I would wager it is one whole heck of a lot more than that.

the solution to this is neither to close the border nor to invite everyone through, but to address the things in Central American countries that provoke tens and hundreds of thousands of people to seek asylum from other nations in the first place.

Did you even watch the ceremony? I did, so as to make sure the law was followed. He did exactly this, to the letter. He asked if there were objections for each and every state vote. When there were objections he followed the constitution as outlined. He had no power to stop it unless there were objections made BY A SENATOR OR A HOUSE MEMBER.

Only the Senate and house had/has the power to object and then stop the proceedings...and so they did when states like Arizona and Pennsylvania votes were read. Then it's up the Senate AND House to vote separately to KEEP the objection. Both bodies must keep the objection for it to stand, which was never going to happen because the house has a "dem" majority.

Pence had no power to stop the confirmation of these electoral votes.

He told Trump this. He tried to explain this to the president. But the president didn't want to accept it, and then claimed Pence betrayed him. Then made Pence an enemy.

If any other country did what trump was doing, we'd not hesitate to call that person a dictator.

This behavior is no different from a Kim Jong un or Putin.

...and this is the real issue. The feeling of robbery can only be felt if one believes their property was taken.

It was already assumed by many that Trump would win a second term. Some believed he was ordained by God as the savior (of America), others just assumed it's a given that sitting presidents would have two terms, and still others thought no one would possibly vote for Biden regardless if they didn't like Trump.

...so the only plausible explanation for many Trump supporters is theft through fraud. And no amount of evidence will convince them otherwise. Meanwhile, they're making their belief of fraud the proof that warrants their belief.

This is a very scary situation.

so it's a lie that's designed to appeal to Christians. that's something pretty important to remember, IMO. it will look like it's the 'Christian thing to do / believe' and have a religious element. people who claim to be believers -- but whose god is really one of their own making, not the True God -- will fall in line and preach the beast.

i heard that prior to the event, the national guard had reached out offering to send troops to help keep peace, as they had done when BLM rallies were expected. but the capitol police refused. i also heard that the white house declined to send them as reinforcements while it was happening -- until Pence, not Trump, took steps to send them. Trump's representatives later said he was the one who gave that order, but the secretary of defense said he only spoke with Pence, Pelosi, Schumer & Hoyer. there are conflicting reports of who was actually organizing and directing the eventual response.
