According to Gen 1:4-5, Gen 1:14. Gen 1:16, Gen 1:17-18; days on earth
normally begin with sunrise, and nights normally begin with sunset.

In other words: according to those passages; Day is when the sun is up and
Night is when the sun is down.

It's handy to know that the Hebrew word for "day" is ambiguous. It can indicate
twelve hours, twenty-four hours, and/or a period of indeterminate length. For
example, the entire creation endeavor is described as one day at Gen 2:4

NOTE: When attempting to construct a chronology for Jesus' crucifixion and
resurrection; it's best to work with the definitions of Day and Night that he
himself gave at John 11:9-10. The reason I say so is because he actually
lived in the land of Israel during the gospels and would certainly know better
than any of us 2,000 years removed, in a very different culture, how best to
interpret the three days and the three nights of Matt 12:40.

How could there be light created on the first day when it wasn't until the fourth day?

The Hebrew word for light in the first day is "or" and means all goodness. The Hebrew word for the light on the fourth day in "maor" and means light giver.
Look at the Gospel of John...the first chapter explains it. (Jesus is the light)

And John is also quoted as saying that Jesus was crucified before the foundations of the Earth were put in place...
Maybe that was what God was doing instead of creating photons. (The stuff light is made from)

The creation of light was a complex process. First God had to create
particulate matter, and along with those particles their specific properties,
including mass; if any. In other words: according to Gen 1:1-2 every ounce
of matter that went into the creation of the cosmos was created prior to the
creation of light.

Then He had to invent the laws of nature to govern how matter behaves in
combination with and/or in the presence of, other kinds of matter in order to
generate electromagnetic radiation.

Light's properties are curious. It propagates as waves in a variety of lengths
and frequencies, and also as quantum bits called photons. And though light
has no mass; it's influenced by gravity. Light is also quite invisible to the
naked eye. For example: you can see the Sun when you look at it, and you
can see the Moon when sunlight reflects from its surface. But none of the
Sun's light is visible to you in the void between them and that's because
light isn't matter; it's energy; and there is really a lot of it.

Space was at one time thought to contain absolutely nothing until radio
astronomers discovered something called cosmic microwave background. In
a nutshell: CMB fills the universe with light that apparently radiates from no
detectable source. The popular notion is that CMB is energy left over from
the Big Bang.

The same laws that make it possible for matter to generate electromagnetic
radiation also make other conditions possible too; e.g. fire, wind, water, ice,
soil, rain, life, centrifugal force, thermodynamics, fusion, dark energy,
gravity, atoms, organic molecules, magnetism, inertia, momentum, color,
radiation, refraction, reflection, high energy X-rays and gamma rays,
temperature, pressure, force, sound, friction, and electricity; et al. So the
creation of light was a pretty big deal; yet Genesis scarcely gives it passing
mention. That's no doubt because Genesis is mostly about origins rather
than mechanics.

2Cor 4:6 verifies that light wasn't introduced into the cosmos from outside in
order to dispel the darkness and brighten things up a bit; but rather, it
radiated out of the cosmos from inside-- from itself --indicating that the
cosmos was created to be self-illuminating by means of the various
interactions of the matter that God made for it; including, but not limited to,
the Higgs Boson.

Gen 1:4a . . And God saw the light, that it was good

God didn't see the light until He said let there be light; meaning of course
that natural light didn't exist until God made it.

NOTE: It's curious to me that most Bible students have no trouble readily
conceding that everything else in the first chapter of Genesis is natural, e.g.
the cosmos, the earth, the atmosphere, water, dry land, the Sun, the Moon,
the stars, aqua life, winged life, terra life, flora life, and human life.

But when it comes to light they choke; finding it impossible within
themselves to believe that Genesis just might be consistent in its description
of the creative process. I mean, if all those other things are natural, why
wouldn't light in the cosmos be natural too? In point of fact, without natural
light, planet Earth would become a cold dead world right quick.

Now this whole "evening and morning" thingy...

Because we don't speak Hebrew fluently anymore we don't recognize the poetry. This portion (as well as the rest of the Torah) is sung in Synagogues to this day. Of course the Jews argue about the tempo and key and melody line but meh...that's just them.

But it's obvious poetry because you can say even more with poetry than you can with thousands of words.

The very first line of Genesis is not a complete sentence...
"bara" is the root verb for "made" but it's something like a preposition in that it demands a material for things to be made from for proper sentence construction. You can bara a wooden table, a marble table, a steel table but you can't just make a table...it needs a description of the material used to identify it. (Hebrew is a highly metaphoric language but it has some definite rules)

So when God made the Heavens and the Earth there's no material mentioned...not even the word "nothing" that someone turns into something...

So...all that to say that this is highly metaphoric poetry...it is not a manual or cliff note version on how God created the universe.

Meaning that the evening and morning frame the night and not a 24 hour period of time that we consider a day... never have considered the night to be a day...at best only half of one. And night is when you do things that you want to keep secret.

However....
Evening in Hebrew is synonymous with "chaos".
The word for "morning" in Hebrew is synonymous with "order/clarity".

Meaning that God created order out of chaos.

And THAT is what the poetry really means.

Was the universe created in 6-24 hour periods of time?
I have absolutely no clue or idea. Nor does the scriptures reveal that exactly either. It absolutely doesn't say...never intended to say that or tell us anything about how much time God spent on building the universe. It says a lot that is important that people miss just to create chaos with arguments.

So...let's have peace.

It's tragic that Carl Sagan went to his grave with his curiosity and so many
scientific questions about the cosmos unanswered, and to top it off, a day is
coming when even Carl's pale blue dot will no longer be available for study.

"And I saw a new heaven and a new earth: for the first heaven and the first
earth were passed away." (Rev 21:1)

Can you imagine how delighted Carl would've been to explore Heaven's
libraries where everything to know that can be known about the cosmos is
stored? But alas, Carl will never find out because he was at best an agnostic,
at worst an atheist.

I choose to live in hope and accept the just judgment of the Righteous Judge over all the Earth.

I think there's a reason one's life "flashes before their eyes" in traumatic situations. Perhaps it is a mercy of God reminding that person of things they have forgotten and need to remember. I do believe that deathbed repentance and salvation can occur.

Perhaps something heard or remembered from childhood Sunday school or church could lead to Christ in life's last moments. I hope so. We may be surprised at who we meet in Paradise... and who we do not.

They must have been, from the Biblical context. HOW did the wise men know the signs they were seeing in the heavens as relating to Christ's birth. Somehow, they DID and the Bible calls them WISE men! They aren't ever condemned for practicing some forbidden or immoral science.

I think a lot of astrology today though has been tainted with superstition and paganism. Sadly it's hard to know exactly how much falsehood is mixed into it today. For that reason I'm very cautious. I don't want to embrace vain superstitions unknowingly or be a stumbingblock to someone who has gotten mixed up in the Satanic occult before.

But most scholars think - to illustrate your point - that the Zodiac isn't mystical but practical and that it existed pre-Flood and was handed down by Noah to his descendants, because virtually all ancient peoples with any techological advancement at all had a Zodiac of their own. I also wonder if it served not only to help teach the constellations (which would have been used for navigation and time telling) but also to pass down actual historic events or other allegorical truths based on commonalities between the Zodiac of different cultures. And the Bible mentions some of the constellations of the Zodiac.

I sometimes feel overwhelmed at all the things I'd like to figure out how to know and understand. Hehe, life, right? ;)
What do you mean they had a Zodiac of their own? Orion :D. It all seems to indicate that it was a part of their culture and not only them but throughout ancient civilizations. I searched some online and some old ones look pretty and hard to understand.

Oh and I wish I knew everything there is to know :cautious:

“And we know that we are of God, and the whole world lieth in wickedness.”
‭‭1 John‬ ‭5:19‬ ‭KJV‬‬

yes I do also it’s a place of extreme sorrow if one is looking to God. We can see how far creation has fallen away from him .

Timing , Well the thing is no one knows but it’s a good thing that he’s giving his forebearance to us

he’s allowing the world to go on even though it’s wicked and sad like that because he doesn’t want us to perish he wants as many as Will believe to come to repentance and be saved

“The Lord is not slack concerning his promise, as some men count slackness; but is longsuffering to us-ward, not willing that any should perish, but that all should come to repentance.

But the day of the Lord will come as a thief in the night; in the which the heavens shall pass away with a great noise, and the elements shall melt with fervent heat, the earth also and the works that are therein shall be burned up.

(but this is where our Hope and joy is found )

Nevertheless we, according to his promise, look for new heavens and a new earth, wherein dwelleth righteousness.”
‭‭2 Peter‬ ‭3:9-10, 13‬ ‭KJV‬‬

one day those sad tears and sorrow , the goodbyes we go through when someone dies all the evil will be destroyed and there will only remain the lords kingdom which he has offered To us

We have this promise we can surely depend on

“And I saw a new heaven and a new earth: for the first heaven and the first earth were passed away; and there was no more sea.

And I heard a great voice out of heaven saying, Behold, the tabernacle of God is with men, and he will dwell with them, and they shall be his people, and God himself shall be with them, and be their God.

And God shall wipe away all tears from their eyes; and there shall be no more death, neither sorrow, nor crying, neither shall there be any more pain: for the former things are passed away.

And he that sat upon the throne said, Behold, I make all things new. And he said unto me, Write: for these words are true and faithful.”
‭‭Revelation‬ ‭21:1, 3-5‬ ‭KJV‬‬

It’s our inheritance when this world crumbles away the promises of Christ will remain

this world is like we’re on a journey towards home we see the light far away sometimes we drop Into valleys , other times we stand on peaks sometimes there are wolves that surround us other times we stand in a group of shepherds

but it’s all temporary , the things of the gospel will Last and his reality will soon come to pass

Heaven and earth shall pass away, but my words shall not pass away.”
‭‭Matthew‬ ‭24:35‬ ‭

Jesus makes a lot of promises to his disciples we often speak of the good news but it begins with believing the gospel

“Verily, verily, I say unto you, He that heareth my word, and believeth on him that sent me, hath everlasting life, and shall not come into condemnation; but is passed from death unto life.”
‭‭John‬ ‭5:24‬ ‭KJV‬‬

There’s no better news than we have been delivered from the chains of death and have a home with the Lord waiting one day the sorrow will be washed away and we will stand somewhere in glory singing worthy is the lamb who was slain !!! And the tears and reasons for sorrow will Be forgotten as we gaze at the face of the lord !!!

I'm looking forward to that day :(

“In the beginning God created the heaven and the earth. And the earth was without form, and void; and darkness was upon the face of the deep. And the Spirit of God moved upon the face of the waters. And God said, Let there be light: and there was light. And God saw the light, that it was good: and God divided the light from the darkness. And God called the light Day, and the darkness he called Night

. And the evening and the morning were the first day.”

What do you mean the light created the first day? Also did light come out within the darkness? and Is the light in verse three referring to Jesus like how Eve came out of Adam?

It's funny how the Bible relates the story of creation in a few verses yet there are so many details that went into creation although the Bible does say the the world was spoken into existence so lol maybe it was that simple. Sigh

What do you mean the light created the first day? did light come out within the darkness? and Is the light in verse three referring to Jesus like how Eve came out of Adam?
“What do you mean the light created the first day?”

“This then is the message which we have heard of him, and declare unto you, that God is light, and in him is no darkness at all.”
‭‭1 John‬ ‭1:5‬ ‭KJV‬‬

“Then spake Jesus again unto them, saying, I am the light of the world: he that followeth me shall not walk in darkness, but shall have the light of life.”
‭‭John‬ ‭8:12‬ ‭KJV‬‬

“In the beginning was the Word, and the Word was with God, and the Word was God. The same was in the beginning with God. All things were made by him; and without him was not any thing made that was made. In him was life; and the life was the light of men. And the light shineth in darkness; and the darkness comprehended it not.”
‭‭John‬ ‭1:1-5‬ ‭KJV‬‬

“In the beginning God created the heaven and the earth. And God said, Let there be light: and there was light.”
‭‭Genesis‬ ‭1:1, 3‬ ‭KJV‬‬

“And God saw the light, that it was good: and God divided the light from the darkness. And God called the light Day, and the darkness he called Night. And the evening and the morning were the first day.”
‭‭Genesis‬ ‭1:4-5‬ ‭KJV‬‬

“did light come out within the darkness?”

“Through faith we understand that the worlds were framed by the word of God, so that things which are seen were not made of things which do appear.”
‭‭Hebrews‬ ‭11:3‬ ‭KJV‬‬

there was darkness until God spoke

“For God, who commanded the light to shine out of darkness, hath shined in our hearts, to give the light of the knowledge of the glory of God in the face of Jesus Christ.”
‭‭2 Corinthians‬ ‭4:6‬ ‭KJV‬‬

Gods word literally creates whatever he speaks. All he has ever spoken will come to pass just like it always has

“And God said, Let there be light: and there was light.”
‭‭Genesis‬ ‭1:3‬ ‭KJV‬‬

that’s how he creates he speaks things into creation

“And God said, Let the waters under the heaven be gathered together unto one place, and let the dry land appear: and it was so.”
‭‭Genesis‬ ‭1:9‬ ‭KJV‬‬

when you add a man who believes and acts on what he said it’s the same

“And the Lord said unto Moses, Stretch out thine hand toward heaven, that there may be darkness over the land of Egypt, even darkness which may be felt.

And Moses stretched forth his hand toward heaven; and there was a thick darkness in all the land of Egypt three days:”
‭‭Exodus‬ ‭10:21-22‬ ‭KJV‬‬

faith is to know of God says anything it is absolute. Even when regarding transgression like this

“But of the tree of the knowledge of good and evil, thou shalt not eat of it: for in the day that thou eatest thereof thou shalt surely die.”
‭‭Genesis‬ ‭2:17‬ ‭KJV‬‬

they did what he said would cause death and so on Gods time remember a day is as a thousand years.

“But, beloved, be not ignorant of this one thing, that one day is with the Lord as a thousand years, and a thousand years as one day.”
‭‭2 Peter‬ ‭3:8‬ ‭KJV‬‬

And so just as God warned Adam

“And all the days that Adam lived were nine hundred and thirty years: and he died.”
‭‭Genesis‬ ‭5:5‬ ‭KJV‬‬

Satan surprisingly knows whatever God said will be that’s why he wanted them to eat the fruit he knew it would bring death Gods word is always true.

so when you see Christ

“And he arose, and rebuked the wind, and said unto the sea, Peace, be still. And the wind ceased, and there was a great calm.”
‭‭Mark‬ ‭4:39‬ ‭KJV‬‬

“And when he thus had spoken, he cried with a loud voice, Lazarus, come forth. And he that was dead came forth, bound hand and foot with graveclothes: and his face was bound about with a napkin. Jesus saith unto them, Loose him, and let him go.”
‭‭John‬ ‭11:43-44‬ ‭KJV‬‬

it’s the same because he is the light the Lord God the creator whatever Jesus says is forever and always true will always come to pass both good and bad.

faith is when we learn the power and superiority and infallible nature of what God said it creates those who believe in his image

“For God, who commanded the light to shine out of darkness, hath shined in our hearts, to give the light of the knowledge of the glory of God in the face of Jesus Christ.”
‭‭2 Corinthians‬ ‭4:6‬ ‭KJV‬‬

He created all the natural things forst and now he’s redeeming the spiritual things inside of man. The same God who speaks the same word that’s always true and infallible had said this to us

“Verily, verily, I say unto you, He that heareth my word, and believeth on him that sent me, hath everlasting life, and shall not come into condemnation; but is passed from death unto life.”
‭‭John‬ ‭5:24‬ ‭

it’s the same principle as when he said let there be light and light began to shine from darkness ehatever Jesus had to say to mankind is always the same it is faith pure faith inviting us to hear , believe and be saved.

“and Is the light in verse three referring to Jesus like how Eve came out of Adam?”

Eve came from Adam but God created Eve also he took of Adam and created Adam a partner. The rest of mankind were born , not created adam
And Eve through procreation is where man comes from out of them which God created.

and yes Jesus is the original light he is God when he spoke his word the light began to shine creations light created all things God created all things in Christ Jesus who was lot manifest to us until the gospel but always was God the light and creator

Light was created on the first day; the sun was created on the fourth day. ;)
m This has gotten almost funny!

It is a matter of what we think of translations of scripture. Does the translation become the truth of scripture or the original language?

I'm looking forward to that day :(
I sure am also my friend it has consumed all Of my hope and dreams to stand in the glory of my savior who loves me I cannot hardly wait to see his glory shining from the throne and to live beyond the veil of death we look to now in this world

what a glory it will Be and o how the voices of angels and elders and the heavenly must sound echoing off the walls of the kingdom I’m assuming we’ve never heard such Beauty nor imagined such glory that waits for us ahead

all due and all thanks to him who loved us enough even when we weren’t lovable he loved us at our worst and continues loving us to the best we can be !!!

“But God commendeth his love toward us, in that, while we were yet sinners, Christ died for us.

Much more then, being now justified by his blood, we shall be saved from wrath through him.

For if, when we were enemies, we were reconciled to God by the death of his Son, much more, being reconciled, we shall be saved by his life.

And not only so, but we also joy in God through our Lord Jesus Christ, by whom we have now received the atonement.”
‭‭Romans‬ ‭5:8-11‬ ‭KJV‬‬
