I am careful when I talk about the Catholic Church. There is the catholic church (the church, universal) and there is the Catholic Church (the church from Rome).
I am always sure to include 'Roman" when talking about the Roman Catholic Church. When speaking, people can't hear capital letters.
All believers are part of the catholic church; the body of Christ in heaven and on earth, but only some are members of the Roman Catholic Church, the church from Rome.

Personally, as a former disciple of the RCC, i would never use the word universal to describe the Body of Christ.
That word never is used in Scripture, from where i have researched, but this word is; 'ONE'.
'ONE' shows up in many places referring to Christ and the Father and the Holy Spirit as well as to those who are washed in His Blood and are "called out".
In Israel, before our LORD, there was only to be ONE Temple, in Jerusalem, for all nations to seek after God - on earth.
Today, there is only ONE Temple of God which is His Body, His Elect, His Saints, His Living Stones, His Called Out Ones.
It is important to also note that there is NO universal church on earth where we can find God.
Baptist, Pentecostal, Lutheran, Methodist, Calvary Chapel, Non Denominational, Roman Catholic, etc.
Not one of these labels will our LORD accept = No entrance permitted into God's Presence.
God searches the hearts - HE knows those who are HIS.
God continues to 'call us out' from things that are not of Him.
"And I heard another voice from heaven saying, “Come out of her, my people, lest you share in her sins, and lest you receive of her plagues.
5For her sins have reached to heaven, and God has remembered her iniquities." Revelation 18
These things i say as a former RCC disciple and now as a one who has been washed in His Blood and filled with His Holy Spirit,
not according to the will of the flesh(religion) but by the Will of Him who called us out of darkness and translated us into the Kingdom of the Love of His Son - Amen.
