At this time God didn’t communicate with people anymore especially through visions (it’s quite rare). At night, while asleep, Samuel hears someone calling him. So he goes to Eli, thinking that it is he who calls him. It happens three times but Samuel hasn’t been in touch with God till now. Eli realizes it is God who speaks to Samuel. He tells Samuel to answer God and listen to him. And God tells Samuel to tell Eli that he is going to destroy his family because he didn’t do anything against his sons. And Samuel keeps growing with God’s favor.

When I think about Samuel I can’t avoid thinking of his two sons. When he was brought to the temple he was in contact with Eli’s sons who were priests serving at the temple. But they were badly. But it did not prevent Samuel to become God’s faithful servant. We can imagine that as High Priest Samuel was busy at God’s service. Unfortunately, we don’t know how he raised his children and what he did to educate them. And in fact, it’s the same for God’s faithful servants. We know that God educated them through hard life: Moses and David went to the wilderness and they were trained so.

Samuel was a man chosen for God, from his miraculous birth until his death. He served in several important positions during his life, earning God's favor because he knew how to obey.

Samuel was a contemporary of King Saul and King David. His parents Elkanah and Hannah dedicated him to the Lord, giving the child to the priest Eli to be raised in the temple. In Acts 3:20 Samuel is portrayed as the last of the judges and the first of the prophets. Few people in the Bible were as obedient to God as Samuel.
Lessons From Samuel's Life

Obedience and respect are the best ways we can show God we love him. While the people of his time were destroyed by their own selfishness, Samuel stood out as a man of honor. Like Samuel, we can avoid the corruption of this world if we place God first in our life.

When Hannah vowed a vow unto the Lord what two things did she promise if the Lord would give her a man child? (I Samuel 1:11)

https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Nazirite

In the Hebrew Bible, a nazirite or a nazarite (Hebrew: נזיר) is one who voluntarily took a vow which is described in Numbers 6:1–21. "Nazarite" comes from the Hebrew word nazir meaning "consecrated" or "separated".Those who put themselves under a Nazirite vow do so by adding unto themselves a degree of sanctity, as it says: "Until the time is completed, etc., he shall be holy." A person who puts himself under a Nazirite vow without designating how long he intends to remain as such, he is obligated in all that pertains to Nazirite strictures for a period of thirty days. This vow required the person to observe the following strictures:
  • Abstain from all wine and anything else made from the grape vine plant, such as cream of tartar, grape seed oil, etc. (Traditional rabbinic authorities state that all other types of alcohol were permitted.)
  • Refrain from cutting the hair on one's head; but to allow the locks of the head's hair to grow.
  • Not to become ritually impure by contact with corpses or graves, even those of family members.
After following these requirements for a designated interval (which would be specified in the individual's vow), the person would immerse in a mikveh and make three offerings: a lamb as a burnt offering (olah), a ewe as a sin offering (hatat), and a ram as a peace offering (shelamim), in addition to a basket of unleavened bread, grain offerings and drink offerings, which accompanied the peace offering. They would also shave their heads in the outer courtyard of the Temple in Jerusalem and then they would place the hair on the same fire as the peace offering (Numbers 6:18).

The nazirite is described as being "holy unto God", yet at the same time, he or she must bring a sin offering. This has led to divergent approaches to the nazirite in the Talmud, and later authorities, with some viewing the nazirite as an ideal, and others viewing the Nazirite as a sinner.

Hannah asks Eli not to count thine handmaid for a daughter of whom? (I Samuel 1:16)

For a worthless woman. It is strange to think that Elkanah thinks that his wife drinks alcohol and that she is drunk when she is not. Does he really know his wife ? Had he ever find her drunk ? If not it is a strange way to judge by appearances especially when it is someone of your family or someone you are supposed to know well !

In Hannah’s prayer of thanksgiving where is the Lord able to set the poor and what can He make them inherit? (I Samuel 2:8)

To sit with princes and giving them a seat of honor and they may inherit the productive land. That’s how Hannah feels while being pregnant for the first time and having a son.

As the people were offering sacrifice and while flesh was in the seething who came with a flesh hook of three teeth in his hand? (I Samuel 2:13)

An attendant of the priest that is of one of the two sons of Eli. Everything was well organized in front of everybody : they had no shame. But when we think of the Israelites and the jews it was the same so !

Who came to Eli and reminded him that God had chosen his ancestors out of all the tribes of Israel to be his priests? (I Samuel 2:27-28)

A man of God. God sends his messengers. He does everything on time. Of course, it is different from human time, a difference of scale like God’s way and man’s way.

Why was the word of the Lord precious when the child Samuel ministered unto the Lord before Eli? (I Samuel 3:1)

Word from God had become rare in those days ; visions were not widespread.
