Matthew 3:13-17
Then cometh Jesus from Galilee to Jordan unto John, to be baptized of him.But John forbad him, saying, I have need to be baptized of thee, and comest thou to me?And Jesus answering said unto him, Suffer it to be so now: for thus it becometh us to fulfil all righteousness. Then he suffered him.And Jesus, when he was baptized, went up straightway out of the water: and, lo, the heavens were opened unto him, and he saw the Spirit of God descending like a dove, and lighting upon him:And lo a voice from heaven, saying, This is my beloved Son, in whom I am well pleased.
John’s heart is quite apparent and it was hard for him to accept that he had to baptize Jesus, the holy son of God, who did nothing of deserving of death but was crucified by men. But this had to be done so that our souls may live and to fulfill our righteousness. We cannot stand before God with sin in our hearts or else God would have no choice but to curse us into everlasting destruction. For us to able to call God our father, we have to be righteous and holy because God is righteous and holy. However, we cannot become righteous and holy through our actions. So the Bible tells us that by grace we have been saved because Jesus, the holy son of God who never sinned, died for ours, so that God can give us his righteousness without any regard to how we are whatsoever, 100% grace.
John 1:29
The next day John seeth Jesus coming unto him, and saith, Behold the Lamb of God, which taketh away the sin of the world.
John the Baptist placed the sin of the world upon Jesus, then sees Him the next day and says, "Behold, the lamb of God who takes away the sin of the world." And as Jesus died on the cross, his last words were, " It is finished." The perfect work of God that completely cleansed us of all of our sins was finished on the cross. Therefore, we are righteous and holy, just as God is righteous and holy. Now, we can call God our father as we have truly become the children of God.
When we start to understand the heart of God in the Bible, we start to understand how much God loves each and everyone of us.
