Today's sermon was on the topic of endurance. We were reminded that the key to overcomming hardships is to have faith.

If you dont have faith you will give up because all you do is focuss on the problem. But when you have faith, it means that you dont live by what you see but you keep your eyes on the victory thats ahead. And when you focus on the victory and not the hardships, you will have joy.

Did you attend Sunday service or was it on Saturday? What was the sermon about at your church? . . .
It was a difficult day, but I got there yesterday (Saturday) in time for the teaching then left immediately afterward, coming home, going back to bed. However, I like the idea of this area on CC. (Having just come back to Christian Chat after a long absence, this is the first time I saw it.)

The teaching was from Numbers 16, 1 Samuel 11, and Jude, but I heard nothing. Fortunately, I have the handout and will be able to hear it on the Internet when they post it this week. According to the handout, it was about the revelation of G_D -- His perspective of what is righteous and what is not . . . His holiness and the way He has revealed Himself.

simplicity - How our yes ought to be yes and our no ought to be no

that we are not in control of our lives, if we think we are, we just make things more complicated....God is in control and directs our paths

We shouldn't wait for a convenient time inorder to do whats right. We should do whats right at all times, and not make excuses as to why we are not able to be obedient.

Luke 14:16 “A certain man was preparing a great banquet and invited many guests. 17 At the time of the banquet he sent his servant to tell those who had been invited, ‘Come, for everything is now ready.’
18 “But they all alike began to make excuses. The first said, ‘I have just bought a field, and I must go and see it. Please excuse me.’
19 “Another said, ‘I have just bought five yoke of oxen, and I’m on my way to try them out. Please excuse me.’
20 “Still another said, ‘I just got married, so I can’t come.’

Last Sunday's online sermon, in my church, was about John 1:47.

When Jesus saw Nathanael approaching, he said of him, “Here truly is an Israelite in whom there is no deceit.”

Jesus didn't say "in him there is no sin"; he said "in him there is no deceit", or hypocrisy.

Many Christians strive for perfection in what is seen by others. Preachers impress the audiences with flowery speeches; members of the music ministry play their instruments with near perfection; many members are proud of their level of attendance and frown on those who are not very assiduous, while others are concerned about clothing, hair styles, etc.

It is impossible to be totally sinless, but we can be sincere. Of course all of us must seek holiness, but before that we must be sincere.

The sermon this morning was about Haggai, chapter 1. In our church preachers are supposed to be always Spirit-led, they don't prepare their sermons and nobody knows beforehand who is going to preach. Among three preachers present today, only our elder felt Spirit-led to deliver a sermon.

The elder read that portion of Scripture, gave us the historical background and exhorted the church:

"Some people in here are too much concerned about their own earthly lives. They do a terrific job at their workplaces with a view to reaping earthly benefits; they take good care of their health, of their homes, their car, their spouses, kids, pets, etc., but their spiritual lives are decaying.

My brother – or sister -- you have no time for Bible reading, no time for prayer and you come over here just to warm the benches! Remember when the Lord delivered you from Egypt (from the world)? Remember your long and fervent prayers at the feet of the Lord? God's promises for us are much greater that those He made to His people in the days of Moses. There's is absolutely no compare between the "rewards" of this deceitful world and the true rewards of the world to come.

Stop paneling your earthly homes;! It's time for rebuilding the Temple, and God's temple now is the Church. Play the part you've been assigned by God, according to your gift and above all pursue sanctification, without which no one will see the Lord".

The elder went into details on how to lead a holy life in a sinful world like ours. It was a great service! Praise God!
Great thread - our pastor spoke on 1st Peter - something something. I like to think that all the sermons I've heard in my life guide me subliminally. Sometimes I could tell you exactly what was preached for weeks afterwards, sometimes, it's gone by Monday.

But our brother here mentioned something here about preachers preparing to speak - Spirit-led at the moment or weeks of preparation in advance. Now, with my Pentecostal background, I definitely have much respect for preachers who use the moment to guide their words - that's all they did in the Church of God. I believe in that and know that God can use pastors in that way.

However, in my later life in the conversion to Baptist, I have grown a similar appreciation for our ministers who spend a great deal of time working over the message, and most importantly, they have time to PRAY over the message, that God will help them in organization and message to say exactly what God wants them to say. They probably spend just as much time praying over the message as they do in preparation.

I do that myself, even when praying in public: before it's my turn to pray, I ask God to help me focus on what he'd have me to focus on and help me in my organization and ability to speak clearly and coherently on the prayer needs of the day.

Not to get off of the subject, but yes, great thread!

Most brothers and sisters in my denomination prefer an offhand sermon, but I myself don't think prepared sermons are not from God.

An offhand sermon may come from a carnal preacher, just as a prepared sermon may come from a sincere and faithful servant of God.

We have been reading through 1 John. We are into chapter 5 now :)

I wanted to share this Mother's Day message I received from my church with a small bouquet of flowers :D

Today, we celebrate you! Whether you are a mother of your own children; have lost children (physically or spiritually); desire to have children and cannot; have acted faithfully as mother, or unfaithfully; whether you think of motherhood as something good, or because of past hurt, only think of it with pain; whether you are a spiritual mother mother towards others; or know the great blessing of being spiritually cared for by others. Today we want to express our gratitude to God for you. And we want to reminfd you that, because of Jesus Christ, you are loved. You are seen. You are forgiven. You are delighted in. And you have been created for good works.

You might be wondering - if you don't feel like a mother - why we sent this bouquet to you. It's because God has created you uniquely as a woman with incredible gifs to love and nurture others.

Today we can sometimes neglect to honor spiritual mothering in favor of only physical mothering. But the Bible doesn't. The Bible celebrates the role of both physical and spiritual mothering - whether Paul, in his encouragement for older women to disciple younger women in Titus 2:3-5; or Proverbs where Mothers are honored for their essential teaching role (though the surrounding culture did not recognize the mother's role in training her sons (Proverbs 1:8); or the way that Paul, who was an apostle of Jesus (!), gives honor to the role of mothers by describing his own ministry as "mothering":

On the contrary, we were gentle among you, like a nursing mother caring for her children. We cared so deeply that we were delighted to share with you not only the gospel of God, but our own lives as well. That is how beloved you have become to us.
1 Thessalonians 2:7-8

As a woman, you are a blessing in Jesus' church, and you are called to something gloriously good. You have something unique to offer in the lives of those around you as you "give of your own selves" in order to nurture others to know, love, and obey God.

So, if you desire to make a difference in this world that will have a multi-generational (read: eternal) impact, there's nothing more meaningful than for you to take up your role as a mother (spiritual and otherwise) in your family, in your church, and in your community.

Today, we celebrate you. Happy Mothers Day.

Why worry when you can pray? We allow people and circumstances to have power over our lives and that should not be the case. We must not put our circumstances above God.

Dont worry about things you can do nothing about. What we have control on is our minds, and we must not allow our circumstances to destroy our peace.

Stop paralyzing yourself with "what ifs" thoughts. Instead you should say "even if". Even if the worst comes to the worst we will still hold on to Jesus.

Habakkuk 3:17-19
17 Though the fig tree does not bud
and there are no grapes on the vines,
though the olive crop fails
and the fields produce no food,
though there are no sheep in the pen
and no cattle in the stalls,
18 yet I will rejoice in the Lord,
I will be joyful in God my Savior.
19 The Sovereign Lord is my strength;
He makes my feet like the feet of a deer,
He enables me to tread on the heights.
For the director of music. On my stringed instruments.

Daniel 3:16-18
16 Shadrach, Meshach and Abednego replied to him, “King Nebuchadnezzar, we do not need to defend ourselves before you in this matter. 17 If we are thrown into the blazing furnace, the God we serve is able to deliver us from it, and he will deliver us from Your Majesty’s hand. 18 But even if he does not, we want you to know, Your Majesty, that we will not serve your gods or worship the image of gold you have set up.”

Online sermon in my denomination this morning

Jonah Flees From the Lord

1 The word of the Lord came to Jonah son of Amittai: 2 “Go to the great city of Nineveh and preach against it, because its wickedness has come up before me.”

3 But Jonah ran away from the Lord and headed for Tarshish. He went down to Joppa, where he found a ship bound for that port. After paying the fare, he went aboard and sailed for Tarshish to flee from the Lord.

4 Then the Lord sent a great wind on the sea, and such a violent storm arose that the ship threatened to break up. 5 All the sailors were afraid and each cried out to his own god. And they threw the cargo into the sea to lighten the ship.
......................................................................................................................................................................................................................................................................................

In the same way that those sailors threw all the cargo overboard, in order to preserve their lives, we must get rid of everything that distract us from undivided devotion to the Lord.

Today we were in Malachi 3:6-15. The emphasis was on Tithing in the OT vs how it is relevant to us as Christians today. Is the 10% tithe jewish law still relevant to modern Christianity And what is Allowable and appropriate Testing of the Lord per scripture on verse10 and how that relates to us today.
