So I was baptized last year, in the video I have of that day my pastor said I baptize you in the name of the father son and Holy Spirit. Recently I came across a YouTube pastor that it’s wrong to say the trinity because God is one which I agree. He found scripture where the apostles baptized in the name of Jesus which I believe is Gods name. So should I be re baptized? Should I tell my pastor I think he’s wrong? I’m seriously questioning everything because why didn’t my pastor know to say Jesus name it makes sense to me to say his name, can I be re baptized!?
As you can see there are differing views which is why there is a command to "work out your own salvation with fear and trembling"... Also it is
your eternal existence that you're wanting to secure, so you have a vested interest in getting it right. AKA the stakes are high.
Ask God to make it KNOWN to you what is correct. If you're wanting to serve God, let him start teaching you now. take it to prayer and believe him to answer. He still speaks, works miracles, raises people from the dead... if not, there is no resurrection and it wouldn't matter anyway. (spoiler alert: it matters)
I'll point out a few things though,
1. Yes, it's likely you need to be re-baptized, correctly this time. But don't rush out and do it wrong again. Is that scriptural? Yes. see it in action in
Acts 19:1-6. Notice they also needed to receive the Holy Ghost which didn't come immediately upon belief or even at the moment they were baptized. The didn't receive it until verse 6.
2. If people knew what the name of the Father, Son and Holy Ghost is, they wouldn't use that phrase when baptizing. You might not understand that now, but I'm sure you can grasp that the NAME of the SON is JESUS, not SON. And you can see that in practice, Paul (
Acts 19:1-6) and Peter (
Acts 2:38,39) baptized with the name "Jesus", not the phrase "Father, Son & Holy Ghost"
The reason your pastor may not see it is because Jesus knew what he was talking about when he said "If the blind lead the blind, both fall into the ditch". If you don't want to be led by a blind leader, you're going to need to seek and rely on the ONE leader that is never blind, and that is God himself. Jesus also said that if a person won't go find out the truth from God himself, he won't be able to make it all the way to Jesus (parahprased).
John 6:44-45 KJV
No man can come to me, except the Father which hath sent me draw him: and I will raise him up at the last day. [45] It is written in the prophets, And they shall be all taught of God. Every man therefore that hath heard, and hath learned of the Father, cometh unto me.
You need to seek God until he answers you. And yes, he will answer you if you don't give up. (Don't give up)
Luke 18:1-8 KJV
And he spake a parable unto them to this end, that men ought always to pray, and not to faint; [2] Saying, There was in a city a judge, which feared not God, neither regarded man: [3] And there was a widow in that city; and she came unto him, saying, Avenge me of mine adversary. [4] And he would not for a while: but afterward he said within himself, Though I fear not God, nor regard man; [5] Yet because this widow troubleth me, I will avenge her, lest by her continual coming she weary me. [6] And the Lord said, Hear what the unjust judge saith. [7] And shall not God avenge his own elect, which cry day and night unto him, though he bear long with them? [8] I tell you that he will avenge them speedily. Nevertheless when the Son of man cometh, shall he find faith on the earth?
Sorry so long of a reply. I wanted you to be able to read the verses.
Acts 19:1-6 KJV
And it came to pass, that, while Apollos was at Corinth, Paul having passed through the upper coasts came to Ephesus: and finding certain disciples, [2] He said unto them, Have ye received the Holy Ghost since ye believed? And they said unto him, We have not so much as heard whether there be any Holy Ghost. [3] And he said unto them, Unto what then were ye baptized? And they said, Unto John's baptism. [4] Then said Paul, John verily baptized with the baptism of repentance, saying unto the people, that they should believe on him which should come after him, that is, on Christ Jesus. [5] When they heard this, they were baptized in the name of the Lord Jesus. [6] And when Paul had laid his hands upon them, the Holy Ghost came on them; and they spake with tongues, and prophesied.
Acts 2:38-39 KJV
Then Peter said unto them, Repent, and be baptized every one of you in the name of Jesus Christ for the remission of sins, and ye shall receive the gift of the Holy Ghost. [39] For the promise is unto you, and to your children, and to all that are afar off, even as many as the Lord our God shall call.
Love in Jesus,
