So far, we're the three amigos.
Well, I'd hate to be the guy who breaks up your trio, so how about I just call myself "The Fourth Musketeer"?
My own life could probably be summed up best by the following words of Jeremiah:
Jeremiah chapter 15
[
10] Woe is me, my mother, that thou hast borne me a man of strife and a man of contention to the whole earth! I have neither lent on usury, nor men have lent to me on usury; yet every one of them doth curse me.
Jeremiah continued:
[
15] O LORD, thou knowest: remember me, and visit me, and revenge me of my persecutors; take me not away in thy longsuffering: know that for thy sake I have suffered rebuke.
[
16] Thy words were found, and I did eat them; and thy word was unto me the joy and rejoicing of mine heart: for I am called by thy name, O LORD God of hosts.
[
17] I sat not in the assembly of the mockers, nor rejoiced;
I sat alone because of thy hand: for thou hast filled me with indignation.
[
18] Why is my pain perpetual, and my wound incurable, which refuseth to be healed? wilt thou be altogether unto me as a liar, and as waters that fail?
God's response?
[
19] Therefore thus saith the LORD,
If thou return, then will I bring thee again, and thou shalt stand before me: and if thou take forth the precious from the vile, thou shalt be as my mouth: let them return unto thee; but return not thou unto them.
In other words, IF YOU REPENT (of your self-pity), Jeremiah, then I'll continue to use you as my mouthpiece.
Here is how the Amplified Bible reads in verse 19:
Therefore, thus says the LORD [to Jeremiah], “If you repent [and give up this mistaken attitude of despair and self-pity], then I will restore you [to a state of inner peace] So that you may stand before Me [as My obedient representative]; And if you separate the precious from the worthless [examining yourself and cleansing your heart from unwarranted doubt concerning My faithfulness], You will become My spokesman. Let the people turn to you [and learn to value My values]— But you, you must not turn to them [with regard for their idolatry and wickedness].
When Jesus said that we need to deny ourselves (and the accompanying self-pity) and to take up our crosses (which were a means of cruel execution at the hands of a Christ-hating world) in order to truly follow him (Matt. 16:24), he wasn't joking.
I know perfectly well what it means to be alone or to suffer basically worldwide rejection for the cause of Christ.
I've often semi-joked with people while saying "Even my imaginary friends don't like me".
Even on this forum, there are several people whose contempt for me is palpable.
Anyhow, like it or not, as Christians, we've been called to suffer as Christ suffered, and a large part of said suffering will come in the form of rejection. From God's vantage point, we're actually BLESSED as we suffer the same:
Luke chapter 6
[
22] Blessed are ye, when men shall hate you, and when they shall separate you from their company, and shall reproach you, and cast out your name as evil, for the Son of man's sake.
[
23] Rejoice ye in that day, and leap for joy: for, behold, your reward is great in heaven: for in the like manner did their fathers unto the prophets.
