I am much disturbed by the current emphasis on the Holy Spirit in the church. I am baptised in the Holy Spirit and I have some gifts of the Spirit. I am not a cessasionist. However, God's intent is revealed in His word, which is:

"With all wisdom and understanding, he made known to us the mystery of his will according to his good pleasure, which he purposed in Christ, to be put into effect when the times reach their fulfillment—to bring unity to all things in heaven and on earth under Christ." (Ephesians 1:8-10)

"For in Him (Jesus) all things were created, things in heaven and on earth, visible and invisible, whether thrones or dominions or rulers or authorities. All things were created through Him and for Him." (Colossians 1:16)

"Therefore God exalted Him (Jesus) to the highest place and gave Him the name above all names, that at the name of Jesus every knee should bow, in heaven and on earth and under the earth.............." (Philippians 2: 9&10)

Demons are not impressed when we say "Holy Spirit". They must obey when we command them in Jesus' name. (Luke 10:17).

I pray for the church as Paul did:

"I ask that the eyes of your heart may be enlightened, so that you may know the hope of His calling, the riches of His glorious inheritance in the saints, and the surpassing greatness of His power to us who believe. These are in accordance with the working of His mighty strength, which He exerted in Christ when He raised Him from the dead and seated Him at His right hand in the heavenly realms, far above all rule and authority, power and dominion, and every name that is named, not only in the present age but also in the one to come. And God put everything under His feet and made Him head over everything for the church, which is His body, the fullness of Him who fills all in all." (Ephesians 1:18-23)

Hi Gideon,

Amen and amen, bro. What seems to have happened is that the was a time when the Holy Spirit was highlighted, however people forgot that He is only to reveal what the Head of the Body is saying.

`However, when He, the Spirit of truth, has come, He will guide you into all truth; for He will NOT speak on His own authority, but whatever He hears he will speak; and He will tell you things to come.

He will glorify Me for He will take of what is mine and declare it to you.` (John 16: 13 & 14)

And the wrong focus on the Holy Spirit has led to all sorts of weird prophecies, when they should have been OF the Lord.

`For the testimony of Jesus is the spirit of prophecy.` (Rev. 19: 10)

I was brought up with prophets and prophecy and they always spoke of Christ, His character and His work amongst us. Not fotune telling or who would be in government etc. The Prophet is to build up and edify the Body of Christ. (Eph. 4: 11 & 12)

regards, Marilyn.

This is important both for now and for the future. Both the Father and the Holy Spirit direct our attention to the Lord Jesus Christ throughout Scripture, because the Father has handed all power and authority to Christ (Mt 28:18). And when all things are subdued under Him, He will hand back the Kingdom of God to the Father (1 Cor 15:24).

In Isaiah 45:22,23 Christ speaks of Himself as God and says this: Look unto me, and be ye saved, all the ends of the earth: for I am God, and there is none else. I have sworn by myself, the word is gone out of my mouth in righteousness, and shall not return, That unto me every knee shall bow, every tongue shall swear.

So when Paul quotes this exact verse 23 in connection with the Judgment Seat of Christ, he too refers to Christ as God: For it is written, As I live, saith the Lord, every knee shall bow to me, and every tongue shall confess to God. So then every one of us shall give account of himself to God. (Rom 14:11,12)

Every tongue shall confess that Jesus Christ is Lord, to the glory of God the Father (Phil 2:11)
