Hi all dear brother and sisters. If smoking ciggerettes was classed as a sin, would you obey that law ?

Firstly there is no mention of smoking ciggerettes in our bible, so i can only assume they where not invented then.

However i need to ask the question, why is adultery the only sin you can commit against your own body.

KJ21
Flee fornication. Every other sin which a man doeth is outside the body, but he that committeth fornication sinneth against his own body.

I have a strong belief that the five sences of the body all get defiled and polluted when you smoke cigerettes, thus making smoking ciggerettes a sin against the body (the flesh) which then gives a demon the ability to possess the flesh of the body. would this be the same for adultery,
God created the tobacco plant.

Mark 7:15 "There is nothing outside a person that by going into him can defile him, but the things that come out of a person are what defile him.”

Nothing one puts in their body will make them unclean, regardless of what recovery groups say. It may not be healthy, but it doesn't make you unclean. Smoking serves no real purpose and can be harmful. We are to love ourselves. A smoker doesn't want to fall under condemnation, they'll just end up smoking more. Learning to become a follower of Jesus, a disciple, will deal with things that keeps one in bondage, such as the carnal nature, curses, and oppression. A good seminar, such as The Divine Plumb Line, can help.

Do not be deceived: “Bad company corrupts good morals.”
AMPC
Do not be so deceived and misled! Evil companionships (communion, associations) corrupt and deprave good manners and morals and character.

Think does good manner come out of the tounge ?

Think does good morals come from your personality ?

Think if you become decieved is that something that has gone in to your body ?

For some reason whenever I see people who profess to being Christian smoking it really turns me off; maybe it's just me. I occasionally see churches with butt cans around outside; apparently they've given up on trying to get people not to smoke.

"All things are permitted for me, but not all things are of benefit. All things are permitted for me, but I will not be mastered by anything."—1 Corinthians 6:12
I forgot all about this thread lol, or maybe it was my mind saying yuck dont associate your self with cigarettes lol.

Not that im trying to make anyone feal bad, because ive just done 15 days straight without a cigarette, ive seen the butt ends all around the church gardens to and outside the main entrance to. Makes me feal im going into the wrong church sometimes

I enjoy cigars and really good tequila. However, if you were against such things I would not drink alcohol or enjoy a cigar around you.
I am addicted to neither and never enjoy either to excess.
Yup i know a guy who loved cigars to, but didnt love them so much when he got cancer of the throat. not that im condeming you, but cigars scare me, Glorified temptation springs to mind here.

I think we need to look at the following

1 Corinthians 6:16-20
16 Or do you not know that he who is joined to a harlot is one body with her? For “the two,” He says, “shall become one flesh.” 17 But he who is joined to the Lord is one spirit with Him.
18 Flee sexual immorality. Every sin that a man does is outside the body, but he who commits sexual immorality sins against his own body. 19 Or do you not know that your body is the temple of the Holy Spirit who is in you, whom you have from God, and you are not your own? 20 For you were bought at a price; therefore glorify God in your body and in your spirit, which are God’s.

When God created Adam had Eve they became one flesh as a result of having sex.

Genesis 2:24
24 Therefore a man shall leave his father and mother and be joined to his wife, and they shall become one flesh.

Paul quotes this in v16.

When a person becomes a believer they are united with Jesus.

When a believer commits adultery or imorrality they are basically doing something with the body that is joined with an adulteras relationship yet the person is also joined with Jesus.

We need to look at what Paul says a few verses previous

1 Corinthians 6:12-13

Glorify God in Body and Spirit
12 All things are lawful for me, but all things are not helpful. All things are lawful for me, but I will not be brought under the power of any. 13 Foods for the stomach and the stomach for foods, but God will destroy both it and them. Now the body is not for sexual immorality but for the Lord, and the Lord for the body.

When two people become one the Lord is the third person in this relationship.

The following verse is often quoted at marriage ceremony

Ecclesiastes 4:12
12 A person standing alone can be attacked and defeated, but two can stand back-to-back and conquer. Three are even better, for a triple-braided cord is not easily broken.

When two people get married they do so before God and promise to keep a lifelong commitment to each other with God as the centre of the marriage.

If we look at 1 Corinthians chapter 7 we see Paul talks about marriage and keeping the marriage sacred as it was always intended to.

Sexual sin has serious consequences.
I know.
I have never commited adultery yet even as an immature Christian I commited fornication, having sex. I was never taught about it.

Yet every time I did the guilt and shame was massive and oppressive.
I cannot make any excuse for what I did but I did so as a result seeking some kind of love as a result of my upbringing.

Lack of love, was sexually abused and a lot more.
Not unusual for a person like to seek sex for reassurance.

Most of my family have committed adultery during my upbringing.

YET

As a result I had a lot of baggage that I carried as result.

In a sense when we have sex we create a soul tie.
I look at this way.
If we have sex with someone then it's like a ruler. The ruler is 30cm long and complete.
Yet when you break the relationship and have sex with someone else the ruler is now broken.

When it is then we have jagged edges. This causes pain, guilt.
Do it again and again we have more jagged edges.

Praise God he healed me of the guilt.

So for me it's a sin against the body because we have body, spirit and soul.
We are united with our partner and Jesus as it was meant to be.

Bring someone else in to it is like asking Jesus to bless and that he will not do or bless.

Sex is just flesh on flesh but it body, mind, spirit and soul.

I hope I make some sense.
Really great explanation here and very well explained. Being joined to the harlot yikes, thats like so bad. ive never came across that scripture befor. it sounds like youve become married to the whore of babylon (a prostitute) maybe i should be careful with my words here i wouldnt want to associate the same thing happening to people who smoke cigarettes or drink to much and take drugs etc. but really are those people any different are they having respect for there body when people do this, including me ? arnt they dissrespecting there body the same way as adultery ? it sounds like the scripture you posted about the harlot means your not treating your body with respect, there for the holy spirit flees, and the harlot takes its place. the harlot sounds like a demon, yuck i feal sick now. im definately packing in smoking now.

the temple of the Holy Spirit is the body. Smoking will not send you to hell but it can get you to heaven sooner.

the end result is smoking is NOT Praiseworthy. I have yet to hear a Christian say with Great exuberance

Thank you Jesus for the years of Camel cigarettes and the COPD and cancer of the lungs Thank you, Jesus !!!

I smoked for 10 years and did cigars for two years I paid out over 8000 $ to see it go up in smoke.

$8000 wow what could have God done with that money if I had sown it into Missions?

We must live a life that is Praiseworthy before God and man. Does smoking and casual drinking strengthen your witness?
I would think not. We do not as the world does but we are to do what doesn't grieve the Holy Spirit.

No, they just need some butt cans. They can assign a choir member to empty them as needed.

Smoking cigarettes is disgusting but I doubt it is a sin. Well, anything that isn't perfect is sin, so everything we do is probably sin.

I was a Winston man for years but switched to Marlboro due to a price war. Later was trending towards L& M for the same reason. Currently smoke free sin mid Feb. Did the nicotine lozenges for a couple months then gave them up too. I use the money that I save by buying bird seed, suet, and various feeders. I feed the neighborhood rooster too.

From Paul, "I know and am convinced by the Lord Jesus that there is nothing unclean of itself; but to him who considers anything to be unclean, to him it is unclean."

And a bit further, "..for whatever is not from faith is sin."

So, for the believers who think smoking cigars is a sin, they should not smoke cigars. It is a simple matter of the soul. Nothing is in itself unclean, but if one believes something is, then they should avoid it for the sake of their own conscience. A believer with the Spirit of God should never go against their own conscience.

When you say the temple of the holy spirit is the body ? what do you mean exactly ? sorry am i missing something here, do you mean the human body is a temple for the holy spirit or are you referring to something else ?

My own experience here is something that you could probably relate to if youve quit smoking,
But im now on day 16 without a cigarette, and at times i feel like pulling my hair out. other times a fealing of suffication comes upon me as my lungs starts to ajust with being able to breath better. Ive found my self wanting to get out of the house more for a walk after fealing short breathed. It feels Like im now suffering Claustrophobia as my lungs ajust.

Yesterday was so hard, i dont know how i survived but i did. all day yesterday i was denomically attacked with temptation over and over again from which i know was coming from a denomic spirit of tempting me over and over again with how nice it would be to have a cigarette. For me personally if a denomic spirit is tempting you to do something it must be a sin.

Today however a complete breeze, its almost like my body has gained extra will power overnight.
yesterday as well i had numerous occasions when a denomic spirit got into the side of my face yesterday and after a minute or so of gaining access my body flushed it out. It happened about 20 times with ripple effects in my cheeks and shivers up my spine, each time my body flushed the denomic spirit out. and on each time it gained access to my face there was imediate temptation to have a cigarette Today no such issues, ive also been working with a nasal flush for 2 weeks, so i have no more yucky black stuff in my ears or throat or nose today its all gone.
So much as improved today like hearing taste and smell.

Smoking is just as bad for your body as going straight to the all-you-can eat buffet after Church after telling people not to smoke... anything that goes against the health for your own body is sinful in nature.

LOL, I guess you assume all those who eat at a buffet do so to excess? Also, you don't need to justify your smoking by pointing out other health issues. I know people who smoke right after church and drive to that same buffet, your point is what>?

We finally agree on something. We can go even further and say that breathing the air is bad for us because of all the pollution and crap they spray in our skies. Even eating processed food, like potato chips or boxed anything, with all the chemicals and preservatives, is bad for us. And all the GMO modified foods. The list is seriously endless.
