Our reward of eternal life through our faith is the core of Christianity, it is foremost and first
I NEVER focus on rewards for myself, thus it cannot be the core of the Bible. I focus on the Word and that others would know it. There is Nothing more important to know in this life than Col 2:9-15. Nothing . . . Col 2:9-15 is the utter Core of the Bible. If our heart has not been Circumcised, there is no reward . . . Only eternal damnation.

Most people cannot relate to Paul when he quoted the Lord saying "my Grace is sufficient for you." But you understand . . . And you realize the Incredible value of suffering, while most christians believe that we are supposed to have wonderful, fantastic earthly lives. But you understand that it is suffering that brings meaning to this life. I am proud to "know" you. You are very lucky my friend!
Do not overdo the kindness.
We know with our Father for us nothing can be against us, even if it seems so in this strange land. We are all strangers here, yet, when we know the Love of God, and we allow for its being with us no matter how bad things may see, we are brought out on top, just as oil floats above water.

What is this passage talking about exactly? Does this process involve literal fire or is this figurative language?

1 Corinthians 3:10-15 (KJV)
10According to the grace of God which is given unto me, as a wise masterbuilder, I have laid the foundation, and another buildeth thereon. But let every man take heed how he buildeth thereupon. 11For other foundation can no man lay than that is laid, which is Jesus Christ. 12Now if any man build upon this foundation gold, silver, precious stones, wood, hay, stubble; 13Every man's work shall be made manifest: for the day shall declare it, because it shall be revealed by fire; and the fire shall try every man's work of what sort it is. 14If any man's work abide which he hath built thereupon, he shall receive a reward. 15If any man's work shall be burned, he shall suffer loss: but he himself shall be saved; yet so as by fire.
Paul is referring to the great white throne judgement where works and people will be tried by the words our Lord Jesus spoke in order to show whether they should continue.

Whether they should continue doing what exactly?

Paul is referring to the great white throne judgement where works and
people will be tried by the words our Lord Jesus spoke in order to show
whether they should continue.

The Great White Throne event is reserved for the dead; no living are
represented there.

Rev 20:12 . . And I saw the dead, small and great, stand before God; and
the books were opened: and another book was opened, which is the book of
life: and the dead were judged out of those things which were written in the
books, according to their works.

We should not account the Christians to whom Paul penned his letter as
among the dead; we should account them as among the living.

John 5:24 . . I tell you the truth: whoever hears my word, and believes Him
who sent me, has eternal life and will not be condemned; he has crossed
over from death to life.

I understand what you're saying, but we're made alive in Christ before our bodies die. That's the 1st resurrection.
Standing before the great white throne judgement is when our bodies are resurrected.

I agree, and I get the feeling that this happens to many, many people just before death itself. I feel that many people live lives apart from Christ for the vast majority, and then at the end, they are saved. And this . . . is all a part of the Lord's Powerful and Eternal Plan.

The Mysteries of God are incredible!

So what I am getting so far is that 1 Corinthians 3:10-15 is basically about the works we do in the name of Jesus. On judgment day, our works will be examined and whatever work was not to the glory of Jesus will be destroyed and whatever work brought Jesus glory will be rewarded.

Also, this is not about the gift of eternal life or losing salvation. We are still saved, but the additional rewards we could have received will be great or fewer depending on what we did.

Sound about right?
I thought it was to do with what we teach or preach.
That's the works we do in the name of Jesus.
Basically given the verses in Corinthians it is building on the foundation laid which Jesus so to preach/teach that detracts from salvation of saved by grace through faith are the works that will be burned up.

So if I was to help someone who was struggling with debt and was to help them I would not consider this as work per Corinthians.
I'm an accountant who has helped many people without asking or expecting payment.
Both Christians and non Christians.
This is an outworking of my faith for me.

Another thing I would like to throw into the mix is that if knew someone who really had a need that I could meet but would not then that's a bad work, basically a sin?
I do not see that as the works in Corinthians.
As believers our sins are forgiven and God remembers them no more

Psalms 103:12
12 As far as the east is from the west,
So far has He removed our transgressions from us.

Hebrews 8:12
12 For I will be merciful to their unrighteousness, and their sins and their lawless deeds I will remember no more.”

It seems some on here think differently.

Open to correction here.

If anyone responding with the verses in Revalations concerning works can you please reconcile with the above.

Yes, and what we do for the Lord must be with a pure motive, not forced, and not done to be recognized and receive praise from men. Otherwise, if we think we are earning points by what we do, that which we do is worthless, like wood, hay, and stubble.[/QUOTE According to this scripture we can test what we do by subjecting it to fire. Our houses and cars can burn but the love we give cannot burn.

The parable of the rich young man who went to Jesus to ask what he must do. He listed the things he thought were important and adequate, but Jesus told him there was more to be perfect. Jesus didn't tell him to stop trying to obey, it is just that we are not to get puffed up with pride in self, we always need Jesus.

Being alive in Christ is so beautiful, but your are changing the subject from these verses. They are not about being alive in Christ, they are about being rewarded for work and telling us what kind of work we are rewarded for.

I understand your thrill at the eternal life God has given you, but you are letting this thrill block out what these verses are telling you.

Sometimes a thought might come to mind, such as: "Ask this person sitting next to you whether they've heard the gospel message." That voice could very well be the Holy Spirit giving you a nudge to share Jesus with someone, a stranger perhaps who needs to hear that messageat that very moment in time.

Heaven rejoices when one sinner repents and is saved. Those are the precious gems that survive the fire.

Yes, God can save people to the uttermost part of their life,

Any love we give survives the fire. If we cook a meal to give to an ill mother for her family, it survives the fire.

Does that not prove my point though?
Preaching the Gospel.

Is that not the works addressed in Corinthians the we are discussing?

Funny but sad story, but yet not funny.

There was a corner shop that was near where I work. A small shop.
I would often get my lunch there or a drink.
Got to know the owner and his wife.

The wife was diagnosed with breast cancer and was getting treatment.
And in between she was still in the shop working when she was up to it.

She was in her 30's

I noticed she wasn't in the shop as much.
I went on my holiday and when I came back and went to work when I went to the shop I asked her husband how is your wife doing?

He said she is in a hospice, gone down hill quickly and only has a couple of weeks.

I said really sorry to hear this then left the shop. I had been praying privately for her.

A couple of days late when I was going into work I really felt God ask me to go and offer to pray for her.

So I parked my car where I work and this is true.

Sat in my car and the conversation was.

You want me to go and pray?
Yes he said.
I said no.
He said please go and offer to pray.
So I am in my car having an argument with God.
I'm raising my hands in despair and fear.
If I am honest if anyone would have seen me they would have questioned if I was having a breakdown.

So I did as I was asked by God but asked "Please make sure the shop is empty"

It was and I asked her husband "Can i go and pray for her?

He said the following.

"Don't bother last night the hospice vicar offered to pray for her, she told him to stick the fxxxx bible up his fxxxx backside and she well tell you the same"

I felt gutted and confused.
Why would God asked me to do this?

God asked me to offer to pray for him which I did.
He refused.

I also felt God to ask me to pray for her as well.

The next day he told me she died last night.

Hoping deatbead confession and hoping the husband heard the gospel

How does this relate the verses we are discussing in Corinthians and how does this relate to the verses in James concerning works as a result of faith?

I cannot see how the works in Corinthians relates to James.
No mention of works of love in Corinthians

I wasn't responding to the verses as I am responding to you right now. I was responding to a point that an alternate member had made. Thanks for the correction, though. Anything else you'd like to pick apart?

Amazing indeed.

One of my favourite verses.
