On the list of end-time events, nothing has to happen before Jesus snatches His people from the face of the earth. That means the rapture could happen many years from now, or any second now. The Bible calls it our “blessed hope.” Titus 2:13 says, “Looking for the blessed hope and glorious appearing of our great God and Savior Jesus Christ.” [NKJV]

Notice that we are not looking for the appearing of Antichrist, but of Jesus Christ. A lot of Christians now believe that Antichrist must appear before the rapture. They base this on 2 Thessalonians 2:1-3.

“Now we request you, brethren, with regard to the coming of our Lord Jesus Christ, and our gathering together to Him, that you may not be quickly shaken from your composure or be disturbed either by a spirit or a message or a letter as if from us, to the effect that the day of the Lord has come. Let no one in any way deceive you, for it will not come unless the apostasy comes first, and the man of lawlessness is revealed, the son of destruction.” [NASB]

People often confuse “the day of the Lord” and “the rapture.” A study of the day of the Lord in both the New and Old Testaments shows that it is not a single day, but an epoch. It begins at the beginning of the seven years of tribulation (also known as “Daniel’s Seventieth Week”). It ends at the end of the millennium. But the rapture happens before the day of the Lord.

Paul taught the Thessalonian Christians about a pretribulation rapture and about the day of the Lord. Sometime after he left, a group began teaching that the day of the Lord had begun. To the Thessalonians, this meant they had missed the rapture — a notion that shook them to the core.

Paul tells them to remember what he taught them about the day of the Lord. Daniel 9:27 says that the tribulation (“Daniel’s Seventieth Week”) begins when “the prince who is to come” (Antichrist) makes a treaty with Israel. Before Antichrist can make such a significant treaty, he will obviously have to arrive on the world scene. So, before the tribulation can begin, Antichrist must have risen to a high level of power and prominence, probably as leader of the European Union or its successor.

He cannot rise to such a position now because Satan’s work on earth is being restrained. Paul went on to write, “Do you not remember that while I was still with you, I was telling you these things? And you know what restrains him now, so that in his time he may be revealed. For the mystery of lawlessness is already at work; only he who now restrains will do so until he is taken out of the way. And then that lawless one will be revealed whom the Lord will slay with the breath of His mouth and bring to an end by the appearance of His coming.” [2 Thessalonians 2:5-8, NASB]

The restrainer is the Holy Spirit working through the Church. At the rapture, that restraint on Satan will be taken out of the way. The teaching here is clear. The day of the Lord cannot begin until the rise of Antichrist, and Antichrist cannot rise until the Church has been taken out of the way. Therefore, the rapture must take place before the tribulation.

People who believe that the Antichrist must appear before the rapture face a conundrum. Instead of looking for the appearing of Christ, they must look for the appearing of Antichrist. But as we just read in Titus 2:13, we are to be “Looking for the blessed hope and glorious appearing of our great God and Savior Jesus Christ.”

In other words, we are looking for life, not death; love, not hate; and so, we look forward with joy rather than despair.

I have read some of Hal lindseys books, I considered Hal a christian who never grew in his understanding and giving false hope to many.

The restrainer who he and many others consider the Holy Spirit to be the restrainer; I do not, but the church. IMO the Holy Spirit could never be removed for all things exist thru the Spirit.

He makes the Day of the Lord longer than 1000 years, which I disagree with. The Day of the Lord cannot come till this antichrist takes his seat in the temple of God.

"peace man, not war".

I don't know whether the rapture is pre-trib, post-trib, mid-trib, or 9/16 trib- but I'm not gonna sit around and wait for foot-soldiers to show up at my door, or for the mailman to bring me a letter that says "You're scheduled to come get your mark o' the beast next Saturday".

I look for the Lord Jesus' return, but it makes no difference to me whether I'm transformed in a rapture or resurrected out of a pile of bones; so these feel-good messages of pre-trib raptures don't move me. The Son of Perdition doesn't have to show up for the church to suffer persecution because the spirit of Anti-Christ has been here for thousands of years. If some jihadist catches you tomorrow, are you going to be thinking "man, I'm glad the rapture is coming before the tribulation" while he is sawing your head off? Who is really in the conundrum?

Situational awareness isn't "hate", it's not "fear", it's not "death" or "despair". Trusting in God doesn't mean you're not allowed to use the brain he gave you. "You're looking for the Anti-christ instead of Jesus!!!" that you hear from so many pre-trib preachers is cheap emotional garbage that sounds like it started with an angry unbelieving culturally-christian housewife that wanted her husband to stop doing bible study and take her shopping. it's not sound rationale.

I wonder what the hard pre-trib believers are gonna do when they find out their preachers' interpretation of 2thess2 was wrong; they'll probably be the ones that start doubting everything and are falling away when Jesus doesn't come save them on their timetable.

Hal Lindsay's a false prophet. He predicted the return of Jesus before 1988. Guess what? No return of Jesus before 1988. Big surprise.

He's another "prophet" who make his living selling books with "shocking revelations!"

You know what's strange? The only people I ever find criticizing Hal Lindsey and quoting disreputable sources are other Christians with scriptural axes to grind....

I graduated high school in 84, and joined the military in 86. If Hal said the rapture was going to happen in 88 the how did I miss it?

I sure wish you "hateful and argumentative" Christians would provide a quote...

The American republic was built on the “self-evident” truth “that all men are created equal, that they are endowed by their Creator with certain unalienable Rights.” Take the words “created” and “Creator” from that sentence, and it becomes nonsense.

It is nonsense to say, “all men are equal.” We are not born with equal levels of intelligence, athletic ability, or good looks. We are born to different kinds of parents and into different circumstances including various levels of wealth or poverty. But add the word “created” and it makes sense. We are created with equal value before God—each one made with His image stamped into our very being (Genesis 1:26).

Our nation’s founders were steeped in these beliefs. That’s why they wrote a constitution which protects even the vilest criminal from “cruel and unusual punishment.” In our system, searches and seizures are to be sanctioned by a court of law after careful assessment of “probable cause.” The Constitution insists that the accused receive a public trial before an impartial jury. All human beings are due this kind of respect because each carries innate value before God.

It’s all built on the words “created” and “Creator.” Our country was founded on a theological idea. We have a Creator. We have standing in the universe. Remove God from our country, and you remove the intellectual and spiritual underpinnings of democracy itself.

The new atheism sweeping our land is intent on removing God’s name and His standards from our institutions, philosophies, and entertainments. Those who propagate such notions do so in the name of freedom. But real freedom requires a foundation. To remove freedom’s foundation means the eventual destruction of freedom itself.

And that’s what’s happening. The super-elites have lost trust in the common folk, and therefore in democracy itself. They have always tried to put their thumb on democracy’s scale. But in the past, they focused their power and influence on promoting their own ideas. Today they increasingly use their power to crush dissent and end debate.

“We the people” still have our ballots, but ballots mean little without the free flow of information. In our system of government, free speech is not a luxury but an absolute necessity. Democracy only works when people are trusted to sort through the noise and find the truth.

It’s a messy form of government. No doubt about that. In a perfect world, the people would be governed by a perfect Person — perfect in love, perfect in wisdom, perfect in justice, and perfect in every other way. That Person, Jesus, is coming! The Bible says, “The government will be upon His shoulder.”

But until that glad day, we should be thankful for what Lincoln called “government of the people, by the people, for the people.” And we should work and pray that it “not perish from the earth.

Well... it just seems obvious to me that Armageddon is for the wicked.
But even so, God is still merciful and gives them the 144,000.
There's no reason for the true church to be here at that time.

Where does it say "Antichrist"? It says MAN of SIN. THEY of that day were to know who he was. He was their contemporary. Second Thessalonians was written to the THESSALONIANS of THAT day about things that were going to happen to THEM in THEIR day. This is not about us.

op: LOOKING For The LORD JESUS CHRIST?
Yes, enjoyed All These, From HIS Word Of Truth, today!:

Looking, Watching, Waiting For our Blessed Hope, The HOLY ONE:

”...The Coming Of our LORD JESUS CHRIST, and our
gathering together Unto HIM…“ (2 Thessalonians 2:1)

"For I reckon that The Sufferings of this present time are not
worthy to be compared with The Glory which shall be revealed
in us. For the earnest expectation of the creature waiteth for
the manifestation of the sons of God...

...ourselves also, which have the firstfruits of The Spirit, even
we ourselves groan within ourselves, waiting for The Adoption,
to wit, The Redemption Of our body!" (Romans 8:18-19, 23)

"But if we hope for That we see not, then do
we with patience wait for It." (Romans 8:25)

"So that ye come behind in no gift; waiting for The
Coming of our LORD JESUS CHRIST!" (1 Corinthians 1:7)

"...And take the helmet of salvation, and The SWORD of The Spirit,
Which Is The WORD of God: praying always with all prayer and
supplication in the Spirit, and watching thereunto with all
perseverance and supplication for all saints…" (Ephesians 6:12-18)

"For our conversation [
citizenship] is in Heaven; from whence also we
look for The Saviour, The LORD JESUS CHRIST!" (Philippians 3:20)

"...ye also have A Master in Heaven. Continue in prayer, and
watch in the same with thanksgiving; withal praying also for
us, that God would open unto us a door of utterance, to speak
The Mystery Of CHRIST…" (Colossians 4:1-3)

“And to wait for His SON from Heaven, Whom He Raised from the
dead, even JESUS, Which Delivered us from the wrath to come!"

(1 Thessalonians 1:10)

“Ye are all the children of light, and the children of the day: we are
not of the night, nor of darkness. Therefore let us not sleep, as
do others; but let us watch and be sober. For they that sleep, sleep
in the night; and they that be drunken are drunken in the night.

But let us, who are of the day, be sober, putting on the breastplate
of faith and love; and for a helmet, The Hope of Salvation. For God
Hath not Appointed us to wrath, but to obtain Salvation By our
LORD JESUS CHRIST, Who Died for us, that, whether we wake or
sleep, we Should Live Together With HIM! Wherefore comfort
yourselves together and edify one another, even as also ye do.”
(1 Thessalonians 5:5-11)

“LOOKING for That Blessed Hope, and The Glorious Appearing
of THE Great God and our Saviour JESUS CHRIST!” ( Titus 2:13)

Amen?
