Genesis 9:5-6
New International Version
5 And for your lifeblood I will surely demand an accounting. I will demand an accounting from every animal. And from each human being, too, I will demand an accounting for the life of another human being.
6 “Whoever sheds human blood,
by humans shall their blood be shed;
for in the image of God
has God made mankind.
Blood in the Bible is vital to understand the relation between the fluid that our heart pumps in and out to sustain life or the correlation between the blood of sacrifices and covenants. When blood stops being pumped into the vital organs of the body, the body begins to die. The blood of life carries significant importance. To parallel, it was the blood of Jesus that cleansed us of our debt in sin. The lifeblood of Jesus was both spiritually and physically sin-less. As to why the blood of Christ was the perfect atonement.
Here in Genesis 9 is the first time in written form the moral law speaking on the sanctity of human life. Verse 5 and 6 are part of what is typically called the Noahide laws. The Noahide laws were the first laws given to Moses and his family when they left the Ark. These laws were to govern the first human civilization after the flood.
The law of life was self-evident in Cain when he killed his brother Abel. God punished him for thd sin, and immediately, Cain feared for his own life. Proving he felt his life was valuable even though he just took his brother's life. Self-evident in that life is valuable even if they suppress the truth.
God will even hold the animal accountable for killing a human made in God's image. To be made in God's image sets humanity apart from the beasts and plants of creation. All living but not created in God's image. Soulish creatures bound by body, mind, and soul gave us free will and choice between good and evil.
We see God's view of murder and the unjust killing of a human. The murder of innocence will be held accountable if not by the sword of the governed, the sword of a foreign country, or God's spiritual judgment.
The murder of our children in the womb will be held accountable, the murder in gang violence, the murder of our peacekeepers, the lack of support in events like the 2012 Benghazi attack that allowed our soldiers and diplomats to be murdered, the unjust use of force by specific peacekeepers, the murder of our elderly frequently from abuse in the retirement homes or neglect in hospitals, the corruption in Big Pharma that leads to life-saving drugs being to expensive.
It will all be held accountable either here on Earth or before the throne in Heaven.
