This is the true revealing of the transfiguration, and why they were witnessed by Peter, james, and John.

Everything is explained right here in 1 John 5:7-8

For there are three that bear record in heaven, the Father, the Word, and the Holy Ghost: and these three are one.

And there are three that bear witness in earth, the Spirit(Word of God) , and the water(old covenant), and the blood(new covenant): and these three agree in one.

Matthew 18:20
For where two or three are gathered together in my name, there am I in the midst of them.

Matthew 18:20 is not only referring to the three that bare witness on the earth(OT&Spirit, or, NT&Spirit, Or a combination of all three. It is also referring to you, whenever you are reading his Word with the Holy Spirit. He is with you in the mist.Just like he was How Peter, james, and John witnessed the transfiguration and later brought the good news,so you to must witness, and bare witness.

This is where many get this wrong and think that Moses, Elijah are the Two Witnesses of Revelation.Or even someone like Enoch for some odd reason.
They'll say that Moses represents the Law, and Elijah the prophets. It's true that Moses represents the Law.But Elijah is there to represent the Spirit, and Jesus is the blood!

So there is the Spirit, the water, and the blood that bare witness of the earth at the transfiguration of Jesus! Peter, james and John are there to bare witness of this event.

Even the one's that bare record in heaven were at the transfiguration. The Father, the Word, the Holy Ghost. And those three are one.

Mark 9:7
And there was a cloud that overshadowed them: and a voice came out of the cloud, saying, This is my beloved Son: hear him.

And suddenly, when they had looked round about, they saw no man any more, save Jesus only with themselves.(every thing points to Jesus.Including, the spirit, the ,water, and the blood.)

The Two Witnesses revealed. They are the testimony of Jesus. And not only do Peter, james, and John witness this event. They must bare witness to it to the people.
This is also symbolic of the 144,000.They are a remnant and God uses them as his witnesses.I posted scripture in the recent 144,000 relating to this if anyone is interested.

Remember Jesus tells them not to reveal what happen until he is risen from the dead(he came by water, and the blood.)From that time on, starting from the 12 Apostles/First fruits, they gave the testimony of The Two Witnesses(old covenant, new covenant). And we must all shout from the roof tops the good news.
In Revelation 14,the 144,000 sing a new song that only they know. That is the testimony from Genesis to Revelation.

1 Peter 18-22
Forasmuch as ye know that ye were not redeemed with corruptible things, as silver and gold, from your vain conversation received by tradition from your fathers;

But with the precious blood of Christ, as of a lamb without blemish and without spot:

Who verily was foreordained before the foundation of the world, but was manifest in these last times for you,

Who by him do believe in God, that raised him up from the dead, and gave him glory; that your faith and hope might be in God.

Seeing ye have purified your souls in obeying the truth through the Spirit unto unfeigned love of the brethren, see that ye love one another with a pure heart fervently:

I wanna share something that just hit me.That is the crossing of the Jordan. This is a spiritual truth.Hidden treasure. Most of it I've known for a while, and over time I gain a better understanding of it.To make this point faster I'll skip Egypt and the 40 years in the desert.Everyone that witnessed being captive in Egypt dies in the Desert.Only two are left.Caleb and Joshua. They are symbolic of the Two Witnesses just like Moses and Arron were before their deaths.Caleb and Joshua are to lead the Israelites to the promise land.
Before crossing Joshua sends two Spies to view over the land. These Two are also symbolic of the Two Witnesses. (scripture provided later)
First clue is that they are to send back a witness testimony of what they saw. But,not only are these spies symbolic of The Two Witnesses. They are part of the remnant that made it out of the desert. They are one.
And so they see Rahab and she fears the Lord and hides them on the roof top under flax.in those days flax was used to strengthen bricks used for walls and roads.Symbolically meaning that The Two Witnesses will strengthen the people and on them hidden on the rooftops has meaning as well.

Luke 12:2-3
For there is nothing covered, that shall not be revealed; neither hid, that shall not be known.

Therefore whatsoever ye have spoken in darkness shall be heard in the light; and that which ye have spoken in the ear in closets shall be proclaimed upon the housetops.

Ok.I don't want to lie about this part.Jesus revealed this to me way back before I even was a Christian.this whole crossing the Jordan thing. And back then I didn't even understand a single thing of what he was saying. So I'd ask him to give me a clearer answer. But he would just quote scripture with scripture. At that time I knew he was quoting scripture and I only knew next to nothing from my childhood going to church with my mother.
So I didn't believe him lol Honestly didn't believe a word he said.Until many years later when God put it in my heart to pick up the Bible when I felt so lost, worthless and unloved. And I read for about 7 days. The Words just came alive to me and verses felt like they were for me.Talking to me.Figuratively speaking. My head was in the clouds during those days.Everything he said was the truth and I'd just find connections to the 144,000 and knew that The Two Witnesses were connected somehow.I just needed to find the scripture that testify to it.Over time a verse here and there would connect.God wants you to search for these things. That's why he didn't speak plainly to me.

Back to the two spies.Rahab asks that they spare the lives of her father, mother, brothers and sisters, and all that belong to them.To spare them death. The two spies say "our lives for yours" (Joshua 2:14) So she ties a scarlet rope to help them escape through the window.Rahab is symbolic of spiritual prostitute and the Two Witnesses give their lives for the testimony of Jesus.
here's what hit me today. The spirit, the water and the blood were both there on that day.Even though the new covenant wasn't yet revealed. The Spirit of God,the Jordan river,The velvet rope.Jesus made a way for the two spies.Again in Rev11/Rev14

Read the chapter yourselves and you'll see that these events foreshadow things to come in Revelation. The three days of darkness is also there

(Joshua 2:18-20)
Behold, when we come into the land, thou shalt bind this line of scarlet thread in the window which thou didst let us down by: and thou shalt bring thy father, and thy mother, and thy brethren, and all thy father's household, home unto thee.

And it shall be, that whosoever shall go out of the doors of thy house into the street, his blood shall be upon his head, and we will be guiltless: and whosoever shall be with thee in the house, his blood shall be on our head, if any hand be upon him.

And if thou utter this our business, then we will be quit of thine oath which thou hast made us to swear.

Here's the scripture that backs up the Two spies/Witnesses in the flax.

Zechariah 2:1-5
lifted up mine eyes again, and looked, and behold a man with a measuring line in his hand.

Then said I, Whither goest thou? And he said unto me, To measure Jerusalem, to see what is the breadth thereof, and what is the length thereof.

And, behold, the angel that talked with me went forth, and another angel went out to meet him,

And said unto him, Run, speak to this young man, saying, Jerusalem shall be inhabited as towns without walls for the multitude of men and cattle therein:

For I, saith the Lord, will be unto her a wall of fire round about, and will be the glory in the midst of her.

Can you see and hear? The spirit, the water and the blood are his Two Witnesses. The Lord is in us and he will be a wall of Fire surrounding Jerusalem.
Where Two or three are gathered, there he is in the mist of them. The Spirit, the water and the blood.

Matthew 6:21
For where your treasure is, there will your heart be also.

So we strengthen ourselves by reading of the scripture, dwelling with the Holy Spirit. And as we are strengthen by his testimony,He will be as a wall of fire protecting us.

No one wants to comment on the the spirit, the water and the blood being at the transfiguration? or the fact that Peter, james, and John presence also had a meaning most Christians don't understand?

Isaiah 8:18
Behold, I and the children whom the LORD hath given me are for signs and for wonders in Israel from the LORD of hosts, which dwelleth in mount Zion.

If anyone here believes the testimony are his Two Witnesses of Revelation. Please share your treasures you hold close to your heart that testifies that it is truth. Please save mine if you haven't already found them. There's so much more. These past few days the Lord has stirred my heart.God will get me thinking about something and I'll dwell on it for a little bit and 'swoosh' the wings of a great eagle will carry me.And it just verse after verse.I'm still young and fell asleep for awhile.Maybe if I kept awake these truths wouldn't overwhelm me.And the more I read it's just Jesus,Jesus,Jesus.Look there he is!He really does have supremacy over everything. My Lord, and my God.
His name is Jesus. His transfiguration really doe's open up a can of worms.

Have you noticed when Jesus was baptized in water , the spirit descended upon him and he heard the voice of the father in heaven voice from heaven witnessing this was his son whom would shed his own blood ?

“Now when all the people were baptized, it came to pass, that Jesus also being baptized, and praying, the heaven was opened, and the Holy Ghost descended in a bodily shape like a dove upon him, and a voice came from heaven, which said, Thou art my beloved Son; in thee I am well pleased.”
‭‭Luke‬ ‭3:21-22‬ ‭KJV‬‬

baptism in water for remission , receiving the gift of the spirit and relying on the blood of remission . Witnesses the son of God from heaven and his mission

spirits witness

“It is the spirit that quickeneth; the flesh profiteth nothing: the words that I speak unto you, they are spirit, and they are life.”
‭‭John‬ ‭6:63‬ ‭KJV‬‬

bloods witness of the testament spoken by him

“for this is my blood of the new testament, which is shed for many for the remission of sins.”
‭‭Matthew‬ ‭26:28‬ ‭KJV‬‬

Witness of water through baptism

“The like figure whereunto even baptism doth also now save us (not the putting away of the filth of the flesh, but the answer of a good conscience toward God,) by the resurrection of Jesus Christ:”
‭‭1 Peter‬ ‭3:21‬ ‭KJV‬‬

The witness of water baptism sound like this

“Then Peter said unto them, Repent, and be baptized every one of you in the name of Jesus Christ for the remission of sins,

and ye shall receive the gift of the Holy Ghost.”( spirit )

I know the water and blood are for remission. What you mean by water and spirit we do not because we have heard the witness of the blood and believe?

Spirit(Holy Spirit),the water(water baptism) and the blood(blood baptism) are needed for believers under the new covenant. They do testify on the earth like you say they do.But without the testimony of Jesus,we have nothing to bare witness of.His covenants on Mount Sinai, and on the cross are what we testify of.Through the Sword of the Spirit.
So,the word of God(Spirit) the water(old covenant) the Blood(new covenant)= his Two Witnesses.

Ephesians 6:17
And take the helmet of salvation, and the sword of the Spirit, which is the word of God:

There is no putting on the armor of God without strengthening ourselves through his word.

If you want feedback on your theories I can tell you that from my perspective there is nothing in your presentation that can be supported by the contextual meaning of the Transfiguration. It has nothing to do with the Two Witnesses of Rev 11 and I personally don't think Moses and Elijah are intended either.

Concerning the meaning of the Two Witnesses of Rev 11 the text tells us what we need to grasp....
3 And I will appoint my two witnesses, and they will prophesy for 1,260 days, clothed in sackcloth.” 3 And I will appoint my two witnesses, and they will prophesy for 1,260 days, clothed in sackcloth.” 4 They are “the two olive trees” and the two lampstands, and “they stand before the Lord of the earth.”

Now if you go to Zech 4 and read about this you see that it a message was given to Zechariah as to the meaning of the two olive trees and two lampstands. That message was "not by might nor by power... etc and as you read that message it is in regards to the fact that the temple will be rebuilt regardless of the enemies that are trying to stop it... "who art thou oh mountain..." So it is most likely that Rev 11 "measure the temple" is a prophesy about a rebuilding of the temple, and that it will be done regardless of those who try and stop it.

Maybe I am wrong but the only thing he tells us is this...4 They are “the two olive trees” and the two lampstands, and “they stand before the Lord of the earth.” And that directs us that message "not by might... etc" So I believe that is the main message we are supposed to get from "who are the two witnesses" question.

As to the transfiguration, Moses and Elijah were talking to Jesus about his departure/Exodus at Jerusalem, and not just "many people" think they are representative of the Law and the Prophets but most expert scholars and for good reasons which are well articulated in their commentaries. Jesus being pointed out by God the Father as superior and to be listened to. That what he is accomplishing at Jerusalem in his departure fulfils all that went before him pointed to. The two witnesses of Rev 11 are not involved in the transfiguration.

Your reasonings don't fit any rules of hermeneutics. Not context, not subject, not logic. Your logic seems personal and invented, I could be missing your points, but I sort of get a headache trying to follow your reasoning and for that reason I'm going to have to give you the feedback that I think you have missed the boat entirely on this theory. Not to be argumentative or rude, just giving feedback in a polite conversation. Please don't take it personally. :)

No offense taken.I'm still trying to get a better understanding of Zachariah 4 myself. Not by might nor by power, but by my spirit(Holy Spirit/Word of God) says the Lord of Host.
When you say Moses and Elijah talking about his departure/Exodus at Jerusalem. Are you talking OT Jerusalem? That's the first time I've heard anyone say that.
Where's the spirit, the water and the blood at the bringing of the Law in your opinion if Elijah represents the prophets?

I'll talk about the bringing of the Law.Hidden treasures. There's even more I've missed just waiting for me.Mose's he's considered a remnant and he goes up to the mountain. The Spirit of God is there and and Moses is given the Law.
This is the Spirit and the water that testifys over all the earth that's written in 1 John 5:8.
Moses was ceremonially clean.Because of that, we have the Spirit, the water, and the blood on Mount Sinai.

Matthew 18:2
For where two or three are gathered together in my name, there am I in the midst of them.
(the Spirit, the water, and the Blood.)

Following the true meaning of this verse, there is only two gathered in his name on Mount Sinai. The Spirit and the water.Becasue His works on the cross hasn't been finished yet.Moses is only a witness to this event. Why would God let a prophet do the finished works of our Lord Jesus??This isn't his testimony. He didn't know the truth of why Jesus had to die the way he did.Otherwise he wouldn't have struck rock in disbelief. (Numbers 20:10-11.)

And because Moses was a witness to this,he had to go down the mountain and tell all the Israelites everything and give the Law.Even though the Levites said that they will listen to Moses if he intercedes for them out of fear of the Lord, the whole camp was in disarray.
Moses out of anger breaks the two tablets(signifying the broken covenant) and calls out for anyone who is for the Lord to come to him.The tribe of Levi stands for God and rally to Moses. Then they are told to take to the sword and slay his brother, his friend, his neighbor.

Now there's all three that testify of all the earth.Jesus was the first fruits, and all those who were slain are first fruits under the old covenant, and are signs and wonders of things of things to come.

Isaiah 8:18
Behold, I and the children whom the LORD hath given me are for signs and for wonders in Israel from the LORD of hosts, which dwelleth in mount Zion.

The resurrection comes later. Are you my brother,my friend,my neighbor?Do you stand for the Lord?If you say yes! then you must take this sword and convict your unbelieving brother, your unbelieving friend, your unbelieving neighbor and slay him! Without question you must slay him!
With the same sword guarding the tree of life in Genesis. The same double edge sword that comes out the mouth of our Lord Jesus in revelation. And if he believes in the Words of Jesus.he will live!

My own earthy father wanted to kill me.My real father wants me to live! With his testimony he saved me!The Word of God saved me!.from first verse of Genesis, to the last verse of Revelation,I am saved!
I wanna shout it from the rooftop man! Thank you Jesus! Hallelujah!, Hallelujah!, Hallelujah! Three times for those bearing witness on the earth! My Lord and my God! Thank you Jesus!

Sorry.God has been moving me the last few days. All day my head was in the clouds and he is in the mist.I'll finish on the topic of Mount Sinai tomorrow.

Each of us needs to be transfigured in to a new creation in Jesus Christ, led by the Spirit, and living to do the Father's will with love. That's what Christianity is all about.

And behold, two men talked with Him, who were Moses and Elijah,
who appeared in glory and spoke of His departure which He was about to accomplish at Jerusalem.

(Luke 9:30-31)
that word 'departure' is 'exodon' -- literally, His exodus.
kjv & nkjv and some other translations put '
His decease' here, taking it to figuratively refer to His crucifixion.

Jesus being pointed out by God the Father as superior and to be listened to. That what he is accomplishing at Jerusalem in his departure fulfils all that went before him pointed to. The two witnesses of Rev 11 are not involved in the transfiguration.
Moses saw Who was inside the pillar of cloud & fire, the shekinah glory that filled the temple. Moses spoke with Him in the tabernacle.
Elijah was taken up into it, the chariot of God.

no other men are recorded in scripture having been inside that bright cloud of glory -- IMO while there are many analogies and metaphors and symbolisms in the appearance of these two men at the transfiguration, none of them are the 'primary' reason that Moses & Elijah are the people who are present there in glory. these two particular men are present because they, and they alone, are qualified as witnesses to Who is in the cloud: Jesus Christ, the Son, God Himself in flesh.

the transfiguration therefore is witness of His deity -- and speaking of His departure, recall that in Jerusalem the veil was rent: God is no longer worshipped in the temple built by human hands, but in spirit & truth. He is no longer dwelling between the cherubim over the mercy seat of the ark, but in the midst of all who put their faith and hope in Him, believing on His name.

this is not to say that there is no symbolism of law & prophets, water and blood etc. present -- there are many duads all over scripture, and always the witness of 2 or 3 establishes a matter. but that is not the primary reason for Moses & Elijah to be present. those analogies do not explain why these two and these two specifically are there -- the thing that explains why it is Moses & Elijah and no one else is what they have seen and can attest to: that Christ is Himself the LORD in the pillar of cloud, the One who filled the temple, having come in the flesh, and Who would soon depart.

Exactly. To give witness of fulfillment of prophecy given to us by his Two faithful Witnesses. And we must also testify to our brothers, friends, and neighbors.
The commandment Jesus gave us before he died on the cross is literally the answer to life.Love is the answer to life. And that love is found in Jesus.

The 2 tablets written in stone(cap stone) are symbolic of his Two witnesses. The word of God and the Law(Spirit, water). The sanctification and death of the Israelites are a wave offering.Foreshadowing.The blood on the cross and the receiving the Holy Spirit.(the blood)
The Spirit, the water, and the blood all there giving witness,or testifying if you put it in another way. They were present at the giving of the Law.
Exodus 32:27
And he said unto them, Thus saith the Lord God of Israel, Put every man his sword by his side, and go in and out from gate to gate throughout the camp, and slay every man his brother, and every man his companion, and every man his neighbour.

Hebrews 4:12
For the word of God is alive and active. Sharper than any double-edged sword, it penetrates even to dividing soul and spirit, joints and marrow; it judges the thoughts and attitudes of the heart.

The word of God Judges you by his covenants and they are those that Witness against you(The Two Witnesses of Revelation).Convicting you of your sins. How many will hear the testimony and open their eyes, and ears, and see, and hear, the Revelation of Jesus Christ and say, yes! it is truth! You did it at the Cross! Your words of tearing of the veil Testify to it! From the beginning,to the end of your word,Lord,Your testimony is true! Praise God!

Well the LORD did not need to have a 'exodus' as HE was not born in sin.
Yet, HE did share in His brethren's 'exodus' = "Out of Egypt I have called My Son"
HE did come to do the Will of the Father.
The specifics of His Will was for His Son to be crucified, via put to death on the Cross = Genesis/Law/Prophets

Therefore, based upon "it is written" everyone can rest and be assured that Moses and Elijah spoke with Jesus concerning the fulfillment of all things written concerning HIM = of MOST Importance = His Death.
