Does God cause repentance?

The bolded part of these verses I find particularly interesting. Does this suggest that God works in a person to bring to repentance?

I believe so. Jesus says in Luke 5:32 I came not to call the righteous, but sinners to repentance. Let's take a quick look at Saul who later became Paul in Acts 9: 1 And Saul, yet breathing out threatenings and slaughter against the disciples of the Lord, went unto the high priest, 2 and desired of him letters to Damascus to the synagogues, that if he found any of this way, whether they were men or women, he might bring them bound unto Jerusalem. 3 And as he journeyed, he came near Damascus: and suddenly there shined round about him a light from heaven: 4 and he fell to the earth, and heard a voice saying unto him, Saul, Saul, why persecutest thou me? 5 And he said, Who art thou, Lord? As Paul says in 1 Corinthians 2: 9 But as it is written, Eye hath not seen, nor ear heard, neither have entered into the heart of man, the things which God hath prepared for them that love him. Because at that time, Saul thought he was doing right in the name of the Lord. For if our heart condemn us, God is greater than our heart, and knoweth all things. If you truly love God, then you will obey "Every word" that proceeds out of his mouth (Matthew 4:4). Baptism is one of those words. In order to be baptized, certain events must take place: You must give up a lifestyle where sin has dominion, (ruler ship) over you. Sin according to 1 John 3:4, Whosoever committeth sin transgresseth also the law: for sin is the transgression (breaking) of the law. Basically Jesus was talking about self righteousness...

Words are important. In this context, no I don't believe God causes us to repent. God has thankfully made us'free agents', he wants us to choose to repent., but it is also a command--a command we can choose to obey...or not. (Bible verses on repentance below)

I do believe He draws men to him and the Holy Spirits moves us to repentance--but that is not the same as cause.

The NIV words the Jeremiah verses a bit differently:

I believe God invite every body to repent but not by force people have a free will to chose.

Yes, God works within and around us to draw us to Him. However, it is the decision of the person to "repent"/turn away from their evil lives and turn to Him........

Too many Scriptures to show this.....most basic Scripture is John 3:16 of course.

Our choices cause consequences.
All throughout history God has shown his love and grace to all of his people.
His continuous plea is to return to him.
A father's love is found in the correcting of his son.

to hear the gospel brings us into a change of what we believe a change of belief in mind and heart a new compass for right and wrong is formed and brings us to repentance all because we hear and believe the gospel

I suppose for our part we think that we do the repenting, Ive never really heard of people saying 'God repented me' but definitely the holy spirit can convict us.

It seems there is a big part God does . Perhaps in leading one to repentance and giving the grace and ability to believe and receive the gospel. Ever breath of life comes from God so it would also appear that there is a grace given for people to turn to God.

an adulterer is called to repentance through hearing and believing the gospel

if we follow what Jesus is saying of the spirit it calls one into a change of thinking and results in change of actions . The adulterer commits adultery because we first allow it into our minds and hearts and harbor the intent and fantasy. Eventually what is in us comes out in our deeds.

Jesus is offering us repentance as a doctrine an adulterer who believes the word of Christ will begin to get control over how they look at others what intents are present when looking at someone of the opposite sex . No one commits adultery accidentally but it comes because they allow it into thier faith and heart where it festers and eventually leads us to sin

if we learn to walk having control of our inner man and his thoughts and intents we can walk in repentance and righteousness in that area . The gospel forst addresses our flaws and then provides the way out
