I've always heard it...if it's the Lord's will and the creek don't rise...lol
For me , instead of the creek don’t rise, it would be and the street don’t flood. Similar but still different.
Don’t want to damage the car after all. Best to wait until the water drains enough.

one I hear a lot is going to church doesnt make you a christian anymore than going to mcdonalds makes you a hamburger

?! But mcdonalds DOES make hamburgers for you, if you buy them, you dont make the hamburgers at mcdonalds. Well I dont, unless I work there.

I think the saying is a good and valid one, countering the notion that going to Church enough times will turn you into a Christian, similarly walking into McDonalds enough times will not turn you into a hamburger. (unless the adage 'you are what you eat' is true. lol)

"Give Jesus a chance" (as in poor, helpless Jesus, better give him a boost up)

My favorite "worst" phrase is . . .

"Confidence is from the Lord."

And the other "worst" quote is . . .

"Just pray about it."

maybe they meant working at church makes you a christian , just like working at mcdonalds makes you a hamburger?

I dont quite understand the connection between christians and hamburgers here. Or maybe its churches and mcdonalds?!

I like WWJD

what would Jesus do?

As it does make you think, hmm what would Jesus do?

The other one is when people say hallulejah praise the Lord! when anything good happens.

Though some people are nuts and also say it when anything bad happens too. lol

In churches this is what people say if they got nothing else to say 'God is good. All the time God is good.'

And this is what young people always say 'Awesome' whenever someone does anything Jesus like.

The saying usually happens when witnessing to someone and you ask them, "Are you a Christian?". often they snap back and say something like, "Yes, definitely I am a Christian {because} I go to Church.". Then the witnesser's response would be something like..."You realize going to Church no more makes you a Christian than going to McDonalds makes you a hamburger?"
So the context isn't where one works, but it's the false notion that going to Church often enough makes one a Christian.

No one said either of those.
Kansas sang a song about 'all we are is dust in the wind.'

Moses penned these words...
Genesis 3:19 (KJV) In the sweat of thy face shalt thou eat bread, till thou return unto the ground; for out of it wast thou taken: for dust thou art, and unto dust shalt thou return.

Also Job and Solomon had some wisdom concerning life's vanity.
