Christianity without the HOLY SPIRIT is mere religion.
And anyone who says he/she is a Christian without the HOLY SPIRIT is a religious person. And religion will only lead you to hell.

Can a Christian be religious?
Hello Magenta, speaking of Christians, the Bible seems to tell us that there is a proper way to worship [IOW, to put our faith or religion into practice], a way that is pleasing to God, and there are other ways of doing so which are worthless.

On the other hand, the practice of religion by the unsaved is ~always~ worthless (at least in the eyes of God anyway).

Colossians 2
20 If you have died with Christ to the elementary principles of the world, why, as if you were living in the world, do you submit yourself to decrees, such as,
21 “Do not handle, do not taste, do not touch!”
22 (which all refer to things destined to perish with use)—in accordance with the commandments and teachings of men?
23 These are matters which have, to be sure, the appearance of wisdom in self-made religion and self-abasement and severe treatment of the body, but are of no value against fleshly indulgence.
1 Timothy 5
4 If any widow has children or grandchildren, they must first learn to practice piety [put their religion into practice] in regard to their own family and to make some return to their parents; for this is acceptable in the sight of God.
James 2
26 If anyone thinks himself to be religious, and yet does not bridle his tongue but deceives his own heart, this man’s religion is worthless.
27 Pure and undefiled religion in the sight of our God and Father is this: to visit orphans and widows in their distress, and to keep oneself unstained by the world.

God bless you!

Hello again @Magenta, et al, I would think it important for one who "claims" to be a believer on the one hand, but is habitually practicing a worthless religion on the other, to consider whether or not they are fooling themselves about truly being "in Christ"

2 Corinthians 13
5 Test yourselves to see if you are in the faith; examine yourselves! Or do you not recognize this about yourselves, that Jesus Christ is in you—unless indeed you fail the test?
