Telling unbelievers they will cease to exist is totally ridiculous. Why would they fear that? All their problems will be over if that is true, but it's a lie of Satan. Satan wants our company in Hell with him, "forever and ever".
What's the gospel? Is it fear-based or love-based?

And what problems would end for UNbelievers? You sound like you don't want to get rid of them but want to watch them suffer? That's not really Christ-like.

1 John 4:18
There is no fear in love, but perfect love drives out fear, because fear involves punishment. The one who fears has not been perfected in love.

Are you up to a Bible challenge? The fear and wrath of God VS the love of God?

"The rich man also died"
"being in torments"
"he cried"
"I am tormented in this flame"
"this place of torment"

Luke 16:22-28 (NKJV)
22 The rich man also died and was buried. 23 And being in torments in Hades, he lifted up his eyes and saw Abraham afar off, and Lazarus in his bosom. 24 Then he cried and said, 'Father Abraham, have mercy on me, and send Lazarus that he may dip the tip of his finger in water and cool my tongue; for I am tormented in this flame.' 25 But Abraham said, 'Son, remember that in your lifetime you received your good things, and likewise Lazarus evil things; but now he is comforted and you are tormented. 26 And besides all this, between us and you there is a great gulf fixed, so that those who want to pass from here to you cannot, nor can those from there pass to us.' 27 Then he said, 'I beg you therefore, father, that you would send him to my father's house, 28 for I have five brothers, that he may testify to them, lest they also come to this place of torment.'

Proverbs 1:7 (NKJV)
7 The fear of the LORD is the beginning of knowledge, But fools despise wisdom and instruction.

Get some wisdom!

DB,
I've made this request a bazillion times already--please stop using the same few figurative verses.

"Figurative" is YOUR word, not God's. Stop making this up!
Please shake things up a bit on the ECT side by sharing at the minimum five literal verses from the Old Testament and 5 literal from the New that state eternal conscious torment is the penalty for sin.

We have shared hundreds--hundreds of literal verses that say death / destruction is the punishment for the unbeliever.
You wouldn't be stretching the Truth now would you?

I see your avoiding responding with those literal verses that support ECT...let's just see you go back and count all the Annihilationism verses--I dare you...

What's the gospel? Is it fear-based or love-based?
Revelation 14:6-7 (NKJV)
6 Then I saw another angel flying in the midst of heaven, having the everlasting gospel to preach to those who dwell on the earth--to every nation, tribe, tongue, and people-- 7 saying with a loud voice, "Fear God and give glory to Him, for the hour of His judgment has come; and worship Him who made heaven and earth, the sea and springs of water."
And what problems would end for believers? You sound like you don't want to get rid of them but want to watch them suffer? That's not really Christ-like.
Guess Who said this:

Matthew 25:41-46 (NKJV)
41 Then He will also say to those on the left hand, 'Depart from Me, you cursed, into the everlasting fire prepared for the devil and his angels:
46 And these will go away into everlasting punishment, but the righteous into eternal life."
1 John 4:18

Proverbs 1:7 (NKJV)
7 The fear of the LORD is the beginning of knowledge, But fools despise wisdom and instruction.

Wise up!

OK boys and girls (who happen to be annihilationists)....

What is your take on 1Samuel 28:14-19.......Saul, Samuel, and medium of Endor?

"Why have you disturbed me by bringing me up?"
Then Samuel goes on to ACCURATELY prophesy the fate of Saul

Nope...it's a real word. Jesus even used it. "I have said these things to you in figurative language. "--John 16:25

How do we know it is figurative?Because of all the hundreds of literal verses that state in plain language that the "Punishment for sin is DEATH. " and "the wicked are DESTROYED. "Will be as if they never were."

"….The symbolic language of Revelation engages the reader far more powerfully than it would if its message were stated in literal prose. Some readers find the visions of Revelation so objectionable or frightening that they are eager to seize upon any congenial symbolic or metaphorical interpretation. Others, however, are suspicious of any interpretation of a biblical text that is not literal."

Circular reasoning, from the Latin Circulus in Demonstrando, occurs when the end of an argument comes back to the beginning without having proven itself

A LOT of Churches today are living in a self-invented fantasy world. Anything goes, other than sound Biblical exegesis. Sign of the times IMO.

Isa 30:10

Go ahead and remove this from God's Word. That's exactly what you are doing.

Revelation 20:10 (NKJV)
10 The devil, who deceived them, was cast into the lake of fire and brimstone where the beast and the false prophet are. And they will be tormented day and night forever and ever.

Good luck on Judgment Day!

Revelation 22:19 (NKJV)
19 If anyone takes away from the words of the book of this prophecy, God shall take away his part from the Book of Life, from the holy city, and from the things which are written in this book.

For those who believe Eternal Conscious Torment is the punishment for sin, please share at least 5 literal verses from the Old Testament and 5 literal from the new--that is a minuscule number compared to all the ones from the Annihilation/Conditional Torment side--it shouldn't be too hard, if in fact it's true--I'm sure God would want to make that made perfectly clear! Of course it is terrible news for Jesus, since that would mean He would or is, or will be receiving the same fate.

Important: They must be LITERAL, not figurative. Thank you.

I did answer you with Scripture that you are trying to remove from the Bible.
Here, I'll start it off..."For God so loved the world..." do you know the rest? It's the foundation of our faith. Everything else written branches off this truth.

ALL the verses you have shared are FIGURATIVE. You said, "You still can't prove that death means "cease to exist" because it doesn't.

You're kidding right?
So how exactly are you able to read anything if words don't mean what they mean. If you ask any doctor any EMT, any mortician they will all tell you the SAME THING:

DEAD means they are NOT ALIVE.

What is the exact definition of death?

1 : the irreversible cessation of all vital functions especially as indicated by permanent stoppage of the heart, respiration, and brain activity : the end of life — see brain death. 2 : the cause or occasion of loss of life drinking was the death of him. 3 : the state of being dead in death as in life. Destroyed.

LITERAL ONLY PLEASE
What would you like to know about the Bible? That the Scriptures of the fear and wrath of God drastically outnumber the love of God? Do you know that God calls those who don't fear Him "fools"?

Proverbs 1:7 (NKJV)
7 The fear of the LORD is the beginning of knowledge, But fools despise wisdom and instruction.

Of course I know the rest. You should have kept on reading.
John 3:36 (NKJV)
36 He who believes in the Son has everlasting life; and he who does not believe the Son shall not see life, but the wrath of God abides on him."
