gather the lambs with his arm, and carry them in his bosom, and shall gently lead those that are with young.”
Isaiah 40:10-11 KJV
“
I am the good shepherd: the good shepherd giveth his life for the sheep.
I am the good shepherd, and know my sheep, and am known of mine. As the Father knoweth me, even so know I the Father: and I lay down my life for the sheep. And other sheep I have, which are not of this fold: them also I must bring, and they shall hear my voice; and there shall be one fold, and one shepherd. My sheep hear my voice, and I know them, and they follow me: and I give unto them eternal life; and they shall never perish, neither shall any man pluck them out of my hand.”
John 10:11, 14-16, 27-28 KJV

“
He that believeth on me, as the scripture hath said, out of his belly shall flow rivers of living water.”
John 7:38
he is the lord our God
“And Thomas answered and said unto him,
My Lord and my God. Jesus saith unto him, Thomas, because thou hast seen me,
thou hast believed: blessed are they that have not seen, and yet have believed.”
John 20:28-29 KJV
in short Jesus is the grand subject of scripture he is the fulfillment of all the promises God has made to mankind from the beginning without end. All roads in the law and prophets lead to Christ Jesus revealed in the four accounts of the gospel
when we say Jesus is the Christ the son of God , the importance is we’re acknowledging Jesus is those promises God made to man come to pass. He is “ the one God sent “
For remission of sins as witnessed by all the prophets
“To him give
all the prophets witness, that
through his name whosoever believeth in him shall receive remission of sins.”

Neither is there salvation in any other: for
there is none other name under heaven given among men, whereby we must be saved.”

the guiding light in darkness
“Then spake Jesus again unto them, saying,
I am the light of the world: he that
followeth me shall not walk in darkness, but shall have the light of life.”

When we say the Christ we’re saying he’s all this and more whatever else the prophets and law said of him is who the Christ is . When we say “he is the Christ “ we’re saying he is the fulfillment of Gods word
