1 Thessalonians 5 23 May the God of peace Himself sanctify you entirely; and may your spirit and soul and bodybe preserved complete, without blame at the coming of our Lord Jesus Christ. 24 Faithful is He who calls you, and He also will bring it to pass.

1 Thessalonians 5:23-24~ May the God of peace Himself sanctify you wholly; and may your spirit and soul and body be kept sound and blameless at the coming of our Lord Jesus Christ. He Who calls you is faithful, and He will do it.

I remember gas at $0.29 and/or $0.39 cents a gallon :giggle:
Gasoline in my hometown, for about my first 6-8 years of driving, ranged from a low of $0.17/gallon to a high of $0.23/gallon (those were the days :)). I also remember when it first hit $0.99/gallon as I was on my way to NYC, and the independent truckers were staging a protest because of the price hikes (by slowing highway speeds for all of us down to 5 mph).

I guess that I'm considered to be "a senior", but I certainly don't feel like one.

Anyhow, welcome aboard, and don't be shy.

quietlady53 As you are seeing, thread-hijacking is a common past-time around here. I hope you like talking! Lol
I recall gas being 19 cents for a Canadian gallon, which is about 25% more than an American one. I recall every evening after supper, Dad would turn on the 6 o'clock news and we'd see the latest from Viet Nam. It seemed like that war would never end!

I remember the Viet Nam on the nightly news too.

I am 67 so I probably qualify as a senior. We all were new once so just relax and be yourself. Glad to have you onboard with us. Welcome to CC.

Welcome QL. Many of us are perhaps past our prime, but are soldiering on. Whether be they young, or not so young, you’ll find plenty of chat companions here 🙂
I feel that I'm past my prime too. Yes, we must continue to fight the good fight. I can relate to the soldier reference.

Yeah no kidding...then it jumped immediately up to 62 cents a gallon....my father was passed.
How is your café/bakery/coffee shop coming along? And your bread recipes?

I took my basic pizza dough recipe and turned it into a chocolate cherry pecan loaf yesterday :D

That was long after it was only 30 cents a gallon.

Was it in the 30's that it was 30 cents? The lowest I recall gas being is around .88, when I got my first car probably, which is more than less in the vicinity of the same year...sometime in the later side of the 1900's...
Saying, 'in the 20th century" sounds all too recent, and I like the idea of that I'm an 'ancient' born in the 1900s.

The dream is dead!
I put it in a coffin in the same mausoleum as my feelings are held in.

The property owner was a crook and tried to cut out his own agent out of commissions. So we decided that we can't trust him and won't do business with him. And we likely aren't going to be able to find a property in time. We were running out of time as it was for a Fall open.

As it is now we are too late. We won't be able to get anything open in time this year. We have around $200K worth of equipment stashed and ordered around town and on its way...and no where to put it.

This is because permits and inspections from the state require time...not to mention remodeling crews and actually doing the work.

We are going to look at an existing bakery today to purchase...but with two others a stones throw away and 5 others in this suburban community...they are overloaded.

So the dream is dead....
Maybe next year...maybe...

Oh dear! John, John, John, I am so sorry to hear that but you know what??? It can still work out because you moving into an area that is already popular for people seeking community over coffee and croissants (etc) simply means your customer base is already in place! If what you have to offer is superior, and from what you have described as your standards it sounds like it very well could be, then over time the quality of your offerings will draw away from the existing businesses to grow your own. That is a something I lived through, not with my own business (ha, I never wanted that headache) but at the last lab I worked in of the three over the full course of my adult life: we moved onto a block where there were already three photo lab businesses. I am not sure how long it took, but pretty soon, we were the last one standing heh that is to say, us and the only other one that specialized in black and white. The other two? We put them out of business because we offered a superior product. I pray you do not give up hope! After all you have done and is in the works still, keep moving forward!

I think on a very old hymn...

Whatever my lot,
Thou hast taught me to say,
"It is well, it is well, it is well with my soul"

It's one of my favorite hymns. Much much more than "Your an overcomer" garbage that compromises so much of contemporary music today.

Being God's slave I don't get to always choose when, where, or what I do. I just go where He makes the path. It's not torturous...God does things for my benefit even if I don't understand or know why. I just "Trust and obey, there's no other way to be happy in Jesus but to trust and obey".
Not exactly popular words these days...but they are true nonetheless.

God isn't Santa, and I'm just a slave of his. It's better to be a street sweeper's apprentice helper in Heaven than a ruler in Hell.

I don't know what the future holds...but God does...so I'll rely upon his judgment. I may be bored out of my head in my quasi-retired life. But again that isn't exactly my choice either.
