you do know that the term " Xmas" is very common with those who are atheists? EX-mass means take Christ out of it. I don't celebrate " Xmas" I put Christ back into the Mass. Just like every reformer tried to do was bring the RCC back to Christ alone for salvation. I will give a look at Scott Johnson hold on ...... OK did as I thought he had a conspiracy theory attack on Christmas using garbage I would never expose my children to demons & devils riding goats. WOW, I found that in the Biblical account in Matthews chapter 2. IF you look for the devil and want him to be everywhere he can be there for you. BUT if you proclaim Christ as the Church has historically you will find HIM too. Just another Youtube buffoon.
but will you read the pdf ?

the trouble with the rcc is that they had centuries of roman empire thinking and pagan worship to overcome. for and despite all its faults and bureacucracy, the gospel has been spread anyway.

so its good news on december 25 for most everyone who gets the day off, but even if you choose to work you are thinking of others...its like a day when the saints have their reward.

the only issue you have is with the gospel account which the church has quoted year after year found in Matthew and Luke chapter 2.

Spurgeon was also anti-catholic, that being said every Protestant and reformer celebrated the birth of Christ. If one is going to use a church father of 250 AD -350AD and will not address the Matthew chapter 2 context is absurd. the idea that the church is honoring a pagan day that is promoted by " Christians " who interject it into this day when the historical context of the church has been honoring the Advent season in orthodox Christianity. Only atheist, a legalist, and those who had terrible experiences in their own life want to rain on everyone else time.
Matthew and Luke 2 has nothing to do with the christmas celebrations and the apostles and earliest Christians never celebrated the same.It is also now common knowledge that Christ was not born at this time.It is presumptuous to seek to honour God in a way he,not only, did not request but also detests.Your statement about, "every Protestant and reformer celebrated the birth of Christ", is patently false based on the information presented in the post you are responding to..

Seems to me salvation is taking what was evil and turning it into something good.
Christians have taken what was once a pagan holiday and turned it into a celebration of the one that brings salvation.
If God adopted the mindset holiday haters take there would be no salvation. He would simply say what was once evil can never be made good and leave humanity to rot in its own sins.
Funny how so many that preach a belief based in change turn around and so vehemently argue against it. What a slap in the face of the one they claim to worship.

Driving a car is not biblical. We do plenty of things that are not in the bible. Focus on the heart. The efforts to vilify Christmas is wasted energy that edifies no one.

You are not going to be able to find a scripture that says it is a sin to celebrate Christmas tradition with your family.

That conversation is always boring.

I was really expecting some historical information about when celebration of Christmas on Dec 25. This time of year many will start posting about how the Catholic church started it to combat pagan feasts and most of it is not accurate. I don't think there is an actual decree or something like that. It seems to have evolved but I have not really looked that hard into it. I never cared that much but I feel the need to know facts just to help those that are embarrassing themselves with their "authoritative statements of fact" that are not even real historical data. They just pass on stuff as though it were history and it is a collection of assumptions.
I was thinking instead of the same old tired posts about the pagan roots of Christmas that are going to go on here no matter what,
I would get the ball rolling looking for the actual historical written records in extant on the first references in church history.
I’m new here..so I’m gonna just jump in here and if its already been discussed in the next 16 pages..forgive me.

When you said that we wouldn’t find a scripture that says its a sin to celebrate christmas..I thought of this scripture...
Colossians‬ ‭2:8‬ ‭
See to it that no one takes you captive through philosophy and empty deception, according to the tradition of men, according to the elementary principles of the world, rather than according to Christ.
‭‭
Isn‘t christmas a tradition of man? I have never read in the scriptures where the disciples cut down trees, decorated them, put presents under them to celebrate the birth of Jesus. In fact..they never did have ‘birthday parties’ for Him. That wasn’t the point of His birth. In fact the Bible doesn’t even tell us the date of His birth..and I would think that’s because Jesus has always existed...before Abraham I Am. In fact He’s living and sitting at the right hand of the Father..why do we insist on celebrating His birth when its all about His death on the cross? Without the shedding of blood there is no forgiveness.

Have you also thought of what the phrase merry christmas means? Merry Christ mass. Do Christians, actual Christians celebrate mass? Catholicism isn’t Christianity....should we celebrate a holiday invented by a false religion and call it good?
God tells us..

Galatians‬ ‭5:9‬ ‭
A little leaven leavens the whole lump of dough.
‭‭
Just a few of my thoughts about christmas and why its not Christian and I would say we shouldn’t be celebrating it..in fact I feel so strongly about it...I haven’t celebrated it for over 10 years.

My view on it is that if you can use it to love people, then love people.

I find no redeeming value in trying to make anyone think it is wrong.

I find lots of opportunities to talk about Jesus and opportunities for showing love and strengthening relationships with family and friends so I think that is going to have me coming out on the God pleasing end of things.

Wasn’t God about teaching the right ways to His chosen people, the Jews? He was very specific.

I realize that we Christians have some latitude because of grace..however..to be saved is very specific as well. One must believe that Jesus is God, that He died for our sins and He rose and sits at the right hand of the Father. If you don’t get all that right then are you saved?

I think truth matters. We worship in Spirit and in truth. If you talk about christmas as a Christian holiday and it’s really not..that doesn’t seem like a good start of you ask me.

its a test, if you fail, you dont get your christian papers.

People are always posting church exam questions on here. I cant tell them the answer, as I dont write the questions, but its open book.
