In Matthew 19 the Rich man asks Jesus what he must do to inherit eternal life. First Jesus says there is only one who is good, and that is God. But He proceeds to say, follow the commandments.
The rich man says he has kept all of them and is confused at what he still lacks. and Jesus replies, sell everything and give to the poor.
Jesus then goes to say it is easier for a camel to go through the eye of a needle than for a rich man to enter the kingdom and clarifies that this is impossible with man.
So essentially Jesus is saying, there is nothing YOU can do to enter the kingdom of heaven.
I have spent a lot of my time as a Christian worrying about how i'm living, trying to please God. But the problem with this is that my focus is on myself and what I am doing. I am so focused on myself that im not actually looking where I am going. Im so focused on protecting my worth that I have lost myself. When im in a social situation, im in my own head trying to think about what to talk about, and again the focus is on myself, so I end up having nothing to talk about.
I believe true faith is required to walk in this world without worrying about what you look like. It's so interesting because for my whole life I have been focused on myself, and instead of being able to see my own flaws, I only see the flaws in others. I can't see my own wounds, and I see other people's wounds as their flaws.
When I trust that my worth is unchangeable in Christ, I can be present with others without being worried about what I look like. It's still really hard, but im finally learning to let my light shine by taking the focus off of myself.
