Gods standard of righteousness is and always has been the moral Law, the Ten Commandments. The problem for fallen man is that he can't keep that Law of his own ability. Jesus told the Jews in John 7:19,

"Did not Moses give you the law, and yet none of you keepeth the law? Why go ye about to kill me?"

Man can't save himself by keeping the Laws of God on his own, he needs a Saviour!

At first thought it would seem unreasonable for God to demand that man keep His Law when man can't of his own accord. If man is honest with himself he will admit and know he cannot keep the Law on his own. This brings us to God's plan for man, justification by faith in Jesus Christ.

There are three parts of the Law of Moses, the moral Law -- the Ten Commandments, the civil Law, and the sacrificial Law. The apostle Paul tells us "the Law was our schoolmaster that points us to Christ."

Gal. 3:24-25,

"Wherefore the law was our schoolmaster to bring us unto Christ, that we might be justified by faith.
But after that faith is come, we are no longer under a schoolmaster."

The sacrificial system of the Law is what pointed to Christ, the great sacrifice for mans sins that he can be justified by faith in the sight of God. Those under the Law of Moses were saved NOT by their ability to keep the Law, but by faith in the coming Messiah through the sacrifice of an animal that represented Christ.

This sacrifice began in the Garden of Eden when Adam and Eve fell and was present throughout the entirety of the Old Testament. With Christ hidden in type and shadows in the Old Testament through this sacrifice, He is revealed to us by the Apostles in the New Covenant through the Holy Spirit.

John the Baptist told us, "Behold the Lamb of God that takes away the sin of the world." John is speaking here of the Great Sacrifice that Christ made for man to be justified by faith in Christ's death and resurrection, not by his own merits in keeping the Law, which man cannot do anyway but by faith in Christ.

This brings us to how man keeps the Law in the sight of God! Jesus told us in Matt. 5:17,

"Think not that I am come to destroy the law, or the prophets: I am not come to destroy, but to fulfil."

Christ kept the Law in every aspect for us, He fulfilled the Law which we could not do on our own. Paul tells us why Christ did this for us.

Rom. 8:3-4,

"For what the law could not do, in that it was weak through the flesh, God sending his own Son in the likeness of sinful flesh, and for sin, condemned sin in the flesh:
That the righteousness of the law might be fulfilled in us, who walk not after the flesh, but after the Spirit."

Man cannot keep the righteousness of the Law on his own, so Christ fulfilled the Law for us, in that, by faith in His sacrifice the Holy Spirit will fulfill the righteousness of the Law in us. This is done by faith in Christ and denying the ability of our flesh to do it ourselves.

I would add to this statement what it says in Galatians 2:20,

Gal 2:20, I am crucified with Christ: nevertheless I live; yet not I, but Christ liveth in me: and the life which I now live in the flesh I live by the faith of the Son of God, who loved me, and gave himself for me.

As Christ lives His life in us and through us, the righteousness of the law will be fulfilled in us (Romans 8:4), practically (1 John 3:7, Romans 5:19, Matthew 5:6).

I would add to this statement what it says in Galatians 2:20,

Yes that is what Jesus said to them when He was on the earth and they were still under the law. What happened AFTER He rose...oh PRAISE GOD GLORY TO JESUS! What is righteousness? Its right standing with God. You get righteousness by believing in Jesus christ as its written. Its ALL HIM period. And yes AMEN!

1Jo 3:7, Little children, let no man deceive you: he that doeth righteousness is righteous, even as he is righteous.

Rom 5:19, For as by one man's disobedience many were made sinners, so by the obedience of one shall many be made righteous.

Mat 5:6, Blessed are they which do hunger and thirst after righteousness: for they shall be filled.

Now that Christ has paid the sin debt of man and we are no longer under Law but under Grace, has God changed His mind on the moral Law-- the Ten Commandments? If it was wrong to murder 3,000 years ago, is it still wrong today?

If it was wrong to steal 4,000 years ago is it wrong to steal today?

Paul told us now that Grace has come we do not make void the Law.

The entire Law of Moses pointed to Christ, everything in the Law represented Christ. He came to fulfill that Law in Himself.

Jesus Christ is the fulfillment of the Law, and by faith in Him we are Law-Keepers in the sight of God.

We no longer are bound to the keeping of the Law as was those of past under the Law, but we are called to faith in the only One who has ever kept the Law perfectly. Through that faith in Him the Holy Spirit keeps that Law-keeper status in us.

The Law cannot be made void, it is truth and will stand forever in its standard of God's demands of man.

That demand of God is met by faith in His Son, the Christ!

There is also a practical outworking of the fact that we are law-keepers in His sight.

We have an unshakable identity in Christ...that we are righteous...even when we blow it (Romans 4:5).

The exhortation therefore is, Go and live like your new identity (1 John 3:7, Romans 5:19, Matthew 5:6).

The 10 Commandments/the Moral Laws are the only part of the Laws of the First Covenant that transferred over for the Church when Jesus established the New Covenant, Grace. IMO

They are as meaningful and necessary today as they were when they were given to Israel. God REQUIRES our "moral living."

21 I find then a law, that, when I would do good, evil is present with me.

22 For I delight in the law of God after the inward man:

23 But I see another law in my members, warring against the law of my mind, and bringing me into captivity to the law of sin which is in my members.

Any righteousness that we may think we have would have to come from the Law, which God will not accept.

The righteousness that God will accept is the righteousness of Christ through faith.

It is by faith that the righteousness of the Law is fulfilled in us, not by any works of our own.

Some seem to think there is no righteousness in the Law. Paul tells us in Rom. 8:4 there is righteousness in the Law, but we can't keep that Law in order to obtain the righteousness.

This is where Christ steps in!

Gods standard is NOT the ten commands. He just gave them to prove to us we can’t even keep these ten

gods standard is perfection. Adam sinned and because of it died. His curse was passed to all mankind for that one sin. he did not break one the ten commands. He broke a specific command. But of this tree you shall not eat for in the day you eat during you will die (spiritual death which eventually as a result lead to physical death

the curse of sin was passed from Adam to us. For in Adam all die. But God had to way to show mankind he was sinners because there was no law written in stone.

So he chose Moses. Wrote ten commands in stone. Told his people that must keep all ten and if they fail they are cursed. Then he gave the tabernacle and the most holy place and showed that no one could come close to the presence of God. Only one man was even allowed and in The holy place and for that to happen he had to go through rituals of purification. If he failed in even one area he died instantly. They had to tie a rope to the person in case so they could pull him out if he died

The sacrifice also showed what must happen for us to come to gods presence.

The jews in Jesus day thought they were ok. Cause I’m their mind they obeyed the ten commands. So this aspect of the law failed To lead them to Christ because they did not understand it

The law leads us by

1 exposing our sin
2 showing us how that sin separates
3 shows us the only means of redemption

once again lawyers prove they do

The topic of the Mosiac law has been beat to death here.

We are not Jewish if we are born again even then if your ethnicity is Jew we are all the same under the covenant of grace,all the same!

We live under the commandments of Jesus.
He said to love God with all your soul,mind,strength,and love your neighbor as yourself.
He went on to add a new command to love one another as he loved us. Period

Rightly dividing Gods word is an absolute,if you don't then you are in error and add to yourselves hardship.

You can call it the moral law ( the 10 commandments) but IF you're claiming to obey any of the law ( OT) you must obey all including civil and ceremonial law or you're guilty of all if you fail in one part.

Jesus has mapped out our following of Christ in the whole of the new testament. We live by his grace,grac,grace.

Eph 4:13 Till we all come in the unity of the faith, and of the knowledge of the Son of God, unto a perfect man, unto the measure of the stature of the fulness of Christ:

Rom 10:4 For Christ is the end of the law, with the result that there is righteousness for everyone who believes.

While the letter of the law cannot be perfectly kept from conception into eternity (which is the requirement for those who seek to be justified by the law), the righteousness of the law can be fulfilled in those who have the Spirit by faith (Galatians 3:14, Romans 8:4).

For those who understand that they are not justified by the law but solely through faith in the blood of Jesus Christ, they can moe onward and forward into "obedience to the faith' (Romans 1:5) and "the obedience of faith" (Romans 16:26).

Those who know that they are justified through faith in the blood of Christ, therefore, are not cursed but blessed when they look into the perfect law of liberty and continue therein (James 1:25).

The righteousness of the law is found in perfect obedience.

God sees his blood. Not our obedience.

Your filthy rags will be rejected by God as just that. Filthy rags.

Look to the spirit and stop looking to the law and trying to drag everyone down to self righteousness with you
