Contrary to what some teach, alcohol is neither cunning nor baffling...though the human heart is!
Some can drink responsibly and some can't. And for you, it is sinful for you to drink.
This post sums up what scripture teaches about alcohol use. There IS such a thing as alcoholism, and for people with this disease one drink can trigger the disease. Scripture addresses this as it warns against ever drinking so much you become drunk.

Alcohol- a world wide phenomena

Could this be the solution to the rising gas prices?!

Marijuana has some legitimate medical uses. It can be an excellent substitute for opiates for chronic pain relief.
L.S.D. is a dangerous drug with little, if any, medical value. Using it is a very good way to get demonized.
psychotropics like LSD & psilocybin have been used with a perhaps surprising effect, in highly controlled circumstances, to cure or at least curb alcoholism & nicotine addiction. being under the influence of heavy psychedelics like these really forces a person to take stock of themselves and what is happening in their lives.

recreational use?? that's crazy.
as you said, they also leave weak minds and ungrounded spirits incredibly vulnerable to suggestion & commandeering.
taking something like peyote is a once-in-a-lifetime reality-shattering experience, that should never be considered without a lot of wisdom and care. not the kind of thing for 'unwinding after a long week of work'
and yet plenty of people do exactly that, and their minds are destroyed & captured through it.
they put a person in a very precarious & inescapably honest mental/spiritual state, which can either be a very good thing or a very bad thing, depending on the path a person takes.

but i do believe everything God created is good, and has its time and its purpose.

here's a more recent study -- back in the 40's-50's when western culture discovered these things there was more work being done, tho with smaller groups. then they were all classified as terribly illegal, and investigation into potential beneficial uses ground to a halt.

i have a personal compassion for hippies and that whole fringe-culture. it is a particular interest of mine. to me they are a fertile field of souls, sincerely looking for spiritual truth and genuine love. a group of alcoholics is generally just interested in forgetfulness & debauchery, but a group of trippers is really seeking something profound, you know?

as the Church, we have what the latter group is looking for, and we hate what the former group seeks.
so since i was a teen i have felt a bit of a calling to reach out and evangelize among them

Study the Bible. End of point.
please don't get yourself banned also over this my friend
i am glad you are here in fellowship with us, and very sad to see that CSM isn't any longer.
i disagreed with him heartily over most of what he wrote in his brief time, but i loved having him here and saw many good qualities
likewise with you, i am thankful you are with us.

Magenta & Dino and the others talking to you here have studied the Bible, and study it well. over and over for many years that has been manifestly witnessed by all of us here in the BDF through their conversations.
the scripture does not put a blanket ban on drinking alcohol. end of point.

you are correct that ubiquitously drunkenness and habitual inebriation is absolutely warned against and condemned. but the scripture never says alcohol in and of itself is evil, and in fact ((as his been pointed out here over and over)) even recommends it in specific situations. those facts have to be balanced.

you are wrong to accuse others of sin for having taken into account the whole counsel of God. those people have looked at the scripture honestly and, fearing God, refused to put themselves in the seat of judgement. and haven't you noticed that every one of them has openly and repeatedly said they themselves do not drink?? you think they are excusing sin? whose sin? if anything at all they are loving mercy, and looking over offense, which is to their glory, not their condemnation. God made the vine, and God made the yeast. we will drink of His wine together in the great wedding feast, at the appointed time, and we will not call our gladness evil on that day.

let me make it clear that i am not recommending anyone eat potato salad!

i myself do not eat potato salad, but do not think it is sinful to eat or prepare potato salad.
it is simply unwise, especially in any amount that could be called copious.
once again just so no one has any kind of wrong impression about my position:

I DO NOT RECOMMEND POTATO SALAD AND I MYSELF ABSTAIN

but i cannot condemn it; i may grimace but i raise no doubtful disputation over it

Alcoholism? Yeah, I know. That's why I don't drink.
Scripture warns against drinking too much? Yeah, I know, as I've repeated numerous times on this thread.
My point was that the problem is the human heart. Saying that alcohol is cunning and baffling is like saying a rock is a genius! C'mon, now!

I remind you again that I don't drink and think the world would be a better place without drinking, but I do not believe that scripture teaches abstinence.
I feel the same way.

I first took L.S.D. in 1971. Windowpane. I fell in love with it. I turned on, tuned in, dropped out. I've tripped hundreds of times. I once took L.S.D. and saw demons for 10 months. It so terrified me that I had a panic attack...for 2 years. It was horrible! I got deliverance!
L.S.D., as well as mescaline, Psilocybin, and a handful of related chemicals, temporarily mess up the serotonin production in the brain. This can cause a chemically-induced schizophrenia, a living nightmare. Some, like me, come back. Some, like Sid Barrett, don't.
I'm well acquainted with L.S.D., Dr. Hoffman, Timothy Leary, the whole movement, as I was part of it. I know all about Lonnie Frisbee and John Wimber. I was trained as a worship leader by the Vineyard.
So I guess you have a personal compassion for me, or at least who I used to be...groovy! :)

I just finished reading a version of the life and times Lonnie Frisbee. What is your opinion of his ministry, and his faith?

God used him. He was used by others because of his anointing, but wasn't valued as a person as he should've been. I guess. I'm not too impressed with anyone, though I think I would've gotten along with Lonnie. I'm impressed with the Lord.

Even if the Bible mentions alcohol, it should be taken for what it is, a drug that can lead to addiction.

Let's get to the root of the problem. Sugar lead to the ethanol fermentation which results in alcohol... therefore sugar is evil.

Sugar comes from cane...or is it Cain?

Thank you. I’ve found that that a lot of broken people go searching, and sometimes stop too soon, to be content with a portion, when there is so much more.
