Just As I Am is very sweet. I was a little surprised you posted a modern hymn and glad you did.

Modern hymn-wise, I'd say Thy Word by Amy Grant. I think that would classify as a hymn, you think? I wish churches would include it in their worship services, whether praise music or hymns, but I've never seen it done. Curious thing.

From the traditional hymns, I think Oh Holy Night is the best composition I've ever heard and my fav.

Interesting to note:
Many songs became ..'hymns.'
---
Songs from 'Methodist Revival' were criticized &
despised..
- During those days.
Several songs are in 'hymn' book.
---
My favorite hymns.
- To God Be The Glory
- When I Survey The Wondrous Cross

To be honest, it’s hard for me to know what classifies as a hymn. What is the difference between spiritual songs and hymns? I’m not entirely sure.

Hymn | Definition of Hymn by Merriam-Webster

Hymn definition is - a song of praise to God.

wiki: A hymn is a type of song, usually religious, specifically written for the purpose of adoration or prayer, and typically addressed to a deity or deities, or to a prominent figure or personification.

By strict definition it's a song of praise to God. By by modern church convention it's traditional songs in a hymnal book, like How Great Thou Art. I say that because in the USA there's a general split between 1. 'modern praise music' (this the 'spiritual songs you're referring to?) where people read the words off a screen, many close their eyes, raise their hands, the lyrics tend to be rather repetitive -- and 2. 'traditional hymns' where people are reading/singing traditional hymns out of a hymnal, where they tend to keep their eyes open cause there's a lot of words, many tricky, to read. lol (not crazy about the lol smile on this forum: ). One might say there's a third being Gospel songs.
