Here we get a different story : the Jews go into exile.
According to Daniel 1:3-5, the Babylonian king wants young Jews to come to Babylon, they must be « of the king’s seed, and of the princes...Children in whom was no blemish, but well favoured, and skilful in all wisdom, and cunning in knowledge, and understanding science, and such as had ability in them to stand in the king’s palace ». They will be taught « the tongue of the Chaldeans ».
So they are chosen by human beings and they are wise according to human standards. They will get Babylonian food and be trained for three years before entering the king’s service. Verse 6 mentions four names and in particular Daniel.
They receive Babylonian names. But Daniel doesn’t want to eat and drink like the babylonians.

https://www.biblewise.com/bible_study/questions/what-were-kings-food.php
« While the king's table might have consisted of daily rations of meat, fish, lamb, fowl, honey, barley, dates, wheat, lentils, peas, beans, olives, pomegranates, grapes and pistachios, poorer people subsisted mostly on bread and onions. It seems that Daniel and his friends ate the vegetables, but refused the meat and wine. »

But the man responsible for them is afraid that they would look worse than the other youngsters meaning he would have problems with the king. So Daniel asks for ten days to see if it’s the case. So they get better and healthier. And they also receive knowledge and wisdom from God and additionally daniel receives the ability to understand visions and dreams. When they finally pass a test in front of the Babylonian king, the four Jews appear to be the best. They are ten times better. So Daniel and his comapanions are blessed by God and this in a big extent. So they have everything to be happy and proud of. We are told about their history starting from their youth whereas with Job when he is older.

Thinking of Job's history and Daniel's one, here comes my next choice: Samuel! Guess why? You will find if you read correctly what I say to compare how Job's story and Daniel's one are told! I have pictures in connection with Samuel's story present in my mind!

"From the Hebrew name דָּנִיֵּאל (Daniyyel) meaning "God is my judge", from the roots דִּין (din) meaning "to judge" and אֵל ('el) meaning "God". Daniel was a Hebrew prophet whose story is told in the Book of Daniel in the Old Testament."

[11] Now all these things happened unto them for ensamples: and they are written for our admonition, upon whom the ends of the world are come.

« Noun. ensample (plural ensamples) (archaic) An example; a pattern or model for imitation. »
« Admonition : a firm warning or reprimand. »

Yes, we need to have these good and bad examples in our mind like a light at night so we can follow our path through life!

We are living in Babylon. Our food is the food of Babylon, both in a material and spiritual sense.

There are few foods available to us that are not "improved" by man--our milk and food is homogenized, our meat is not fed natural food, our grains are all changed. Our hormone and immune system is impaired and our spiritual understanding is worldly.

In our news we read of the mansions of the wealthy, not the mansions of the heavens.

Romans 14:17 (KJV) For the kingdom of God is not meat and drink; but righteousness, and peace, and joy in the Holy Ghost.
AS this scripture points out, we are living in the days of the new covenant where God speaks to our hearts directly, not through the earthly commands. We are to see the spiritual in what God gives us in our earth through the eyes of the new covenant.

Yes, but the examples of faithfulness in the so called "Old Testament" are so powerful that not looking at them is a huge loss! That's the difference between speeches of words and speeches of living examples! The fantastic examples of faithfulness of the past will always be alive for those who keep thinking of them to lighten their lives! Faithfulness is something rare in our modern society! But that's what we are told in the Bible and that's what we see today! That's also why such examples are so precious!

Yes and it's better not to see how they produce it and yes our society only speaks about the ones who are successful and rich!

Yes, definitely not what this modern world has to offer, only money and consumption, only physical needs!

If God speaks to your heart directly, I guess you no longer need the Bible, since 'Hey' after all God speaks directly to your heart.

Well, let's read 2 Timothy 3:16:
« All scripture is given by inspiration of God, and is profitable for doctrine, for reproof, for correction, for instruction in righteousness »
Simple, clear, precise!

So straight away at the beginning Daniel shows his strong personality: he is a foreigner and he asks to be able to do according to what he is used to! And to be able tro do that, he proposes a test: the test proves in his favor and in the favor of his companions! Good to them! All the story of Daniel is of the same level, Daniel keeps following the track of God so Daniel and Job, two different stories but same faithfulness!

Speaking about the heart: how does faithfulness goes deep into us? Think about the air which goes deep into our whole body, into our cells! Think about what happens when we breathe CO instead of O2: we die! When we don't drink and eat every day, we start to have problems, especially when we have an active life! And it's the same with faithfulness to God: we need to eat the Bible, to eat what is inside, we need to put it into pieces so we can swallow it so it can reach our brain and our heart! If it doesn't go deep enough, it goes away! Once again think about how Job and daniel act and speak to see how it goes deep into them!

From Chapter one, we know that Daniel developed good habits from the beginning of his life ! Unfortunately, we don’t know anything about Job’s youth : we could have found interesting points to think about and how he could developed such a special relationship with God !

Daniel Chapter 3

Once again, a big episode : the king of Babylon builds a huge statue and asks everybody to worship it if they don’t want to be burn alive in a furnace. In this chapter, we are told about Daniel’s three companions who are brought in front of the king of Babylon : once again he asks them to worship the statue. Their answer is quite clear :
Daniel 3 :16-18 :
« Shadrach, Meshach and Abednego, answered and said to the king, O Nebuchadnezzar, we are not careful to answer thee in this matter. »
« If it be so, our God whom we serve is able to deliver us from the burning fiery furnace, and he will deliver us out of thine hand, O king. »
« But if not, be it known unto thee, O king, that we will not serve thy gods, nor worship the golden image which thou hast set up. »

So the king asks the furnace to heat up at its maximum (seven times hotter than usual). The men who throw Daniel’s companions are killed by the flames of the fire. Then the king of Babylonia starts to be afraid because he sees four men in the furnace instead of three. As a consequence he asks the three men to go out of the furnace and he issues an order so that the people who speak against their God to be killed. Finally he promotes them.

A lot to think about !
