cut a hole in the top cover, use a portable drill press, super glue, socket, extender bar together.
Lower the drill into place, flip a switch to turn on the drill, once the engine starts, let go of the down lever
start cutting grass.

I took the rope pull mechanism off my mowers Briggs and Stratton, cut a hole in the cover for access and use my cordless drill and a drill bit to start it. The socket doesn't fit the square one way anti back lash contraption on top, a little duct tape on it takes up the extra space providing the necessary interference to spin it.

Or it may just need a good cussing.

Once a pastor bought a used lawnmower. When he got it home it wouldn't crank so he called up the previous owner to find out what the trick was to starting this thing. The previous owner said, "Ya gotta give it a good cussing."

"Sir I've been a minister of the Gospel for seventeen years. I don't even know how to cuss."

"Keep pulling on that rope. It'll come back to ya!"

What's your take on weed whackers?
A few summers ago, I picked up a weed wacker at a scrap yard for $3. Garage Sales too. Also post want on Free-Cycle and NextDoor.

I saw some at Habitat this year for less than $20. Check businesses near by for the magazine that has 20% coupons. In Brighton Mi you will find the coupon magazine at the car lot next to Habitat.

Look for an old gas edger at a scrap yard and remove the motor there(if it works keep it on there). Bring an extension cord to test motors.
Mount the motor in a down position. Install a small blade and cord.
If the gas Motor works Replace it with a U shaped piece of metal. You may have to extend it in front using fan belt.

If you can turn the motor facing down use

Remove the Cylinder Head.
Clean the inside of the Cylinder with Seaform or gas or alcohol.
Clean or replace the Filter.
replace plug if possible with a hotter burning one with correct gap --- call small engine repair to find out which one.
Use a gauge to check the cranking psi, it starts around 30 to 40 psi.
Add a little to oil

Leaf blower idea:
Take the engine off an old lawn mower and install a Furnace Blower with Housing Assembly on top.

I recently got hold of the type of lights used on baseball fields. I installed it on the back wall of my Garage. Sometimes when working in the Garage, people will turn around in my driveway with brights on. Last night that happened and I turned them on using my dead man's switch. They turned their lights off and waited there until their sight returned.
