Christians are to look to God's teachings, not man's teaching. If baptism is offered to anyone in scripture, it is accepted, not rejected. There are instances in scripture of souls being saved without baptism, as the man on the cross was saved.
I believe Baptism is a spiritual marker for a believer but not for the forgiveness of sins.
Its a symbolic act of the death and resurrection of Jesus.
The problem we have today is that it's made such a big issue.
The big issue being "Stand up and give a big testimony"
A big issue "The grilling of ones lifestyle"
The above and other things.
It breaks my heart that believers don't want to get baptized because of things like not wanting to give some big testimony in front of many people or are worried that they we be rejected because they have to be sinless or feel they need to before they get baptized.
My son got baptised but was worried about being baptized because his testimony was not spectacular.
When he told me this I just said "No testimony needed just say you are being baptized because you believe in Jesus and want to be like him"
Two weeks later I baptised him in our church.
My nephew sought me out about baptism, felt he was not worthy to be so as he still sinned.
I said Jesus died for you as a sinner go get baptised.
In Romans Paul says,
If we confess with our mouths the Lord Jesus and believe in your heart the God has raised him from the dead you will be saved.
For with heart one believes unto righteousness and with the confession is made unto salvation.
This is very important, the death and resurrection.
I had to refuse baptism to a person because they could not confess the above.
Every person I have baptised I ask them have you done this.
My opinion is that anyone who has done should be baptised straight away.
