The Lord's prayer which probably is memorized by most christians and many churches use this prayer in their services every week. Now I am going to say some things that will shock some of you. The verses "lead us not into temptation and keep us from evil" may not be entirely correct in our english versions.

Some manuscripts have "And lead us not into "the" temptation and keep us from the evil one." In greek manuscripts there is a definite article in front of the word temptation and evil can be understood as evil or evil one. The definite article "the" should be there but changes the meaning to a trial or testing.

Now most christians take the Lord's teaching as being directly applicable to believers, but most of the gospels are directed at Israel. There is much for us to partake here even for christians. Lord does not lead anyone into temptation.

I am saying these verses are not directly applicable to the church age but are more specific to the tribulation.

So, the real petition may be " lead us not into the tribulation period but deliver us from the evil one (antichrist).

No shock at all. I make it a point to say the Lord's prayer each day. I will keep saying it as it is written. Evil or evil one is still still evil and something to be delivered from. These verses remain applicable.

Christians are those who believe the gospel and become disciples of Christ whether jew or gentile . The exact same gospel preached to Israel by Jesus was sent out to all people until the end of the world

“And Jesus came and spake unto them, saying, All power is given unto me in heaven and in earth. Go ye therefore, and teach all nations, baptizing them in the name of the Father, and of the Son, and of the Holy Ghost: Teaching them to observe all things whatsoever I have commanded you: and, lo, I am with you alway, even unto the end of the world. Amen.”

the gospel came first to israel and then was sent out from Israel same gospel it’s applicable to every believer

The Lord's Prayer was first written 400 years before Christ, tradition has it, by the Great Assembly of men Ezra called to study the Torah when Ezra led the men who came from Babylon to reconstruct the temple at Jerusalem. It is called the Amidah or the Standing Prayer. We have no copy of it in our scriptures but it is used daily in synagogues to this day. Over time, the Jews have added to it and some additions are against Christianity, but the original is a long version of the prayer Christ gave us.

The prayer is more relevant to us today than it was then because we are asking for our kingdom to come on earth. That is what Jesus was sent to us for, besides as our Savior, for he announced the kingdom of heaven was here within us.

Matthew 3:1 In those days John the Baptist came, preaching in the wilderness of Judea2 and saying, “Repent, for the kingdom of heaven has come near.” 3 This is he who was spoken of through the prophet Isaiah:

The Lord’s Prayer is a wonderful way to communicate with our God.

“Our Father who art in heaven, hallowed be thy name.” We are to praise and worship our God.

“Thy kingdom come. Thy will be done on earth as it is in heaven.” Christ came to tell us of the kingdom of heaven and tell us all about how to live in this kingdom although we are still on the earth. We pray for this.

“Give us this day our daily bread,” God supplies us with everything as God created the earth, our bodies daily need this supply. We do not live by bread alone, but by every word of the Lord, we are praying we receive that word daily.

“and forgive us our trespasses, as we forgive those who trespass against us,” Our sins must be forgiven if we live in the kingdom of heaven, and to be forgiven of our sins we must be a forgiver. In the kingdom of heaven we are to love our enemies, not fight them for our rights.

“And lead us not into temptation but deliver us from evil,” that we may live with the Lord in His kingdom.
“For thine is the kingdom and the power, and the glory,
forever and ever.”
