Ephesians 6:4 (AMP):"Fathers, do not provoke your children to anger [do not exasperate them to the point of resentment with demands that are trivial or unreasonable or humiliating or abusive; nor by showing favoritism or indifference to any of them], but bring them up [tenderly, with lovingkindness] in the discipline and instruction of the Lord."
What a loaded instruction! It almost goes without saying that a parent desires to shape and mould a child into the best they can be. Proverbs 22:6 tells us to "train up a child in the way he should go." The truth is: the most effective training comes through example. We are all called to live as examples to either our natural children, or those we are leading in spiritual things.
One of the greatest gifts we can give to those under our care is to model what living a Godly life is. To show how we have a deep, personal trust in the Lord Jesus, and walk completely surrendered to Him in our own personal lives. And when things get rough and tough, to show that we have a firm reliance on the character of God and His steadfast Word! This is one of the most effective ways to reflect what it looks like to be a whole, Christ-centered, purposeful, follower of Christ. One who is truly led by the Spirit and knows just how to relate, walking humbly with their God!
