We all need to get better at agreeing to disagree without being disagreeable on non-salvation issues. To bless and not curse.
Don't we?
I did read your entire post but would like to address this part at the moment

I think the devil would like everyone to stop praying in tongues, but he is probably fine with the way that gift is used in certain churches

there is the reality and truth and then there is the fake as the op mentioned in her first post

the gifts, none of them, are for the personal aggrandizement of the individual but for the building up of the 'church', those in Christ. I'm sure you know this.

some time back, someone was going on and on about the word 'edification' as applies to praying in tongues edifying a believer. they insisted that meant the person was using that gift for their own self...regardless of the fact that scripture reveals more than one type of tongue and praying in the Spirit is not speaking in church.

I pray I'm someday worthy of tongues if it's God's will. I've never felt it. Perhaps I've not been open enough.
Hey ..is not what anyone says here its what He said. What did you do when you read heard John 3:16-17? Ok now read Luke 11 13. Has to be with faith. That means your read what Christ said..you do what He said and never give never it a second thought. Well because you KNOW if He said it.. you never have to wonder doubt.. He said ask and how much more will our heavenly Father give the holy Spirit to them that ask. You ask? You will get it. You don't wait to see hear feel anything.. you praise Him for what He already did. See He can not lie.. EVER. You ARE worthy because you believe in Jesus Christ. Its not what you did or will do its what HE already did. See yourself as He does.. if you will wonder.. then just ask Him to show you how HE sees you.. He will.

I asked for the sweet holy Spirit when I was saved. You can be saved and not be filled. They even asked people.. have you received since you believed. Christ told them when they were all saved.... to wait for the promise.. its in Acts. For me.. right after tongues just came out.. I didn't try nor thinking....

I meant not all posts. I meant the one i quotet in my last post. Thank you!

Yes the Holy Spirit leads to the truth!
According millions of oneness pentecostals Christians which do not speaking in tongues are not saved. Millions of RCC believers claimes to be baptised with the Holy Spirit and speakingbin tongues, but believing all the RCC doctrines.
Would you say that the Holy Spirit supports false teachings?
We are talking here about speaking in tongues. Right!
But the teaching about it supports not what the bible teaches.

According 1.Cor. 12-14 is speaking a tongues a gift like any other mentioned gift, too.
A gift which not all receive, according 1. Cor. 12,30.
And it is in the church not depend from a second baptism or an special Level of spiritual life.
It was given, like the other gifts when someone was bornagain and received the Holy Spirit.
The events which mentioned in Acts 2,8,10 and 19 have nothing to do with the speaking in tongues which we find in 1. COR .
Those events were made for to show that Jesus came for all mankind and not only for an special nation or group of people.

According what we learn in 1. COR. the gift of speaking in tongues should be normal in every Christian group/church. ( not for all believers) through the whole churchhistory.

But the fact is, that however, it seems to end in the first centurys after the apostolic time. Except out of in cults, or in combination with gospel messages speaking in tongues occur not in the churches.
For example in australia speaking in tongues began after an woman ( i have not the name now) came in contact with the azusastreet movement and spread it then in australia
In germany the azusa movement came in 1906. Before this tongues where not practised according 1. COR. in the churches.
At for shure not, as it was taught in azusa.

If speaking in tongues would be normal given as gift today for the worldwide church. Then we would have this without azusa movement or all this charismatic movements
normaly in the church and would not discuss about this issue.

And again, I am believing that the Holy Spirit works today in many ways to open the hearts of people. And without Him we could not live
as believers.
And I believe also that he can do this throuh giving the gift of speaking in tongues.
For that he is God and can do everything!

But i dont believing the teachings from pentecostals/ charismatics regarding this issue, because I cant find taught this in the bible to other believers.

I know that they base their believing on the scripture. But for that they have to create an own doctrine and must interprete the scripture out of the context and must ignore scripture.

And now you can stone me!
these are basically your opinions and I certainly have read all about them a good many times

this is you saying what you believe and don't believe

Yes the Holy Spirit leads to the truth!
yes He certainly does. does not explain the differences though

But i dont believing the teachings from pentecostals/ charismatics regarding this issue, because I cant find taught this in the bible to other believers.

I doubt you are cognizant of all churches everywhere and all Pentecostals or Charismatics. you manage to lump everyone together and declare you don't believe.

frankly, none of that stops God from answering those who believe what is in scripture anymore than God stops you from having determined you don't believe in what those particular members of Christ's body practice or teach

Hey anyone that doesn't want THEIR blessing ask God to give me a double portion!
What do you believe that a person receives when they are born again? Just to be clear myself - Obviously eternal life - And clearly Christ by the Holy Spirit - Christ in you the hope of glory - So the means to be taught of the Holy Spirit - by revealing Christ who is our Salvation. Is there any comfort in that? Does being born again of the Spirit of God - The Holy Spirit - not necessarily mean that the one who comes to a living faith also has the Holy Spirit? So I ask my first question in that meaning.

By all means may you receive a double portion - but it cannot be a double portion of Christ by the Holy Spirit - It can only be Christ by the Holy Spirit. So I guess I would also ask what portion do you mean when you say, "Hey anyone that doesn't want THEIR blessing ask God to give me a double portion!"

Thank you

The Holy Spirit is truly a part of the God head and I believe we receive him at our new birth.

There is however more to the Spirit working in us.
Jesus said he would give us POWER by this indwelling.
Each part of God test our Faith, acceptance and belief of his word.

We see the father part as Supreme, the Son as our Saviour, and the Holy Ghost is our POWER.

Elisah asked for a DOUBLE portion if and when he saw Elijah leave the earth.

God is no respecter of persons, he has held the sun still, added 15 years to a life, raised the dead, healed the sick all by Faith and the power of the Spirit.

Thanks for blessing that I get a double portion!

It is a well know fact that the word "tongues" is "languages"

G1100 = glōssa = Of uncertain affinity; the tongue; by implication a language....

Act 2:3 And there appeared unto them cloven tongues like as of fire, and it sat upon each of them.
Act 2:4 And they were all filled with the Holy Ghost, and began to speak with other tongues (glōssa), as the Spirit gave them utterance.
Act 2:5 And there were dwelling at Jerusalem Jews, devout men, out of every nation under heaven.
Act 2:6 Now when this was noised abroad, the multitude came together, and were confounded, because that every man heard them speak in his own language.
Act 2:7 And they were all amazed and marvelled, saying one to another, Behold, are not all these which speak Galilaeans?
Act 2:8 And how hear we every man in our own tongue (glōssa), wherein we were born?

Why do i need to speak in a mysterious language to speak to God? God understands all languages and the Holy Spirit can interpret all languages into the Heavenly language. Why not just speak in the language we can understand?

Maybe you are saying bad things about God and blaspheming His name? You would not know if you do not know what you are saying.

1Co 14:6 Now, brethren, if I come unto you speaking with tongues(glōssa) , what shall I profit you, except I shall speak to you either by revelation, or by knowledge, or by prophesying, or by doctrine?
1Co 14:7 And even things without life giving sound, whether pipe or harp, except they give a distinction in the sounds, how shall it be known what is piped or harped?
1Co 14:8 For if the trumpet give an uncertain sound, who shall prepare himself to the battle?
1Co 14:9 So likewise ye, except ye utter by the tongue(glōssa) words easy to be understood, how shall it be known what is spoken? for ye shall speak into the air.
1Co 14:18 I thank my God, I speak with tongues(glōssa) more than ye all:
1Co 14:19 Yet in the church I had rather speak five words with my understanding, that by my voice I might teach others also, than ten thousand words in an unknown tongue(glōssa).
we know from the word of God tongues in 1cor chapter though 14 and Act 2 are languages from the Holy Spirit and not learned

I used to be part of a small fellowship...perhaps a hundred people. Repentant ex-pedophile to licensed psychologist...recovering addict to police officer...we loved and accepted everyone, just like Jesus does. We did to the least...
For three years, I and pretty well everyone else experienced the presence of God constantly. I called it living in the holy zone. We had our own home groups and met together on Sundays. We were family. They were the best years of my life. Then the split happened.
Twenty-four years ago today I left. Two years later, the fellowship folded. I haven't been able to find another place where I fit. Though I've tried.
It wasn't until two years later that I received the gift of tongues.

I praise God that he reveals the inexorable valuable of "what actually happens"

Jesus said...
"Believest thou not that I am in the Father, and the Father in me? the words that I speak unto you I speak not of myself: but the Father that dwelleth in me, he doeth the works. [11] Believe me that I am in the Father, and the Father in me: or else believe me for the very works' sake." - John 14:10-11 KJV

Part of what that means is " Hey, if you can't see it by the word itself, learn the lesson from the evidence that God provides."

When people are seeking God today ... whether taught or clueless about tongues... and God provides an outpouring.... What do ALL report receiving? Is it other earthly languages? NO. Is it the kind of tongues that is NOT understood by man, but is understood by God? YES.

Praise God and THANK-YOU Jesus! \o/

That's also why the book of Acts is so valuable and why so many try to delegate it to the past... just as the scriptures tell us they will, saying:
"Knowing this first, that there shall come in the last days scoffers, walking after their own lusts, [4] And saying, Where is the promise of his coming? for since the fathers fell asleep, all things continue as they were from the beginning of the creation." - 2 Peter 3:3-4 KJV

Sophie, I just told the reason why I dont believe this teachings as you are telling why you are believing this. So I must not repeat them.

There is no much different in all the teachings of pentecostal and charismatics in the matter with the baptism of the Holy Spirit and as proof/ sign of this the gift of speaking in tongues. Because this is the main teaching which discern them from all other Christians.
Today, of course you can find pentecostal/charismatic teachings in almost all denominations.

Finaly, not our thoughts are important, but what the Lord says.

I got, and I hold it not for an Illusion, when I turned to Christ the gift of discern the Spirits.
It dedectet when I came in Touch with sects and false teachings. And the same is with this pentecostal/charismatic teachings. What should I do? Ignore it?
Should I change my mind because the most Christians believe this teachings?

Some are, yes. Some people don't want what the Spirit has to offer. Some know little, if anything about it because their leaders teach nothing about it (even though the bible does). Some (like I did) might struggle with how it will happen, how does it manifest, how do you get it, etc.

People struggle in different ways, but the Holy Ghost today is the same Holy Ghost of the book of Acts, Romans, 1 Corinthians, etc. God hasn't lost effectiveness, and people haven't lost their need for edification, healings, prophecies, teachings, preachings, helps, etc.

As has been told in this and other threads, there are many occasions where a group of disciples start seeking God and the Holy Ghost gets poured out on them just like he did on the day of Pentecost and they start speaking in tongues. Other people receive it when they come up out of the water of baptism. Others receive it at the laying on of hands. I've seen it happen in both of the latter two methods repeatedly. It's still available JUST like it was in Acts. Some just don't want to believe it no matter how many witnesses there are.

"Beware therefore, lest that come upon you, which is spoken of in the prophets; [41] Behold, ye despisers, and wonder, and perish: for I work a work in your days, a work which ye shall in no wise believe, though a man declare it unto you." - Acts 13:40-41 KJV

Love in Jesus,
Kelby
Getting the Holy Spirit, and the gifts, has nothing to do with teaching it. The Holy Spirit reveals the truth to the believer in reading the word of God.
We have so much denominations and diffrent teachings because of man made teachings. And these teachings became more important as the word of God.

John c16-v13-14
13However, when the Spirit of truth comes, He will guide you into all truth. For He will not speak on His own, but He will speak what He hears, and He will declare to you what is to come. 14He will glorify Me by taking from what is Mine and disclosing it to you. 15Everything that belongs to the Father is Mine. That is why I said that the Spirit will take from what is Mine and disclose it to you.

seems every 2nd Christian has the gift of discernment and it fits in so snugly with their own perceptions or accusations

you should only change your mind regarding the truth in scripture...but it seems that is dependent on understanding

well that's simply not true

God Himself anoints some to be teachers, granted there are far too many running around thinking they have that gift while railing against a few others

sure we have too many denoms etc and probably a few more being formed while I type this. that is known as an excuse rather than a reason.

a person believing they do not need any other person to teach them and they only need the Holy Spirit, is prone to error and deception

but I'm not holding my breath you will accept that

you make a very good point, but on a chat site that is not a church where many here lambast church and pastors/teachers from their own bad experiences or hold to the position from a bias they have.

You will see many here who say you do not have to go to church or pray. They don't need a pastor " the Holy Spirit will teach me" yet Christ as the word of God says in eph 4:11-16

11 And He Himself gave(Christ) some to be apostles, some prophets, some evangelists, and some pastors and teachers, 12 for the equipping of the saints for the work of ministry, for the edifying of the body of Christ,(HIS Body) 13 till we all come to the unity of the faith and of the knowledge of the Son of God, to a perfect man, to the measure of the stature of the fullness of Christ; 14 that we should no longer be children, tossed to and fro and carried about with every wind of doctrine, by the trickery of men, in the cunning craftiness of deceitful plotting, 15 but, speaking the truth in love, may grow up in all things into Him who is the head—Christ— 16 from whom the whole body, joined and knit together by what every joint supplies, according to the effective working by which every part does its share, causes growth of the body for the edifying of itself in love.

So you would say the Holy Spirit leads to false believe?
It is an different if someone claims that God has revealed him something or God have revealed him something. If we are deceived from ourself or false spirits of course we will lead in a false way and false teachings and false conclusions.
This is a very Personal thing, which can only be proofed from the scripture.
I do not believe that the Holy Spirit leads in untruth

Of course i agree with you, if I only think that I got the gift of discernment, but in reality i dident got it, i make only worthless noise.

I did not asked for this gift. But I found that I could discern which teaching is from God and which not. So how else I should call it?

About the denominations. There is no Single denomination which is 100% right in their teachings.
Otherwise this denomination could say: we are right and all others are wrong. As the RCC is claiming.
But as I learned today it is no problem for the Pope to bulid an partnership with Moslems.

some here think it has to be the way they see it because they think that is what the word of God says from the bais they have.

Of Course, the Holy Spirit would never lead us into false things of the word, does that mean one's understanding can not be wrong?

Or because one has taken it personally from whatever reason now see all as false. was Baalim false of became that way? Was Judas a devil or does the word of God say He entered into them?

The Holy Spirit leads us into all truth that Truth is the Lord Jesus Christ. The empowering of the Holy Spirit is for only one thing most do not even know what that is but think the gifts and signs and wonders are not for today because they have not seen them, nor do they even want to, But signs and wonders today are needed and the word of God says they do something.

Jesus even said believe in me because of the works that I do. John 10:38

so now let me ask...does your gift of discernment tell you to change what I said?

as for the rest of your post, I'm not going to bother because you are not being honest
