This is as much for me as for all believers .. the Christian call to the spiritual fight...

1 Timothy 6:9-13 KJV

But they that will be rich fall into temptation and a snare, and into many foolish and hurtful lusts, which drown men in destruction and perdition.

[10] For the love of money is the root of all evil: which while some coveted after, they have erred from the faith, and pierced themselves through with many sorrows.

[11] But thou, O man of God, flee these things; and follow after righteousness, godliness, faith, love, patience, meekness.

[12] Fight the good fight of faith, lay hold on eternal life, whereunto thou art also called, and hast professed a good profession before many witnesses. [13]

Having to give up materials.. money for the faith.. can be a stumbling block. I don't do well in this. Fear of what might happen to lose the money gets to me.

So.. the call is here!

A big lesson for me and all..

It is the LOVE of money that is wrong. We are to be wise. Prudence dictates that a wise person will save or invest as a fall-back in the event of Job loss or other difficult financial event. One reason for doing so is to not be a financial burden on others. Another reason for doing is to be a blessing to others who are not fortunate enough to be able to save as you were able.

Yes this is true. I mean more to do with compromise to keep money when they could have used it for God.

An example would be say if a spouse leaves someone, and then their is the option to legally dispute the divorce, but they fear losing a large sum of money and dont donthe dispute

Yes, I see. Divorce is a an ugly experience that can cause people to put greater emphasis on things temporal rather than things eternal.

I know from experience that divorce is indeed an ugly experience. Today is the anniversary of my divorce in 1984.

Thanks for telling me, the 'someone' whose spouse divorced them is me if you didn't guess.

One of the difficult things is.. so I was faithful to my wife, never hit her .. so biblically I couldn't see how the divorce could go ahead.. but then the law of society-- in NZ all you need is 'irreconcileable differences'.. and that is not hard to prove if the marriage couple don't get along well.

I was faithful to my X too and never hit her or abused her. She was verbally and physically abusive and also cheated on me.

Even though she didn't have to work she never cooked dinner, did laundry or any type of housework whatsoever. The thing is, it was her idea to get the divorce after 6 1/2 years of marriage. I was devastated at the time but a few years later realize that the divorce was a blessing in disguise.

I wanted to stay married for the sake of my young daughter. Thank God that years later we have a good father / daughter relationship. She has not gotten along with her mother for years. Guess she got sick of the abuse too.

Believe me, you are not alone in regards to divorce. There are others as well and each has their own unique horror story.

if your spouse is unfaithful and wants to leave, then just let them leave...we arent called to bondage.
if all they were after was money just pay them to go. You dont need them.

I am sorry to hear that you were in that situation, but God has better things for you. dont fall into a snare of lust just cos you were rich.

if you give to the poor, its like lending to God and He will pay you back. You wont lose in the end, you will gain treasures in heaven that can never be lost.

Not really rich.. but had money saved that I could have used to pay to dispute the divorce.

I just couldn't see the dispute being accepted.. the divorce not happening.. seeing in NZ all that needs to be proved is irreconcilable differences.

Anyway.. so trying to move on.. but now feeling like I didnt take the godly step and its too late
