Hmm, velly intellesting indeed... So melita's church is like mine and yours is like seoulsearch's and rod's.

Now I'm curious if my church's way of handling the matter is because of our church or because our church is in this geographic area - Do other churches in this area handle the matter the same way? I don't know how I would find out. It's not the kind of topic that naturally comes up when I meet somebody at the grocery store.

Geography and demographics is definitely an interesting question, as I was raised in the Midwest as well.

Just curious... trying to read between your lines... Were you, or are you currently, doubting there's a big difference in the drives? I find it immensely fun poking holes in research, especially social science research. Just curious if you had doubts?

You mention, in a creative writing way, if it's God's intention for women to be the 'moral backup for both people within a couple'. I sense your 'negative' to that question. Or am violating the safety measures of your creative wordsmithing? :p Er, I mean, or am I wrong about that? I'm just teasing you. Not accusing you of anything. :sneaky:

So on that moral backup issue. Just for fun... how about if I use this analogy... If two friends go out for fun, and one's an alcoholic and the other is not. If they are both come across an opportunity to drink alcohol, does the friend who isn't an alcoholic have any extra power and responsibility to steer them both from the collective decision to go drink together? And does this analogy relate reasonably to the 'moral backup' question?
I think another big thing that's happening is that women, more than ever, are being taught to seek out men's sexual attention as early and often as possible, and from the time they are literally barely even becoming women.

I saw an article the other day about a 14-year-old girl whose parents are exploiting her for Tik Tok views and likes by posting pictures of her in halter tops and bikinis that one would see on the Kardashians.

Every woman, even Christian women, knows that in order to catch a man's attention, she has to be hot, and she has to "out-hot" all the other girls, no matter what the age difference is between them.

I don't know how this is affecting women's personal sex drives (as compared to a man's,) but one thing is for sure, there is an exponential increase in women's drive for sexual ATTENTION, if nothing else.

What's going to happen if women who are being trained to tantalize men in every sexual way possible are also somehow expected to be the gatekeepers of sexual purity at the same time?

And then what happens when the supposed safeguard or backup that women were expected to be simply no longer exists at all?

If I may jump in here, the big difference in drives can also work counterintuitively. A woman who has no strong idle sexual drive can be less prepared for what comes with a kiss or a hug than a man who is used to feeling frustrated.

You know when you're working on a car and say something like "she sounds good. Idles good. Purring like a kitten." I'LL NEVER BE ABLE TO WORK ON A CAR AGAIN!

Revving those motors again!

But who has a stronger "drive"?

A "male" car, or a "female" car?

Herbie's cute and all, but I'm not sure he could handle Christine (Stephen King.)

Glad you are still around. And still posting the kind of stuff I get a kick out of. You once made up a poem in one of my threads that I still quote to myself now & again.

Also Herbie could get some backup. He could call Kitt in for an assist.

Usually it's not so much how many times you have sinned as how bad your sin was. If I shoplifted a candy bar and you killed somebody, I can say my sin is not nearly as bad as your sin... you sinner!

But this thread is about how the SAME SIN is seen as much worse for girls than for guys.

I could be mistaken, but from everything I have read in the Bible, God, who neither follows "natural law" (according to humans) nor evolutionary gender roles (again, according to humans,) does not expect or require women to somehow be purer.

He has equal levels of expectations of men and women, and some might argue that He expects more of men in marriage, as they are the heads of the household. (I'm not saying this is an absolute, just a point I have seen brought up from time to time.)
First of all, there are NO "evolutionary" gender roles as Mindfulzen describes. Are there Biblical gender roles? Oh yes.

Secondly, I agree with SeoulSearch that there is something of a double standard, but I think it's because -- and pardon my graphic commentary -- women are the ones entered. It is their "temple" that is invaded. The men are the invaders. So... it comes down to their respect for their own temple.

Or... maybe it's because men are expected to be baser in their behavior.

Or... perhaps it's both.

Is this fair? I'm honestly not sure. Is it sexist? Possibly, but again, not sure. However, the disparate treatment of men and women involved in sexual sin that SeoulSearch described is not scriptural, and those institutions she mentioned need to go back and examine God's word. God shows no favorites. The Bible's clear on that. Adulterers, both men and women, were to be stoned to death under the law. In the NT, Paul makes no differentiation between the sexes when it comes to sexual sin.

This whole thing she described actually pisses me off a bit, it is so wrong.

I will not give you scripture, I typed that women are caregivers and must be purer, because that is the standard society has set. What some calls a misogynistic world, and is tradcon. Like it or not, that is the world you live in. Just stating the reality you live in, do theory and discuss the utopia you want instead, but I am not really into that now.
I'm so glad that this line of thinking is not found in Scripture. Christians will do well to heed Paul's writing to Timothy:

Do not rebuke an older man harshly, but exhort him as if he were your father. Treat younger men as brothers, older women as mothers, and younger women as sisters, with absolute purity (1 Timothy 5:1-2).
