The Book of Job and sufferings in Christian Life

Dear Brothers and Sisters, please share your thoughts on the Book of Job.

If you were Job, how would you have reacted? It is difficult to say "Yahweh gave, and Yahweh hath taken away; blessed be the name of Yahweh" (Job 1:21) when we lose all our possessions and all our wealth. Yet, knowing how the story ends, God restored everything double to Job. If Job had not lost hope that God would give him his blessings back, maybe Job's suffering would be less. I think God gives us the Promise of Eternal Life to console us in our sorrows; since we know All will be Well in the end for believers, we experience God's comfort even in trials, with the hope that suffering ends one day.

What else do you think would be good to meditate on, for believers facing either persecution or other sufferings?

It might be good to think about the difference in Job's attitude prior to losing his quality of health and then after becoming incredibly sick. Why did his attitude change so drastically? And after much whining and complaining, the Lord finally said, "Brace yourself like a man . . ." and proceeded to unleash the most prolific tongue-lashing the Bible has to offer. And after this tongue-lashing, Job took upon himself an entirely new attitude but once again. Why? What is the determining factor that caused Jobs's attitude to fluctuate as it did?

Job 38-42 is a must read.
It portrays the magnitude and magnificence of God and our lack of knowledge concerning this yet we see God allowing us to seek and ask and he answers.

A must read and every time I read it I am humbled yet blessed

Recognizing the Almighty Power of God is what that set of Scripture is about, and it is precisely why Job changed his attitude. Prior to losing his entire family, he was surely a great and Righteous man, demonstrated in his attitude towards losing his greatest treasures . . . his children. But were his children his greatest treasures? It wasn't until he became sick with boils that he wanted to die . . . life became all about himself. Job lost tremendous focus on the Spiritual Realm and began to focus on this physical world and his body. But after the Lord showed Himself to Job, this was when True Reality hit the proverbial fan. When God spoke to Job, outlining His incredible Power . . . and when Job Truly realized that God was in control of all that was and had been taking place, he was more than beside himself. It was in this moment that Job Truly recognized the Almighty Power of God and, as you say . . . humbled himself. And when Job Truly became humbled, his whining . . . INCESSANT WHINING stopped. It was through the recognition of that Power that Job took upon a whole new attitude.

Power. The Power of God. This is the number one most important concept that we should take away from the Bible when we read it in a timeline, chronological order. This Power and the recognition of it, becomes inescapable. And, anyone who reads the Bible and grasps this incredible concept, will approach and understand the Bible in an entirely new and better way.
